Got a stock suggestion for you smiggers. It's an smg classic: SIGA Technologies. SIGA is trading around $3, down from $9 this time last year. SIGA spiked during the monkypox outbreaks because their smallpox antiviral TPOXX was thought to be effective for monkypox. Turns out it isn't. But SIGA's primary source of revenue are BARDA contracts. TPOXX is stockpiled by the US Government for the Strategic National Stockpile for smallpox defense. SIGA's existing BARDA contract (couple hundred million $, several tranches over several years) expired and a new BARDA contract is supposed to materialize in one of the coming quarters. As I understand it, the contract was expected already but there are bureaucratic holdups, position vacancies, etc. and the timeline is unclear. In any case, SIGA will go up big when the next BARDA contract is issued. The company has also paid special dividends the last couple years, the last one was $0.60/share which at $3 amounts to bout a 20% annual divvy. Of course it's possible they stop issuing special dividends if the BARDA contract remains in limbo, and also possible a BARDA contract never materializes.
