Texas thread died about a week ago or so... RIP, not OP of the previous Texas thread but the anon that had revived it briefly in October. Meant to revive it again this month in-time for it to reach 1-year-plus status, but had totally slipped my mind and was already too late by the time I had noticed... oh well, let's try this 1-year challenge all over again, shall we?UPCOMING NOTABLE EVENTS (for the next six months):Anime Frontier - Dec 12-14Ecchi Expo - Dec 12-14Ikkicon - Jan 9-11Ushicon / Komoricon - Feb 6-8 (both in Austin, Komoricon happening on Feb 7 only)AnimeVerse Houston - Feb 13-15WeebCon - Apr 3-5Anime Dallas - Apr 17-19Otaku Odyssey - May 8-10Riverwalk Anime - May 23-24A-Kon - Press X to Doubt (World Cup will be in town during Jun-Jul)Discuss topics about Texas cons here, including ones that have have happened recently such as Anime Impulse Dallas.
>>10964928Taiki Shuttle is from Kentucky...
>>10964928OP of the old thread here, once again thanks for taking care of our kid while I stepped out to buy smokes. I noticed that the old thread died but didn't feel like reviving it since /cgl/ is turning into a board for zoomers to farm engagement judging by all the new threads that don't use the existing generals. I was gonna ask why Dreamhack was left out, but I looked it up and turns out they can't get KBH center for the next few years due to rennovation so that's lame.>Anime Impulse DallasWas that the one where the entire con is a dealer room? I remember speculating several years ago that cons might devolve into just dealer rooms where there's also a rave, I guess the future is now.
>>10964940thats the funny part xdd
>>10964940And KFC moved its corporate headquarters to Texas earlier this year, so we be doing some sharing with Kentucky. Whataburger is still headquartered in Texas last I checked.>>10964944No problem! I wanted to see the day a Texas thread would turn a year old and still be on the board, unfortunately, it didn't happen this year, we got so darn close tho.>DreamhackI actually forgot about Dreamhack (never been but remembered when it was in Austin for a time), but it's interesting to see it leave for a similar reason Dream Con did when it left Austin to be in Houston. The Austin Convention Center is undergoing renovations as well.
>>10964944Anime Impulse was super mid with dealer/artist alley focused, and the after party was a walk from the KBH. But I did see an veteran from A-Kon holding the Nina Tucker poster which was super nostalgic! If anything my favorite thing from the whole convention was the cosplayers that were there.
>>10964928>A-Kon - Press X to DoubtCan people fucking give up on A-Kon already? All they're doing is jerking each other off, living in their former glory days. The claims on their return are greatly exaggerated. No angel investor who wants to remember their glory days is going to give them a million dollars to return. It's about to get a lot worse in DFW before it gets better when it comes to anime cons in the region.
where you niggas at >event quest get a pic with the brazil guy
>>10965457fuckero rocking my smgfu, mp5, awful choice of rail and bumpstock though, mp5 navy or bust
>>10965457Lol, I've seen you all walking around today. I was surpirsed it took this long for a thread to appear, but as a native Okie; I couldn't bring myself to start one.
>>10965468lmao where’d you see us at? did we interact at all?
>>10965470Just while walking around the exhibit hall. No I didn't. I did get a laugh at the Brazilian Miku flag guy though. Been walking around with a group in a Mashle Cosplay today.
>>10964979Frontier gets better every year. 26 or 27 will likely be a pretty good year for themThey just have to stop using all the same staff as their NYC show. They just don't have the time for two shows that close together.Other than that, DFW is in a weak position, sure. It's time for someone who actually wants to run a real con to start one. Too bad everyone with experience is getting out of the game
>>10965471Tragic I don't think I saw ya'll, good thing you saw brazil guy, he was there last year with a bluetooth speaker and his flag. Love that guy.
>>10965474I'll probably be making rounds again tomorrow as the Sicko, but we shall see.
did anyone see ss_kale there?
>>10965478have fun, I won't be there to see it but i wish you good luck
Opening up the rodeo arena and shoving the snack stands and tables in there was a good move. It'd be nice if they could get some food trucks in there or right outside, feels like just about every restaurant next to the convention center is a hotel restaurant.
Has anyone who has gone to ecchi expo give their opinion on it? Thought about going but not sure if it would be worth it or fun
>>10965794it's the best con in existence desu, being able to see so many scantily clad cosplayers~
Anyone got stories on ikkicon at the Kalahari?
>>10965844OP here, last Ikkicon I met and shook hands with Asmongold and Emiru in quick succession and then went on my way. The Twitch Con incident from a few months back makes me think they might not show up this time. Unfortunate, but totally understandable if they decide to do that. If Asmongold does show up AND I FIND HIM, I'll give him a sticker of thread pic. His reaction when he pulled Taiki Shuttle on his uma vid was priceless kek
>>10964928Surprised there isn’t a Texas discord surely there must be enough of you.
>>10965867if he shows up, ill make sure to ---
>>10966131The current meta is to go to the individual Discord servers for the conventions you're attending or planning to attend. This general is basically a leftover from a bygone era at this point.
>>10966161That’s a shame, but yeah /cgl/ and most of 4chan has been in decline for a while. I just figured since there is an active Florida discord there would be one for other states.
iss texas worth visiting for cons
>>10966227Worth it for at least San Japan, Colossalcon Texas, and maybe Frontier. We have a lot of mid- to shit-tier cons here, ymmv on those
>>10966236how about tsumicon and ecchi expo?
>>10966238>TsumiconNever been so can't tell ya much about it>Ecchi ExpoI attended the very first one back in 2021... and never again. Even if the recent ones were good, the company behind it, Fandom Events, is a sinking ship it looks like with a few of their cons being cancelled in this past year alone. They're also facing corruption allegations, mostly directed at the con owner. This one's one to watch to see if they're happening anymore, alongside their other events.
>>10966238>tsumiconSmall. It's a bit closer to a glorified Halloween party with OF girls signing autographs and taking pictures. I'd only go if it's convenient.Never been to Ecchi Expo.
>>10966245>corruption allegations, mostly directed at the con owner. What does that even mean? How does a privately owned business like this even DO corruption? There's no public policy to influence, there's nothing to be corrupt about. Are vendors paying under the table to keep other vendors out? Or guests doing that? That's all I can think of that could even approach it.Fraud I get, tons of cons commit fraud.
Should I go to Ikkicon? I want to budget smarter but I have enough money for once. I have outfits but can't afford a really impressive cosplay. The $75 for 5 sealed events looks so tempting
>>10966373>how can small business be corrupt?there's a thousand ways from promising high and delivering low, paying really low wages, refusing to pay smaller acts, taking cash for some things and hiding it in a box with no receipts or taxes on it.Often enough the limit of small business corruption is just the arrogance the owner.but should I show up to ikkicon if basically nobody I know will attend it? I know one person working there I miss that guy
>>10966373I think it's just a shorthand for fraud and embezzlement. If there's any con the corruption you describe applies to, it's probably Anime Matsuri because of its connection to the city government.
Aaaaaannnnddd Fandom Events just canceled another one of their cons (Anime New Mexico), and surprise, they're not even issuing any refunds for those that bought tickets! Another clear sign that the company is in shambles and they're now crumbling under their hubris
>>10966402>there's a thousand ways from promising high and delivering low, paying really low wages, refusing to pay smaller acts, taking cash for some things and hiding it in a box with no receipts or taxes on it.>Often enough the limit of small business corruption is just the arrogance the owner.None of that is corruption.Unethical, sure, but corruption is specifically an outside force using illegal means to influence the behavior of a figure or organization (in this case a con)>Attend ikki or no?Eh, i mean, if you like waterparks and have the time and money sure Or if you really like the 18 plus content.I would say "otherwise just go to another con later" but holy shit so many died
>>10966420Y'all just be sayin' shit, huh?
>>10966491I'm not. It's just the first one that comes to mind with the relationship with the local gov to go beyond the usual fraud and embezzlement shenanigans that cons get into.
>>10966427That's shitty, I hope they get sued into oblivion
Anyone going to ikkicon?
>>10966721Yeah I'm gonna go. The resort is like being in an anime episode lol
>>10966427>>10966564They just cancelled all their events except ecchi expo, which is probably it's last year and they're folding afterwards
>>10966867Dang, gonna miss Cottonwood Faire. Ain't a whole lot that happens up here.
>>10966867Anon, I have great news.
>>10966867im gonna miss ecchi expoi want texas to reform and opening up more lewd cons
>>10966984Josh is proving that he's a giant bag of shit like he has been the entire time. What a massive fuck head he's been. He decided to rip off the wrong people. It's well-deserved for what happened to Fandom Events. He might have kicked off the idea that lewd cons make money, but then he runs it to the ground.
