If you can’t stomach the military, go into aircraft maintenance. There are surprisingly short, cheap training programs that can get to a cozy union job practically anywhere you want. Only thing is you’ll have to work overnights and shitty schedules for the first 5-10 years but it gets better with more seniority, relatively recession proof, no HR trannies, etc etc
