I used to work with a wagie that only made slightly more than me, but he had 4 kids, 2 of which he was paying child support on with 50/50 custody, 1 he had full custody and the other he was trying to adopt with full custody (he's now divorcing his with his 2nd wife at 31 years old and fighting for 50/50 custody with his 2 later kids).

He also would go on cruises, Vegas, or Disney trips 2 - 3 times a year. He also went through multiple mid-life crises, and would have a new car every year. He would drive a Dodge Charger with a Hemi, then a $70k Ford SUV, now he owns a motorcycle too. He bought a $500 pistol, but hasn't shot it once in 8 years.

He was always putting everything on his credit card too.

I'd rather work an extra year or two and drive cool cars and afford to live in my very large house

I have a Land Cruiser 100 series, love it. But its not my daily driver, its for long road trips and getting up forest service roads. I dont do any overlanding with it though.
