anime making alcohol seem cool and cute won't exactly benefit my physical or mental health
>>4471666Wholesome Satan!I like drugs like coffee and alcohol as an idea (e.g. fuel for wagie slaves), but I'd never in a million years use them myself.
>>4471744why not?
>>4471752The thing that makes me human is my mind, I don't really want to alter or damage it over time with something dangerous. As for coffee, that's more of an unnecessary body high. If you can't wake up in the morning then you should fix your sleep schedule to become healthy and if you're tired in the afternoon then just take a nap. The problems solved by coffee can be solved for 0$ by listening to your body.
>>4471755you could be me 10 years ago. god, I'm old
alcohol is gay
>>4471767Did things get so bad during the past 10 years that you required a drug to cope?
>>4472265well yes, obviously, but that's not really the point. things were always bad.10 years ago, in college, I was still kinda straight-edge though, but also a bit high-strung. copium was already in demand then, but I just lived with the pain instead. didn't even really know about anime back then.I don't really see alcohol as cope now, more as a social enabler and experience. at parties I can get a little bit closer to functioning like a normal human being who's interested in and not terrified of other people when drunk. at home I can get a bit more out of music, have funny thoughts and actually laugh at anime scenes that are meant to be laughed at instead of just passively recognizing the funniness.my grandfather drunk himself to death and my father came close to it a few times, so I'm kinda aware of how bad I could fuck up by getting to cozy with alcohol, I try to treat it more like a few times a month thing, but I notice I'm susceptible to the "soft power" of alcohol also; the diversity and nimbus of alcohol culture just seem more fascinating over time, but then again I'm too poor to really relish in it
>>4472269Huh, we're similar in some ways. I made it to my early 30s straight edge, I watched anime from my preteens until 19-20, when I stopped because I was a serious heckin' grownup all of a sudden (went to the gym, suffered a back injury that sometimes acts up to this day, switched from lifting to boxing, even quit 4chan all throughout Trump's first term because this place felt too loserish...etc). However, I started watching anime again in December 2025 once I realized that I'm just a failed normie. Depression and BPD-like symptoms never went away with working out, my life is that of a sterile zillennial "mentalcel". As a result, my ancient MAL account has such a huge gap! It's full of early 2000s shows and it just stops abruptly in 2014 with No Game No Life. Currently I'm enjoying Bakemonogatari way more than I did as a teen. Holy shit! I should've never stopped being a weeb.
>>4472276>my life is that of a sterile zillennial "mentalcel"yeah that's me. though I'm more of a SzPD enjoyer myselfI only watched the few shounen shows that were on TV in my childhood, yu-gi-oh, digimon, conan and the like, then completely lost interest in my teens and was only very tangentially aware of the more niche aspects with I viewed with the healthy suspicion of a proper young man. well then I went from failed normie to election tourist to weeb and that's seems quite generic if you really think about it>Depression and BPD-like symptoms never went away with working outI never really kept at it for too long, but "just work out bro" being another lie doesn't surprise me, given that everything else is a lie as well
