>>62813285I'm not going to bother reading it, "intents" are broadly used across crypto. it's just a shorthand for optimistic execution
ICP's founder calling out NEAR for "fake decentralization" is funny, because ICP itself is a perfect example of the common "DeCenTraLiZeD!" delusion, which is way too commonplace in the cryptocurrency space: from centralized Ethereum competitors, to centralized universal L2s on Ethereum, and even "decentralized social" projects like Farcaster, which were always centralized. This is an attack on real decentralization.Look at ICP. ICP says you own your data. Running a node takes a dual-EPYC server with 512GB RAM and 32TB of NVMe in a data center, plus a DAO vote with proof of identity. I'd laugh but it's just sad at this point. That same DAO can vote to remove content. The L2s aren't much better. Most still run a single sequencer that can refuse your transaction, and L2beat says some of their "escape hatches" can't actually force anything in. Farcaster just swapped out its only two outside validators. The point is, THE TEST IS SIMPLE: can a normal person run a node on their laptop, and can anyone vote your posts away? If the answers are no and yes, it's not decentralized. Bitcoin and Ethereum pass, because their chains are small enough for most people to run.Onchain social has the same problem: if normal people can't run a node, a few approved operators own the network. The problem is all content gets stored in a blockchain, which is frankly absurd. It can't scale: every node has to store every post, so the more people use it, the bigger the node gets, and the fewer people can run one. That's why Bitsocial is pure P2P: a node runs on a Raspberry Pi and only stores the communities it follows. The elephant in the room is: why are projects like ICP and Farcaster allowed to market themselves as "decentralized" or even "sufficiently decentralized" in the first place, when they really are not? It's VERY misleading. There are billions of dollars of people's life savings in it.This is one of the major reasons why crypto sucks. Make crypto cypherpunk again.
>>62813285BOOOOOOOOOOOM
>>62813339Good point. Being able to vote to take down something is problematic. A site like 4chan would get voted to be removed most likely….
>>62813285icey piss
>>62813287Magnets? How do they work?
>>62813339Faggot, true decentralization in this age is a pipe dream. ICP is the best compromise of decentralization vs a need to control the specifications of people who act as nodes/subnets.If you fucking unironically believe Bitcoin and ETH, both premined to Oblivion, are decentralized, you are wrong.
>>62813366Thats not even true in the slightest. Literal bootleg videogames with copyright are in canisters and numerous votes were done to take it down and they still are up today
