Where do you buy cute Japanese cutlery and placemats? I only know watashi no heya. I'm okay with using a SS.
>>10766060Depends what do you mean by "cute" (this is spooky fred after all). If you mean generic "kitchy" pink cutlery with wabbits/hell-o-kitty ebay, etsy, craiglist. If you mean victorianesque stuff - flea markets, or producers of cutlery like Grunwerg "Kings Pattern" (picrel) have them in stainless steel. I personally bought mine in TK-Maxx (TJ-Maxx)

Are you into porcelain? Is porcelain as popular in the USA as it is in Europe?
>>10773113it's not very popular, no. The Blue and white stuff isn't very well liked. But maybe you have some patterns to change our minds/
>>10773179Blue and white is just one of decoration styles. Ripped of from Chinese. Red and white is another of older style. Some goths in Europe developed liking of red and white style. Both look very vintage in modern days.
>>10773344Enthusiats of more modernistic minimalism might enjoy plain white sets. This one is by Polish producent Chodzież named "Maria Teresa" and has design of victorinesque/baroque mix of shapes.
Anyone have examples of a room that splits or uses, gothic black stuff and uwu kawaii pink stuff well together?
>>10773347And this picrel is Japanese brand Norikate in more baroque style of decor - meaning mix of gold and colorful painitngs
>>10773351Googling>black and pink room kawaii gothbrings some results, but to be honest I don't know which of these results fit what you are looking for.
>>10773353There is also English Wedgewood with their style of a color + white emboss. I think most common is blue plus white but they also have done green+white, black+white. red+black
>>10773359I even found a set in UwU pink color
>>10773351>>10773355How about picrel?
>>10773355Hmm none of them fit exactly, lemme try explaining better.I like this stuff and half of my clothes fit with this aesthetic:>>10757382But my room is currently like picrel. I wonder how I could have both aesthetics in my apartment? Maybe the best option is have my room be the pink stuff and have the living room be gothic
>>10773363To mix kawaii UwU with teh goffic darkness in one room would require some tone in between to soften contrast between these two. If your room is that crowded like pic you posted it might introduce too much of sensory overload.Let's assume thy by gothic you mean victorian home decor style with black stuff. Historically victorian was a style of very "crowded" rooms - zillions of pictures, crotchet napkins, etc.But how to mix these both in one room - dunno. In one apartment - well indeed idea to leave your room as it is and make living room it's own gothic inclined - seems the best solution ATM. Maybe if you try making living room look somewhat in style of >>10773362 you would be able to later come with some idea how to mix stuff in your room with gothic (or what to get rid off). The quickest solution to introduce into your room some complementary to gothic living room elements is to add them not in black but in lilly/purple etc colors close to palette already existing in your room. I mean like if you have black framing in living room add the same framing in bedroom but in color close to pink. If you have victorian furniture in living room add similar in bedroom but in color close to pink etc.
>>10773367The other idea I have in mind is adding white as intermediate color
>>10773389>>10773367Thanks this is really helpful! And I did mean the victorian gothic stuff that is also cluttered looking. I have a lot of pastels in my current room and i thought about introducing the color palette with black like you said, but I think it will be too much of a headache for a confusing looking end result. I think i will just keep the uWu and the gothic stuff in separate rooms, but i’ll add a little complementary color of white into each room, so it’s a little cohesive as a whole, apartment wise. White is definitely a good intermediate color for that. I wish i had one cohesive aesthetic because my place would look really cool, but i think it can be cute to have different looks in different rooms>>10773362Aw this is cute but this kind of thing won’t go with any of my clothes lol. My closet is half uwu pastel anime and half gothic victorian and sometimes two things should not meet
>>10773403You are welcome. Here is pinterest I found with pictures that might be of your interest regarding color pallets or different elements that blend black and pinkish and other popular UwU tones. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/76983474853192203/
Does anyone have any photos of character shrines? I just bought a bunch of stuff for my husbando and need a bit of inspo
>>10773796you'd be better off asking the itabag folks for inspo
>>10773403If you want both, I think you either go for a neutral style backdrop (i.e. keep furniture, walls etc very neutral) and split the room into different areas (white probably works best for this) or make it separate rooms, as you say. It's hard to put it together without it being a clusterfuck.

>>10773113I am, but I'm also a eurofriend. My mom is a collector and restorer, so I grew up seeing all kinds of beautiful vintage and antique porcelain tableware. I'm kind of all over the place with my preferences, because I like both Japanese and European styles. I enjoy drinking tea out of porcelain especially - it preserves and distributes the heat perfectly, and doesn't interfere with the flavor of the leaves when brewing.Picrel is a cheap modern set I got for daily tea drinking recently, since I seem to have gotten clumsier and break my valuables a lot more often.
>>10774933Stop posting
>>10774955Which European country's porcelain you like the most?
>>10774955these are adorable, i've seen many cute teacups and small sets in recycling shops but i still haven't found the perfect design for me
>>10774966I'm going to sound very boring, but probably France and England, if I had to choose. I have seen a lot of beautiful porcelain in person, especially from places like Germany and Czech Republic, so it can be a difficult question to answer. What about you? >>10774970I'm a little ashamed to admit, but this set was actually from Taobao! I wasn't finding anything pretty and decently priced locally, and I love strawberries and rice grain porcelain, so I couldn't resist. I can share the link, if you'd like.
>>10774972I grew up mostly with Polish porcelain (mostly modernist designs as during communism more "bourgeois" designs were "passe", later by the end of the 80s there been some blue on white Zwiebelmuster type), in homes of other people seen also sets from Czechoslovakia, some from western Ukraine like picrel - set for drinking vodka. There were also other types of ceramics populkar like many sets of stoneware, clay sets etc.
>>10774982Picrel is Ukrainian traditional clay ceramics from Hutsul region of Carpathian Mountainshttps://cobblestonefreeway.ca/unique-kosiv-ceramics/
Polish Bolesławiec ceramics in last decade became kinda popular in Korea and Japan AFAIK. This is traditional for that producer style of decor.
Going back to porcelain I'm thinking about getting plain white "Maria Teresa" (picrel and mentioned early in this thread) set by Polish brand Chodzież (one of oldest Polish producers, my fav of Polish producers). As I'm mostly into gothic style so plain white is very universal and do not clashes with gray, white black, silver, brass color palette that I'm mostly into.
>>10774972you should totally share the link since the set is quite cute but i really enjoy hunting for the perfect tea set locally so i will keep doing that lmao
>>10774970Maybe look into Polish Chodzież/Ćmielów? For example this set http://www.porcelana-cmielow.pl/fason_ch_iwona.php they have various decor styles (pictured on the bottom. Picrel is one of possible variationshttp://www.porcelana-cmielow.pl/fason_ch_iwona.php

Got any good tea sets that are Gothic but not floral? I'm sick of flowers on China.
>>10779417There are hundreds of sets that have no floral patterns. There are modernist, art deco, plain neo victorian etc. White, black, black and white stripes, cobalt, black and gold, black and platinum. What exactly are you looking for?Has it to be porcelain or ceramics in general?
>>10780464I honestly dont know what I am looking for only that I have not seen it yet. I tend to prefer black, natch, with red, navy or hunter green. Gold and silver are both nice as far as metallics. Maybe something bridging the gap between gothic and classic looking?Ceramics are welcome. Really hoping I'll be able to find somewhere to move that I'll be able to do decor
>>10788191IMHO place where long term rent (few years) is possible is the most friendly for modifications like painting etc. As rental apartments need painting every few years anyway to keep up with trends and replace furniture (unless in your country it's typically norm to rent apartments unfurnished like it's common for example in Germany).
>>10790033It's common to rent unfurnished here, but you often get things like oven and refrigerator as a part of the apartment. However, both exist, and you can get furnished as well.I'm not even sure if I'm thinking about painting, but even just thinking about furniture and maybe some plants would be a huge improvement. The last place I lived was less than 11 square meters, so I didn't feel like I had the space for anything beyond the necessary.

Does anyone have tips for sewing room decor that is practical but not completely white and sterile looking? It seems like every sewing room on the planet uses the same white IKEA Kallax units, white IKEA peg board, white desk etc. while the only pops of colour are from the fabric stash peeking out from (and probably collecting a lot of dust in) the Kallax units. When I do find something more #aesthetic it’s very obviously staged and not someone’s actual workspace. Or, in some cases, it turns out to be a dollhouse interior…
>>10808971The main thing that I look for with craft room decor to decide if it's just for the 'gram or if they're serious is the size/type of table, task lighting, and whether they have doors or covers on at least part of their fabric stash. I don't know anyone who sews that has a perfectly organised stash like most "craft inspo" shit, so it's nice to be able to hide half finished stuff and random bits of fabric behind doors rather than have mess on display. Threads are easier because they look nice in colour order on a wall, but different sized pieces of fabric look messy fast. Also, if you don't have a huge table or floor space but the room is quite large, then how are you even laying / cutting patterns?
What's the point of NOT keeping craft room decor simple and sterile? The main point of focus shall be the piece one is working on. straight lines make cleaning fast and easy and let avoid clogging of stuff/dirt in weird places. Not to mention possibility of affecting mood during the work which might be plus if you only work in certain aesthetics (still I would go rather for Victorian laboratory vibes minimalism rather than ornamented neogothic arches everywhere) but no so much if you do various styles for commercial purposes.
I am filled with longing and a pessimism that I'll never have such beautiful open spaces and cohesive aesthetics when looking at a lot of these images, but have been trying to redo my own crappy apartment latelyI spent around $80 on these black brick panels from Amazon and used dollarama acrylic paint to give them some texture, with my $60 chaise lounge and a mirror i picked up off the sidewalk for free. Next I'm going to stain the sofa wood a bit darker and change the fabric for a dark navy with a sort of moitie shimmer to it, and black lace trim. The whole place has had such after smoke stained off-white walls for so long, and I've really neglected my living space, it feels really nice to have some change.

really need advice on home decoration right now, I recently bought a house and I really want to decorate it nicely (think goth/dark victorian). I own a wooden dresser I inherited from my grandma, but it's brown, and I'm worried it'll look weird if everything else in the room is in a different color. should I keep everything made of wood in the same color, or is it okay to have furniture in different colors in the same room? or should I paint the dresser?
>>10811172I'd try to match it, but it doesn't have to be exact, just similar. If the dresser isn't dark, stain it. If it is good, real wood it'll be a waste to paint it.
>>10811172IMO painted furniture (whether it’s black or purple or whatever) in gothic/dark Victorian decor tends to look tacky and cheap. I agree with the other anon that staining it would look much better if it’s too light otherwise.
>>10811172Painting all furniture is abomination of a trend that came mainstream just in early '00s (it was also short lived in the very early '90s ut didn't catch too much) due to media that was bombarding normies with made up vision of what goth is (like "Merlin Manson is so goff, bro!"). In the '70s, '80s and '90s "problem" of "furniture being brown" did not exist. It was normal that goths had dark brown furniture. There is literally gorillion of photos from that era with goths having dark brown furniture even in victorian interiors that you need to put some money into to actually bring together. Yes, some were painting them even back then but that was not a common place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZmRqthNUiA
>>10811172Differences in shades of wood are not a problem as long as you keep general palette consistent and colors complement each other. Also remember that brass does not bite and is gothic despite everyone younger than 45 for some strange reason pretend goths never been using brass items in bot jewellery and home decor.
>>10810254the brick looks terrible out of the box, I spent a couple days painting ~50 panels with layers of acrylic to give them a little more depth and take away the plastic shine>>10810655thinking about doing something like this to my ceiling but fucking it up at any point would be a bit of a disaster
>>10811973Get coffer ceiling tiles! it's pretty common in gothic ceilings. The only thing is, if you're renting I don't think there is a peel and stick version.
>>10811984>coffer ceiling tilesI put decorative ceiling tiles made of styrofoam that I painted with latex paint up in my place. I tried using 3M command strips to hold them up but those are crap & the tiles started to fall after a couple months; in the end I had to put a ton of that 3M shit up to make it work so I pretty much said fuck it & just used liquid nails & decided if I ever remove them I'll just repaint the ceiling. In the end it was pretty cheap compared to the real thing & looks nice after painting (paint them before installing & touch up any gaps afterward), I think the brand was called Antique Ceilings on amazon but there are probably other options out there.
>>10811172I'm seconding >>10811173. Staining is best. Something like: >https://www.lowes.com/pd/Minwax-Wood-Finish-True-Black-Oil-Based-Interior-Stain-Actual-Net-Contents-32-fl-oz/1000447121?Cherry & dark browns are good choices too. Only time you should really ever have to paint something is if the wood is in especially bad condition that a little sanding or cleaning won't fix it.
>>10812809>Only time you should really ever have to paint something is if the wood is in especially bad condition that a little sanding or cleaning won't fix it.If you mean deeper stain marks like ring shaped stains that formed under flower pots standing on furniture for years and getting overwatered- even them can be eridicated, not with sanding tho but there are chemical processes you can apply to get most of substances that sunk into surface out.As for older furnnitures with shellack finish you can remove old coating and apply new finish of fresh shellack and reach french polish level making them look brand new.

>>10811218Brass accents got co-opted by millennial apartment decor along with rose gold, rattan and neon signs
>>10816769They started disappearing from goth's wardrobes/apartments earlier than 1st millenials hit 18. Also even these would be insisting that goth is only silver when asked back in the '00s. I shit you not, there are interviews recorded. The process of "getting rid of brass/gold for good" took place more or less in 1995-2000. Reasons are unknown to me tho. Maybe goth just followed mainstream fashion here and there is nothing more to add here. Or maybe it became associated too strongly with "steampunk crowd" that was gaining traction around that time and didn't shed that association fully yet even tho steampunk is pretty much dead fad at this point. To see so called "tradgoth" wear it nowadays is like meet a Big Foot in the wild. As for back in the '80s you can easily find tons of photos in which goths wear brass/bronze items (silvery metals dominate but brassy is still very noticeable) - earrings, chains, belt buckles, bracelets typically. They are seen in like 1/3-1/4 of photos from that time. You can still see brass worn in earliest years of WGT festival. Good luck finding photos (they are veeeer rare) or seeing someone in the club wearing brass nowadays. DESU I'm kinda fed off of seeing silver on black all the time.Posting a nice photo of black room with wood and wicker item's that I find interesting. Good example that you can mix various wood tones and black and introduce brass and green details. Also these lilies are nice touch. Still looks dark yet not that much stereotypical cheap "paint everything black because creativity is not for me and it helps to hide that I suck at mixing different pieces of furniture" we can see a lot online.
bumpetsu
>>10816791Imo, you have to do all of one, or the other, mixing brass and silver accents looks tacky.I just wish that other colors than black had acceptance. Deep greens, purples, blues, grays look lovely.
>>10819199No idea what do you mean. They been around since always. It's mostly youngest millenials and zoomers who suffer from "black only" mentality.
>>10819199As for mixing brass and silver you can mix them flawlessly if you introduce tonal gradient of complementary colors. Other tricks used is separating silver stuff into certain areas of the room. Look pictures in these article https://bobbyberk.com/a-stunning-victorian-home-that-embraces-period-details-and-modern-touches/ here are several silver/gray items like stove or sink faucet. Also mixing silver and gold/brass was nothing unusual in for example baroque period. But I get that you might not be a fan of these type of mix.

As for glassware I think that modern (lead free variant) "Noblesse" serie by Nachtmann is so universal it would fit both Victorian and Art Deco as well as 80's style of interriors. If you are buying anything from Nachtmann 2nd hand make sure you are buying the lead free variant of crystall glass. Nachtmann switched just few years ago to non lead crystal, glass their older sets are lead crystal.
Ah, dried flowers. How could I have forgotten about them.
I wanted some old antique looking furniture for my apartment so I decided to go to a thrift store that was recommended to me as being affordable. I finally find something I don't hate and it's 350 fricking euros. It was broken too.My friend told me I would have better luck going online to my country's version of craigslist.
>>10833784Looks neat. What exactly was broken?Hmm Douwe Egberts can plus price in Euros suggests that you might be from Netherlands or Germany? If memory serves me well there was kind of a trend for such looks in furniture (e.g. colonial style, french style etc) in Europe somewhere in between 1975(+/- 5 years)-2000 so there is good chance that some of these items from back then are going out of homes to thrift stores/antique shops or straight up garbage disposal points. Some of them might be even older pieces. Wooden ornamented furniture been a hot trend in countries of southern shore of Baltic sea up until late 19th century and even later. Restored pieces from that era are worth huge amount of cash nowadays.Maybe try placing an announcement that you are interested in purchasing furniture of certain designs (maybe you have some older catalogues of such furniture if they were mass produced) – these are not items too much in vogue nowadays (normies often consider them to be "old fashioned bad taste") so you might provide an opportunity to actually sell their troublesome furniture for better prices (or for any price if no one else ever been interested in them) than thrift shops would offer them and provide you with an opportunity of buying them for prices lower than in thrift shops (that charge additional money on top of what they purchased them for from former owners). Also maybe certain cities/towns/villages are more likely sources of such furniture. It might be worth looking into it. You know like these that have older tenement houses, or ad more nobility or industrial factories owners than others. Some demographic-historic reasons that may cause higher chance of population owning them - more people in same area owned them bigger choice and lower prices might be possible. There are also new pieces that seems to be manufactured in areas between India and Indonesia that are of similar prices as that wardrobe you found. But I have no idea what is their quality.
>>10833856>What exactly was broken?one of the hinges was broken and the back plate and shelves had some wood worm damage. both the price and the repair work were out of my depth so I decided not to buy it. I understand the thrift store owners want to make a profit. You have some great points. I probably have more luck looking at thrift stores in villages where the population and the houses tend to be older. The second hand marketplace online is also a good option because people accept lower prices if it means you'll be picking it up, there are also people who don't value (or know) what they're selling and they just want to get rid of stuff so their asking price is lower than it would be at antique/second hand shops.
>>10833784If you're from germany, all our thrift stores have always been like this, you really are better off finding some gems on ebay klaz. I was so surprised the first time I heard about the burgerland thriftstores and their prices being actually cheap/for more people than just upper middle class and rich people.
>>10833874I'm in the Netherlands and the prices for furniture like this can really vary depending on what kind of thrift/second hand store it is. I was shocked by the 350€ price tag because in another second hand store in the same city it would be 125€ maximum. But stuff gets sold so quickly there that if you see something it's usually already sold. The Netherlands has a second hand online market called "marktplaats " where everyone can try to sell the stuff they no longer want, antique looking furniture varies in price there but I've seen some wardrobes like this for 150-200€. I've also been looking at antique looking bed frames but they're nearly always a weird size (no standard sizing yet) and I would need to cut my mattress to fit which I don't want to do.If I find something suitable I'll share it here.
>>10833878Renounce the modernity and embrace the tradition of European straw mattresses! Jokes aside I been sleeping on one once. It would be a year soon. Earlier it was like 2 weeks max until we get new thread.Did inflation and recession kill these threads?
I think victorian plastering is really interesting and adds a lot of flair to any room- I'm definitely planning to try it out once I get settled in my new place. I know you can buy premade pieces but you can also DIY them if you have knowledge.
>>10839787Cornishes, the plaster that connects wall to ceiling, are super cute too.
>>10839789plaster arches
>>10839792vent covers
>>10839794pair it all with wall stencils and you get a truly ornate feeling.
>>10839795panel walls are also very easy to blend into these themes.
>>10839796dropped pic like a dumbass
>>10839797In terms of DIY, most of the stuff surprisingly has quite a low entry barrier and just takes time or money. You can buy premade cornishes and other plaster, and stenciling is just painting but more annoying. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to be a lifestyle classic lolita. Obviously you don't have to do it all at once and make it super fancy, but even small flairs can add real personality to the room. End dump.
>>10834048I´m so glad this one has more variety, I love old darker rooms for classic lolita.
>>10834048>this board used to have a lot more lifestyle stuff before that 20 cosplay jerkoff threadsIn a couple more years this board will change it's color or just disappear & become a general on /s/ unfortunately.
last one for now.
>>10839908>>10840192I wonder if these are ceramic tiles faking the wood look. If these are regular "ground wood" panels it's living dangerously to use that room as bath, unless you are fine with replacing floor every 2-3 years.
>>10840663it's laminate
>>10840192Nice
LOL, this thread is 11 months old now.
My kira imai rug came yesterday!
>>10850986Dropped pic
>>10850987Your room decor is lovely! I especially love that shelf with the roses underneath <3
>>10851040Aww thank you! It’s one of my favorite pieces as well
>>1085098780s neovictorian furniture?
>>10828632ah yes, farmgoth
>>10851110Not sure when it’s from, but it’s French provincial.
As much I like the general look of gothic spooky houses in this thread, there's always just too much stuff in them fighting for space and they'd have me feeling on edge that I might knock something over. I'd much rather an early industrial era base with a couple of simple vintage pieces on top. More bar than teahouse.
>>10851230Basically more or less the same shiet but from different neighborhood.
Okee dokee, we hit image limit few days before one year anniversary.
Teh New Fred >>10851320
>>10850987I'm so jealous of your room, it's gorgeous!
>>10756184Is there anyone who knows a way to make a memorial space for a loved one in a tasteful way that doesn’t look tacky
>>10852819Yes.
>>10852819I put the order of service and the (fake) flower my partner wore in his buttonhole as a pallbearer into a nice box frame, so he can have a memorial to his nan out all the time but it's protected from dust. Our aesthetic is full of gallery walls and cabinet of curiosity type stuff so it fits nicely.
>>10756188Damn that's beautiful>>10756336>>10816791>>10819210These too>>10828632Those mushrooms would be pretty cute for a kids room.Nice collecting.
>>10850987Not surprised to see you posting here desu. Your room is very cute though! I also got the rug.

>>10861122>>10865371Do you guys not realize this thread has reached the image limit? There's no point in bumping it, there won't be any more images anyway, and the thread has already been replaced by a new thread >>10851320

>>10758182>candlestick matches green ceramic tiles of fireplaceokay, that's nice.

>15 fucking necrobumps for a thread at image limit since JulyNYS already, retard
>>10906393uh oh wannabe janny period alertlike any thread on this board is more worth the spot
>>10906393you seem upset
>>10910484Not them but they're literally bumping threads and deleting their post after, the thread is dead, just let it die.
>>10910499This thread is an anomaly, it never falls lower than middle of the list. Even newer thread get archived. But this is still page 5 despite no one wrote anything here for far longer time than new posts arrived in new thread. I guess jannies set some flag here or something.
As the new thread get archived (WTF jannies?) and this is still for some misterious reasons active I'm postink link to a newer freshly baked thread >>10911232
>>10911234Nothing mysterious about it. https://desuarchive.org/cgl/thread/10756184/#q10871043
>>10911252it is mysterious as there been loads of bumps in the archived one waaay more. This thread been higher in list even without any recent bumps while new had posts at the same period yet it went many pages down.
>>10911033>>10911234>>10911252>>10911718interesting....very interesting indeed...

>>10930431Kill yourself
>>10930434why are you so mad?
>>10930431it's so funny to me that it's the height of summer and americans go "you know what this needs? Spooky shit! Halloween is coming (in a few months)".
>>10933778It's autumn
>>10934533the meteorological summer season starts on June 1 and lasts three months, until September 1.Astronomical summer lasts from the date of the summer solstice until the autumnal equinox, which occurs in the Northern Hemisphere on September 22 or 23Where do you live where it's autumn already?Where I live we can still get heat waves until mid october at the latest. If I get past that point I finally feel like it's autumn even though it officially started ages ago. Also, to clarify why I made that comment; I don't associate hot weather with halloween, and it will be a few months (from when halloween stuff starts popping up in stores, not from now) until halloween is actually there.
It is to be expected
