Absolutely hate when people do that. Always make sure to at least watch the first season before going to a convention with that cosplay. Remember when a girl from my school cosplayd from Kakegurui the character Runa Yomozuki who was my favourite only to find out she never watch it and had no idea who she was cosplaying. People who have never engaged with Neko para before now hear this false statement and now fans of Neko para are being wrongfully shamed. And then people who want to be fans of Neko para seek to “change it”. Now Neko Para fans feel like they need to go through hoops to explain to misinformed people the game clarifies everyone’s age.My second example would be if a cosplayer did any character from “Gushing over Magical girls” and was lost as to why they are getting nasty looks at cons or mean comments on social media. There are plenty of sus animes and video games you certainly wouldn’t want to be affiliated with. TLDR: Miss information about a piece of media spreads like wildfire and the cosplayer feeds into that unknowingly because they never engaged with the series. And then “critics” who need to be right about everything press the issue harder and wrongfully shame fans and then there is a huge fight for no reason. And you could be cosplaying from inappropriate series. So it’s best to know what your cosplay tells others who see. I just think it looks silly to not know ANYTHING about at least the character you cosplay as.
