if you dont have someone guiding you it is insanely retarded
>>
Its extremely retarded, high risk, low reward. Wow your restaurant didnt go under in 6 months, hope you're okay with 60k a year for 80 hour weeks.
>>
>>62760068
Starting a restaurant is retarded
Starting a chain of restaurants is genius
>>
>>62760068
Its retard to go straight to a restaurant without first trying a catering business from home, then see if it can scale up to a food truck, then scale it up to a restaurant once you know for sure the market for your food is there.
>>
it's retarded unless you're in an area with reasonable rents and fast permitting

I know this thai dude who put perhaps 80 hours a week into it for 20 years. He did it with skills because especially his shrimp was literally something special and all his dishes were way above standard take-away and he charged a bit extra for it as well when he was settled with enough returning customers. Another dude had been just as good before him and people developed taste for authentic thai food but then moved away so the new guy filled out a demand very fast.
The business is extremely dependent on so many factors but he's actually one of the few cases where people with taste actually chose him after a high quality check.
Two thai women-owned restaurants tried to copy him and have failed so miserably they just employ unskilled labor and I never get anything worth anything from them they're possibly simply not aware of the skill required to make tasty thai food since they started.

So now 20 years after he's even employing less skilled labor and I stopped coming because the quality has fallen drastically it's so evident how much difference some dishes taste It's literally not worth it unless people know their shit.
Only restaurant worth the money now is the authentic Italian in my town now. I make way better food than most restaurants hands down.

food costs, rent, labor all up dramatically so restaurants are getting worse to stay alive
>>
>>62760068
now is not the time.
so many places are closing. there are some nutjobs who doordash every day but Im sure that most people are bowing out right now because its just too expensive.
mc donalds dogshit is as expensive as decent restaurants used to be. meanwhile regular restaurants can barely jack up their prices because everybody would just stop showing up. meanwhile costs of everything is going up rapidly.
I cant imagine how tiny the margins must be right now.

The majority of new independent restaurants fail. If you are betting on something and there is a 50/50 chance you would lose your life savings in the bet would you take that bet? And what if winning that bet would only win you back your money and maybe 10% more? Because that's what a successful restaurant is for the investor. You leverage all of your money into a restaurant that requires a hell of a lot of work and you have to rely on employees who may or may not steal from you or just not give a damn and fuck everything up. And if it's successful you might clear 10% profit. So after maybe 5 or 10 years your investment will be paid off and you can make whatever that 10% is after paying for all the expenses and employees. It's just a shitload of work for very little return. You can take the same money you would put into a restaurant and just put it in the s&p 500 and make more off of that. The best case scenario is if you create a very popular restaurant and you get bought out by a large corporation. That's probably rarer than hitting it big as a garage band and getting signed by a major record label.

For profit? Enormously retarded.

As a pet project during your early retirement? Pretty comfy.

wow another place to get microwaved sloppa!?!?!
>>
>>62760068
It's retarded as fuck and you see it in movies and shit but it's not worth it plus you will probably fail statistically. The best thing to do is start a liquor store if you don't live near high crime and if you do live near high crime I think you can lock shit down behind cases or something.

There's something low class about food and businesses surrounding it, even celebrity chefs like gordon ramsay and salt bae are treated as subhuman celebs among proper human celebs
I eat organic and eat to be healthy and fit, i have male model body without ever going to the gym, if i want pleasure i have sex instead of slops

A real estate scheme, actually.
>Buy shithole property
>do minimal renno
>hire out of work chef with wierd ideas
>push weird Idea on socials
>people think wierd idea is "trendy"
>Idea gets business
>business gets momentum in first 2-4 months
>expand to new shithole location
>bring chef with
>Original location looses "flare" factor but still needs to turn a profit/be competitive with new location
Rinse and Repeat for profit. I have worked for many a chefs, but the ones that last are buddies with the Landlord and time it out so they will be the first one in, then the first out to the new location(s).

the problem with that is then people can't afford it. at least in my city the business model for restaurants isn't good. rent is 150/sq.ft in a decent area, then there is the obvious food + labor costs going up, and if it's a new place permits, grease traps, buildout costs all make it where to make money the food needs to be so expensive that it stops being a regular place for people and more of a special occasion, and at some point people get miffed at paying 50 dollars for chicken. we're also a fairly seasonal city (miami beach) so that summer lull is a killer.

just take out ur loan max for establish a company it works and people like wage scam just treat urself good and buy any government ponzi like 401k to stfu parental care u need hooker gold whisky cigar and CBD muh freedom fuck schools and degrees
>>
The traditional restaurant is retarded. No one wants to pay 60 dollars for 10 oz steak. This taco place in my next town over is doing good but that's because their business plan revolves food people like and quantity so customers think they're getting a deal and come in.

By having too much money from daddy and complaining to your employees about why you're not making trillions, why do you think a bunch of brainless boomers have houses or restaurants?

Extremely retarded. Restaurants fail more than any other kind of business.

Pretty accurate post. Restaurants are tons of work, and finding good help is probably the toughest part. Then you got liabilities, some dipshit spilled their soup on themselves and now you're getting sued, or you got shut down and fined for health code violations, you got the help stealing from you... you really have to love it and pour your entire soul into it....

it's much like investing. you have to ID a trend, then figure out if you're early or in the middle of the trend, then position in a good area. what's weird is that there's an element of luck. i live in a mostly mexican area but there's a viet pho place that's doing well. they are expanding to a 2nd location. how? i don't know. the one i go to is in a very shitty plaza with tight parking. the food is mediocre, too. a jap fast sushi place opened next to it and folded within a year.

lots of luck and cost-cutting i guess.

drive-thru/walk up coffee drink and froyo place

That’s the biggest problem with food industry. It is so easy to go out of business and lose your clients if you can’t keep up quality of what clients expect

I use to go to a place known for massive portions, like 95% of people would not finish their plate. This restaurant felt like they could make more money if they downed the size of their dishes and that nobody would care because most don’t finish anyways. 6 months later they went out of business.

The most important rule is to be consistent, so long as customer expectations are met then you are good, as soon as they are not met you broke the trust of the customer and they stop coming
