The propaganda aspect is, to me, the most unhinged of the whole mess, because the Christians were trying to make flowers out to be some horrible Satanic luxury that would detract people from living like God intended, in filth and poverty with nothing but the bare minimum necessities, because people were apparently supposed to spend all of their time either grubbing in the dirt for food or on their knees worshipping Jesus.
