>Marathon Fusion, a San Francisco-based fusion start-up has said that it turned mercury into “real, stable gold,” beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10. The San Francisco startup announced the result on social media platform X on October 21.https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/cons-products/fashion-/-cosmetics-/-jewellery/lab-grown-gold-to-crash-prices-san-franciscos-marathon-fusion-just-turned-mercury-into-yellow-metal/articleshow/135137712.cms?from=mdr

>>62817894>magic alchemy>The underlying physics has been demonstrated at CERN. Between 2015 and 2018
>>62817902Marathon Fusion's business model is energy. The gold production is a side bonus from turning a specific and rare isotope of mercury into radioactive gold that has to settle for decades before it's usable. The media takes it and runs with it because the fund managers fucking hate gold with all their guts because there's no yield for them to scoop. And /biz/ loves to parrot them with zero knowledge of the process because that's how /biz/ rolls. Putting money into bullshit they know nothing about.
>>62817879How much does it cost to make one ounce? That should be the new price floor.
>>62817894I'm confused. Isn't turning mercury into gold literally game changing? Like what if they make silver too? Now we'd never run out of industrial metals. So what use case is there now for stacking metals?
>>62818074Answer this >>62818063
>lab grown gold
The process to change isotope mercury 198 to gold 197 via requires a minimum of 8.5 MeV per atom. 1 kg of gold would require the energy input of about 15,000 tons of TNT, or about 1/15 of a Hiroshima nuclear detonation. The gold produced would be radioactive for several decades before becoming inert. This does not include the input energy from securing mercury 198 which is already rare on its own. No idea what the equipment would cost to even perform the endothermic reaction would be, but it's not a very commercially viable sounding process.
In other words, the process is orders of magnitude less efficient than just regularly mining 3,000 tons of the damn stuff annually.

Afrimerica has too export all its gold because no one wants cuck dollars, but it's ok they can just magically create more LMAO
