That's called investing in your business. There is a difference between buying something that will be used to generate revenue and buying an overpriced toy that does nothing but financially drain you.
>>
>>62795686
Not everything in life is about making money, anyone with half a brain knows they won't make money by buying a car, but some people really want to enjoy a nice car, and if they can afford to finance it, it's their choice. I personally wouldn't do it, because i don't think it's worth the money, but to me it's like paying for a holiday, everyone knows it won't generate revenue, quite the contrary, but not everything in life is about generating revenue, if you really want to spend a lot of money on a huge trip, if that's your thing, go ahead.
>>

>buy a used car
>it also depreciates even more as you drive it
>no warranty, have to pay for all repairs out of pocket
>engine blows up or tranny grenades itself and now you cant get to work and your car requires thousands in repairs that you now owe out of pocket for.

Why are poor people so stupid?

Women are living my debtmaxxing dream. I wish I didn't care about my credit score and could max out credit cards and leave debt collectors holding the bag. There's a girl out there right now maxing out a credit card on a pair of fake tits and she will never pay for it. Honestly good for her. She'll find a sucker to bankroll her and she'll never need to pass a credit check.

It’s not horrible if you can get a decent rate. I bought my Corolla pre-Covid for well below MSRP and had a 3.5% loan or something like that. It’s been paid off for years and I expect to have it for many more years to come. I would have had to wipe out my emergency fund and/or my meager etf holdings at the time. It’s only retarded if you get a 20% loan on an entry level luxury crossover that you have no business driving as an average wagie and/or you don’t keep your cars for a long time and you just keep taking a beating. I’ll keep my Corolla until it’s unsafe to drive.

A vehicle is needed for transportation to a job, especially in the US. It's a business investment that actually makes money. AI makes dumb cat pictures and spams script kiddy hacks all over the place, it's not a business it's a novelty.
>>
>>62795716
It takes a special kind of retard to sell thousands of hours of future labor in exchange for a nice car. Is the experience of driving around in your shiny toy worth all of the bullshit you will have to endure to pay for it?

you cant even enjoy cars in this country

I didn't say it's stupid to buy a car. It's stupid to waste your money on the most expensive kind of car you can buy, a new car. The more you spend, the more you lose.

The main companies spending money on data centers are Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Meta. Notice that these companies already have massive cloud infrastructure, and they need more as more people use their services. Building data centers is just standard business practice for them.

CoreWeave is essentially just an AI data center builder, which shows that the pure-play AI space is a bubble. Meanwhile, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Meta have massive cash flows to support their operations, even if AI fails to deliver profits.

Everyone does this so the sticker prices go up to whatever people can finance. You cant even import from countries where people arent retarded.
>>
>>62795686
A car, if you buy it outright and not lease it, etc., is still an asset. A depreciating asset, true, but an asset nonetheless. It counts towards your net worth and it's something you can liquidate at any time if you need some extra cash.

However, a car is not an INVESTMENT. You will almost certainly never make a profit by buying a car and selling it later at a higher price: it's an appliance, something you buy for its inherent practical utility.

The real reason why financing a car is a bad idea boils down to interest rates. It's not unusual to see a 9-10% APR, which is well beyond what you can realistically recoup from investments in the long run. However, if you are lucky and you can get a car loan with a reasonably low rate, it's not that bad.
>>
>>62795686
You must be extremely poor if you have to think about the financial impact of buying a new car
>>
>>62796180
And you'd have to be even poorer not to think about. I paid cash for my cars (I own multiple) because the amount I paid for them was insignificant. If you don't have the cash for a new car, then going into debt to buy one is a terrible financial decision. You're committing money you haven't even yet earned to paying down a loan for something worth less than the loan. You may as well take out a loan to buy a $20,000 cheeseburger.

>mmm that cheeseburger looks so delicious and I want to eat it. I can't afford it now so let me take money I will make over the next five years and instead of saving it or investing it I will use it to pay off the loan I got for the cheeseburger I ate years prior and became a worthless pile of shit after I ate it.

You could just buy a $10 cheeseburger that you can afford, but you throw away money you don't even have yet to buy one you can't afford. It's retarded.

Buy shit you can afford. Debt should only ever be used as leverage to increase your exposure to an appreciating asset.
>>
I financed a car even though I can pay it off. They give a discount on financing it. I had a 840 credit score and got it at 3.9. I wonder if it's even worth paying off in the first month now. Good savings account promo yields are breaking even after taxes at 3.9%. And apparently Trump's big beautiful bill let's you deduct off car interest now. Yes, a new car has made life much more enjoyable than the beater I was driving
>>
>>62795722
I think this is how it is with newer cars anyway as in cars newer than about 2012 or so. I drive a 2012 Chevy truck and my dad has a 2021 and his has had all sorts of problems. So far I just had new shocks and brakes on mine. If older cars ever became too expensive because everyone realizes this I'll probably just lease from now on.

>buy new
>finance it because lmao inflation rates
>the best warranty and service in case anything happens for basically the next seven years
It's basically like a lease at that point. These days if you buy new and it needs to go in the shop for any reason they give you a free rental car. You're paying for 100% access over time to A car, probably yours, but definitely A car during the period of the warranty, and after that you have the car until it breaks in like 20 more years.

when my current 2007 honda fit shits the bed for real, I'm buying new and then taking it to a chop shop to replace all the computer bullshit and disable the cell network connection.

>>
>>62797684
>A car isn't an investment

>>
>>62797684
That's the same level of retarded as saying it's okay to lose a shit ton of money because you can just claim it as a tax write off.

Having negative money is literally worse than setting your money on fire. It's the same as setting the money you currently have on fire then promising to set money you make over the next several years on fire as well. It's one of the dumbest financial decisions you can make. Gambling your life savings away at a casino is literally a smarter financial decision than taking out a high interest loan on a depreciating asset.
>>
>>62797679
>I'm amazed so many people on 4chinz keep parroting it.
It's just one moron posting hundreds of times per day.

>>62795686
This argument is financially stupid. I bought a new car at $50k with 1% financing. If I had bought a $30k used car, I would have either had to pay in cash (wasted opportunity cost) or used 9% financing. At that rate, I would've ended up spending the same amount of money, but while owning a shittier car.
>>
>>62795686
you can buy a car with 100k miles for 7 grand but pray that it was well maintained or you're going to deal with an expensive maintenance bill (and no car for 2 weeks while still paying for the insurance on it)

some people buy new to not deal with issues.
>>
>>62799232
You're retarded if you think paying $30k in cash is the same opportunity cost as paying $50k for a new car.

If you can get a good rate, maybe it's not so bad? I'm sitting on an 845 credit score, and make a pretty good income. When my car goes, maybe I'll buy new this time?
>>
>>62799320
You're retarded if you think 1% financing is the same as 9% financing.
>>
>>62799342

>>62799399

>>
There's not many entry-level "1st car" shitboxes these days and Cash4Clunkers really fucked us all on used cars.

>>62795815
This would be based advice but Toyota's retain their value, so you have to really babysit listings to find a deal that's not still a lot of money on a higher mileage car.

And since most people would still need to finance, you're getting a worse APR because you're buying used. You really gotta weigh dealer incentives and apr on new vs what you're getting in used. There's Sienna's that are 10 years old, nearing or over 100k miles and still $26,00. Newer ones with 30k+ miles still at $35k+. I'm driving a Subaru Outback with 170,000 miles and just babying it along.
>>
>>62799399
If you can get a rate under 7%, then paying in cash is the worst option possible. You would end up paying less than the cost of the car by financing it and investing the lump sum into a 7%-yielding index fund immediately.
>>
>>62799438
But you're not guaranteed to get 7% returns in an index fund. But you are guaranteed to be in debt when you finance.
>>
>>62799485
>But you're not guaranteed to get 7% returns in an index fund.
You're right, I averaged at 14% over the last few years. I basically got a $50k car for $40k and I didn't even finish paying it off.
>But you are guaranteed to be in debt when you finance.
If you buy with cash, you are guaranteed to make nothing. But if you invest it immediately, you have a very high probability of making money. And the odds only become greater as the rate approaches 0%.
