Most countries will probably use the opportunity to create a new fully digital currency, since it grants them an unprecedented level of control. They can freeze funds at will and even add expiration dates to currency in order to "encourage" spending. Instead of fully gold-backed it’ll likely be backed by a basket of goods, like oil reserves, rare earth mineral reserves, gold and possibly even a small percentage of bitcoin. BRICS floated this idea for their new potential Euro-like currency and it’s likely why Chinas central bank has been on a massive gold-buying spree for the past few years

They'll rug the current fiat currencies and create new ones, starting the game over. No big deal.
