>30yo>~20k net worth>live with 2 housemates>$200 rent a week>minimal expenses, maybe about $500/week all up>$1k/week income (65k p.a) + some extra work I do on the side sometimes>have an inspection for a 1bdrm apartment this week>$375/week>I would have it to myself>it's very nice>this has basically always been a dream of mine, just a nice place by myself>mum always says I am welcome to move back home if I wantI am really tempted to go for this place because I just want my own nice space for once but with my income that will be almost 40% of my income spent just on rent. I don't have a lot of expenses and imagine I still manage to save 50% of my income (probably not realistic) that is still only saving $30k/year. What the fuck can I do with that? I will be a rentcuck forever unless I make like multiple 10x. I don't really want to move back in with mum even though speaking strictly financially it would probably be the smartest. I could stay where I am at, it's not a bad deal but my room is small and having my own space would be amazing.I'm really stuck on what to do. Stay where I am and save? Move back in with mum and save to buy? Say fuck it and get this place and live it up while I am still young(ish)? What would you anons do? What do you think I should do?
>>62822140Are you looking for a girlfriend? It might seem like an odd question to bring into the conversation, but if you are happy alone or are planning to find someone that does change the decision making process. If you're not looking for a partner then you need to take into account quality of life vs. money saved. Personally I found it was harder to live with roommates after 30; everyone is getting stuck in their ways and nobody wants to put up with anyone elses weird bullsh*t anymore. If you imagine yourself much happier living on your own, then the extra cost might be worth the improvement in your mental/emotional health.Moving back in with your parents I would put below staying put; the only time that would make sense is if you know you're responsible enough to actually save and invest the money. If you aren't saving money by moving back in with your mom, if you're just blowing it on other stuff, then there's no benefit.Lastly, if you are thinking about finding a partner then you SHOULD get your own place. It will make her happy; if wont be the reason she dates you, but it will make dating way easier. And if the relationship actually works out, then she can move-in and you two can 'play house' for a while to see if marriage is a good idea. If you are dating in a shared home then it is more difficult for the couple to sus out what are problems between them or problems from living in a group situation.
>>62822140I'm 29 and have $400k, what have you been doing? Are you not in America?
It’s at the upper range of affordable but it’s doable. I’d do it but apply to few higher paying jobs every week or two
