Can anyone explain to me why a money market mutual fund is a very bad investment? People on /co/ always laugh at as for "playing the stock market" Yet for some apparent reason, everyone on this board thinks that a bank is the worst place to put your money.

Check the m2 chart the real measure of inflation is like 7% a year which means every 10 years you're twice as poor, so if your store of wealth isn't clearing at least 7%, really 12%, you're getting poorer each year. So invest in shit like QQQ, bitcoin, gold, most these things do at least 12% a year, the extra 5% explained because things get around 5% cheaper to produce each year due to production getting more streamlined, automated, and efficient. Basically if you're in cash or cash equivilants you're getting fucked by inflation.

That said, it's not a risk free ride, higher returns but higher volatility, but if you have a large enough time horizon, 4-10 years, ideally forever, the difference in your wealth is insane. If you s&p'd for the last 12 years you 5x'd your wealth vs. maybe 1.5x in safe things like CDs

"Investment" assumes the aim is to make money. And you will nominally, but you won't earn any value because lmao if you think inflation is under 4% because of the CPI claim

>7% inflation
I don't know what shithole you come from, but in civilized countries the average inflation is about 3-4%.

Measures of Inflation:
Big Mac Prices: Real inflation is 4.2%/year
Historical Asset Prices (rent, beef, gas): Real inflation is 4-6%/year.

M2 isnt as accurate because population growth eats up its importance.
Most of taxes are paying for pensions and healthcare for people aged 60-90.

Most of taxes is for Somalis to run Quality Learing Centers though.

If you actually believe the official inflation numbers, which are heavily manipulated through hedonic quality adjustsments, then you are dangerously fucking stupid

Bro... just no
Thats not how that works. Those numbers are for minimal requirements like bread and rice. They intentionally keep those down so they can larp low inflation numbers. If you want coffee you have like 15 percent inflation a year. I mean look at the fucking housing market. Wake up.

Agree with the anons saying official inflation numbers are manipulated but also need to point out that cherry picking random asset, commodity or consumer good prices and using them as proof of where inflation is really at is retarded
