I want to get into TCG because opening packs is fun. But I also want it to not be a waste of money. Is there a strategy or are people just blind opening packs hoping for rare cards? Or do I buy each card individually and build a set which I then sell? I don't get how people can make money on it

I near mint vintage pokemon cards and honestly looking for deals is more fun than gambling on packs. You’ll kind of miss the whole gambling aspect when it comes to collect if you stop opening cards but the feeling of instantly 2x your money and having a cool piece of art mogs pack opening in my opinion

opening packs is pretty much losing money unless you can get early on at retail price (like 30th celebrations)

but obvs fun so upto you, as the other anon said better to chase singles at card shows, trade your sealed packs for the singles you want instead

if you want the fun aspect go for a slab gacha site (like collectorcrypt) its way better EV than ripping packs
