Dead Board? Did you guys manage to book any hotel rooms before they sold out? My friends and I managed to snag 2 at the Westin and 1 at the AC.
>>
Got a double bed at Miyako. Hopefully some rooms drop before cancelation fee dealine.

Going to need discord invite if still active.
>>

I got unlucky with the queue, despite position 1674 when it opened all the hotels I wanted were sold out. Luckily one of the friends got an insane lucky 150 position and secured a JW Marriot double room

>Dead Board?
Not trying to doom post or drama post, but my 2c.

Post covid it's just not the same, we had fun but meetups in post COVID are kinda more of a "hey hello how you been..." irl meet from maybe the discord gulls are in. More of a formality and drinking event where it's easier to type shit out than anything. Covid changed a lot of people in the scene, a lot of drama in the past got reheated when everyone was stuck with cabin fever, people either just want to straight up do their own thing or already know exactly who they want to hang out with.

Gull meets in the past were due to no real good central way to organize meets with anything but reddit/facebook and those faggy groups, 4chan offered a good fast pass to chill people who liked a lot of the things floating around the internet both offensive and non offensive. Last gull meetup I went to had some people so obviously pol thirsty need 'con gf for tradwife' or want to ask about polshit in a non-ironic way. It wasn't a one off either, it's just not viable to focus on cgl meets when all the other options exist.

Keep in mind this board was basically made so moot could promote his Otakon shit.

ur already ngmi if you unironically think this. You're either legitimately retarded or part of the Upper K.
Flights into LA and LV are amongst some of the most EXPENSIVE flights in the country because of the runway tax and surge pricing. This especially so during "major events".

I travel in and out of LAX for work... where are you flying from florida or maine on spirit or frontier? Not to be mean here but if you're flying to AX and not in the area I expect you are aware to drop about 1000 in hotel, flight, and basic eating. Sorry you're new to CGL
>>
>>10967305
you can try flying into one of other los angeles area airports such as burbank, or long beach, etc.

You might end up spending more on transportation to get to your hotel than you'd save even if the tickets are cheaper though.

If you fly into Burbank btw, you might potentially save some money on transport. there's 2 metrolink stations within walking distance, one north, one south. They'll take you into LA union station for 6 bucks, witch is about 5 miles from the convention center. You have to time your arrival right tho

Honestly the world is completely different. No one wants to socialize anymore because it's to big of a risk. And I can't blame them. Every single group I join is nothing but high school teir drama and grooming. 4chan groups even worse on that front. Literally every 4chan group is just a bunch of bullies trying to trick other people in to getting fucked by their lolcow pets and victim blaming so they don't have to take accountability.
>>
>>10969408

This. You say something stupid, you're pretty much ostracized from the community.
>>
>>10967707
They should just temporarily move AX to Vegas until 2029.

So far they got the Witch Hat Atelier and BlueLock mangaka, but I don't read either of those (good news for their fans tho). Anyone else noteworthy I'm missing? Thinking of going again this year after a long absence since I live walking distance.

>>10967297

>>
>>10970746
a lot of artist alley stays there since they have to park in the convention structure every day anyway and it's the cheapest real hotel. it's probably already sold out.
i don't care about any hotel facilities during ax so i'd rather just do a residence or a holiday inn or even a motel, but i can see the appeal for people needing a place to chill with others after working for 12 hours.
>>
i'll be there like i was last year assuming all goes to plan. i might get employed between that time though so we'll see but my badge was shipped out today so should be ready.
for the few that encountered me last year i was that guy in lounge 21 with a hoodie and sunglasses on.
i intend to do the same this year give or take. most of last year i helped people get to their lines, was surprised how many people even bothered to approach me despite looking like the fuck her right in the pussy guy
>>
>>10970840
>looking like the fuck her right in the pussy guy
a proper beard trim goes a long way in dispelling that illusion.
but that's probably a better option than getting kicked out for a ted k cosplay.
>>
>>10970876
one year there was a nazi deadpool, uniform and all. they forced him to take parts of it off. luckily i got a photo before he was forced to kneel
regardless, it was entirely accidental that i looked like the fuck her right in the pussy guy. i only realized after the fact. but at least i was helpful, people appreciated that i knew my way around the con and the lines while volunteers and staff didnt. one guy ended up at the blue archive stuff totally out of the convention and i walked him all the way into the venue so youd be surprised how bad it could really be

meetup wise i want to do more of those given the only turnout last year was near the end.

In what universe is it more fun sitting in a car for hours and then paying hundreds if not thousands of dollars to stand for 8 hours and catch a glimpse between the autistic sea of phones of some plastic surgery ants lipsyncing on stage while two obese idiots to your left and right, spilling into your assigned seat like a spririt airlines flight( rip), scream incoherent schizo babble directly into your ears.
Concerts are my special interest, i love them, but kpop is nowhere on the level of Anime Expo even if AX is an anxiety inducing claustrophobic nightmare.

I'm considering signing up but my preconception tells me I already know exactly what I'll get if I do.
If I instead went and tried to be the least likeable candidate, and someone still managed to befriend/date me, would that be a good or bad result because at this point I'm almost wondering what constitutes success in this.

>my first time going to AX
if you care about something, make sure you're hours early
wear comfy shoes or bring a spare pair.
do not blindly trust what the staff tells you unless they're industry.
and stay away from the westin.
>>
>>10971040
Same as every year but change the shirt each day

>>10971046
>first time
i remember my first time. i was not prepared for how fucked my feet would get. i strongly suggest listening to >>10971063 on this one. the staff part especially because you have people who have been going to these for over ten years now and will help significantly better and faster on the spot than any volunteer or staff. unless its the people giving the 18+ wristbands who just need ID and give you a wristband, just ask some chucklefuck for directions. if theyre competent they will help. like i said here >>10970840 a lot of my time last year was helping others to their lines and just chatting since may as well be in the line until the stuff im prepping for is up. directions and where lines are/arent is critical. when to line up is also critical. you may need to show up hours ahead of time to have any chance of success, but some you can just drop on in casually and you'll be fine. its really dependent on which room or location it will be in. the bigger the room, the more time ahead you need to be there baking in the sun.

obviously be sensible with who you ask or trust, but if you spot me and my retarded ass i will gladly help you figure shit out and even help you plan it. the anime expo app sucks ass too but if you want to have a todo list style with times that's a way to go about it, just dont listen to line prep advice on it. as for cosplay i wish you luck
>>
>>10971063
>and stay away from the westin

ax is different because of the constant turning and stopping and shifting and standing in the same spot. it's like if disneyland had more 5x more people but it was only 10 main streets stacked side by side, and it's 4 days and there's no places to sit down.
>>
>>10971098
thats also during high congestion times too. its not always like that but it has regularly gotten that bad.
>>
>>10971098
That's a grim image... imagine having a fragile intricate cosplay in there
>>
>>10971098
Those pics are misleading because they are taken before the exhibit hall/etc opens for the day and those people are all waiting. Once everything opens those crowds disperse and you can walk around. It's still crowded but not shoulder-to-shoulder like that for the most part.
Anyway as a local my recommendation to newcomers is to get away from the con for lunch/dinner/whatever if you have time. The immediate area around LACC is pretty desolate, but Pico Metro station is right across the street and if you ride one stop to 7th St. Metro there's a ton of affordable places to eat including a mall with a food court and a Target where you can get any necessities you forgot to bring.
>>
>>10971175
that's the west hall entrance during the middle of the con, not the south hall. you can see it on the signs. it's just a tremendous traffic jam due to the difficulty of going outside that year.
and it just so happens that the back of the convention center is currently under massive construction. it's questionable how much of the mezzanine will be accessible as they demolished the bridge already over pico rivera and i haven't seen any updates. the map already suggests it's not available, meaning things will get messy.

>>
>>10971314
Hope to run into you! I was thinking about bringing my prop Mondragon but decided not to because of logistics, I did create a prop C96 and some stick grenades so I could still have some props, I should be wearing it Saturday if everything goes to plan
>>
>>10971355
The props would definitely make it more obvious if I see you! Although I doubt there will be much other Youjo Senki cosplayers to get confused with
>>
>>10971355
if you're on a flight you can often just put something like that in a poster tube and no one will really question it. and it doubles as protection for your posters you will get from the con. but carrying a rifle around all day inside anime expo is just stupid and asking for trouble.
>>
>>10971375
If you see a Hispanic guy with an undercut haircut and mustache its me! Ive had the misfortune of mistaking random people for seagulls, its super awkward and im such a sperg it dosent help lol
>>10971380
I'm not trying to spend more money on this flight for another checked bag lol, also that's another reason I'm not bringing it is because 1.) I don't want any tards breaking my prop with how crowded it is and 2) Cali is a libtard hellhole and they might give me shit for it, with the C96 its smaller and much more discrete
>>
>>10971395

>>
>>10971414
hes right tho cali being shit is universally known even outside the states
>>
>>10971420
as someone thats lived in california for my whole life, i can attest to it being tremendously shittier than it used to be, which says a lot considering it was still pretty bad.
its expensive to exist here, in every capacity. food, gas, housing, and pay isnt enough as your soul is crushed. i still see people walking around doublemasking for covid still, voluntarily. the smash and grab crime is so common and unpunished.
on the bright side, its LA, and norcal is significantly worse in all these ways.

i try my best to not give a fuck for these problems and just want to live my life day to day, but thats pretty goddamn hard when gas is over $6.00/gallon
>>
I understand that you've wasted your lives being poltards, regurgitating brainwashed talking points but it has nothing to do with this board or thread. if you feel so strongly about bringing up irrelevant things across the internet, why not become an expert on the topic instead of being a mouthpiece for some cucked billionaire.

anyway it looks like lacc upgraded to wifi 7 very recently so hopefully it's fully stress tested and we have no lag/disconnects trying to get a million payments through in the exhibit hall day 1. i miss when we used to have e3 to be the guinea pig for new infrastructure going into con season.

AX is my favorite con because I can sit in cool panels all day from sunup to 2am, walk back to my parking lot at work a block away to sleep and shower, then head back for 4 days and not even think about that im on the wrong side of 30 and none of my friends go to cons anymore.
>>
>>10972002
That's me with every large convention that has a light rail stop within a block or two and cheaper hotels along its route.
Anything i have to buy an overpriced hotel or rideshare for is automatically a shit tier convention.

is there like, a proxy buying service for cons? there's a booth selling exclusive stuff at AX but I honestly don't want to buy a ticket and drive down to DTLA and find parking and all that shit for it

>>
>>10972576
there's a guy on twitter that does it, but if the thing you want will sell out you're not gonna get it without paying scalper price anyway because of the opportunity cost and lines.

i hate ntr but considering i attended one of these before back in 2015/2016 (i forget which year) where 3 contestants had to win over someone from the audience, the other two were women and one was putting on an insanely forced long drawn out monologue and even got booed by the audience. they needed a third person and i patiently waited for the panel host to pick me and she asked "why should i pick you" and while my intent was to say "i know how to win a man over" i said "i know men better than you" and rightfully she was mad by that but let me on anyway, and i won by offering top gun on bluray and hotwings and they can pick the dip and even did a bridal carry with the guy as the room cheered. it stands to reason i can have fun with this one too, just in a different way

as long as everyone has a good time of course, im not trying to fuck over the panel but considering how hard that previous one i went to crashed and burned the bar might be low, hard to say

I actually found out an old friend of mine was going and asked him if he could try to snag what I'm looking for. Would Blue Archive merch sell out really fast? I don't wanna pressure him to bum rush the booth or to camp out or anything dumb like that, but I'm also now kinda feeling nervous about him missing it completely. I mean it's not the end of the world if he can't get it, but I'd rather not pay scalper prices secondhand.
>>
>>10972668
there's a lot of pedo gooners at ax but they don't have any money so as long as they get there the first two days it most likely won't be gone.
with the current retarded dumbassery happening in regards to the president and customs though it's entirely possible they brought very little to sell and it might sell out.
that type of stuff isn't going to be scalped anyway though so if you miss it then you can just buy it on ebay/mercari later.
>>
>>10972670
well that's a relief. I was poking around and saw doomposts about how exclusive con merch sells out really fucking fast but now I'm wondering if it's just preemptive FOMO bait from scalpers/proxy buyers
even in the worst case scenario that I have to pay scalper prices i mean... if it's still less than the cost of a ticket + gas + parking then what fucking ever, lol.
>>
>>10972671
most stuff does sell out or close to it. anything they don't sell is just trash so selling out the first day is close to ideal. sometimes a single shipping box is the entire inventory and it'll be gone in an hour. it's just unlikely that blue archive will be subject to that type of situation. that's something you're more likely to see at the hoyo booth, who treats their customers like cattle and force feeds them labubu tier scams.
>>
>>10972676
speaking from experience theres also some merch people absolutely sell out of within hours but it also depends what it is. last year there were people showing up just for one piece cards because there was an exclusive promo being given out and they had the foresight to bring a ton and spread it out over the whole con rather than first come first serve.
likewise i wanted a specific official top nep hat and the bastards ran out within an hour so depending on who its from and what it is, expect them to go quick

the freebies from blue archive the past 2 years were interesting. i saved them and mailed them to my buddies (for free, but they paid shipping) and those now go for big money, even during and after the con. even the freebie handouts can be limited in quantity so do at the very least prepare for this. unfortunately im also going for a third round of those freebies for a buddy who couldnt make it this year and she really enjoys her UOH archive stuff. i dont even engage with it i just went for my buddies who cant so they can get their questions answered. its such a surreal experience watching these guys drop over 5k in gacha rolls on a roll train in line so casually

i hope you mean liquid iv and not actual iv. you're also just gonna make yourself sicker drinking a bunch of sugar and salts when your body just needs lots of water.
absolutely need sunscreen and sunglasses
and i find that bringing frozen water that you will then drink and wrapping it with cooling towels that you can use and also works as an insulater is more lightweight than lugging around extra cool packs that serve no other purpose and create garbage. everything you don't have to carry is less pain on your feet at the end of the day.

not him but last year in the bleach panel line some fat 350 pound woman was on one, while i was sitting on the ground next to her, and she leaned back and it shattered and flung shards into my face and eye. theyre lucky i only got a cut here and there on my face but holy fuck i cannot stress enough how shitty those are if you dont sit exactly centered evenly on em.

>>10972733
sunscreen, deodorant, if youre like me and suffer from chafing, some anti-chafe balm because your nuts will get sweaty and rank as fuck and that will absolutely ruin you. granted as ive lost weight its less of an issue but you cant get past the sweat and heat buildup so its good to at least prepare.
if it helps you i recently got out of ass surgery and sleeping/lying down is not an option for me while i deal with post-recovery, and due to the specifics i may not be in good standing come AX. if you absolutely are fucked enough to justify it and not be a faggot abusing how exploitable it is, get the ADA sticker and use it as you need to. i need to this year for sure unfortunately, but its just too easy to exploit it and i wish theyd at least scrutinize some people that exploit it.

the point of the meet is for entertainment. not for you to drug and capture your breeding slave. they're calling you an autistic incel because you can't immediately recognize that. and no it will not be filled with your imaginary dei boogeyman. it will be almost 100% thirsty ugly men like yourself. but most of them will have enough self awareness to make it enjoyable.

saturday is the focused day for big premieres, even when july4th is a monday, because independence day isn't a holiday in japan. but it's more relevant to look at the schedule and pick what you want to see rather than what's popular.

Yes, liquid IV the name escaped me. Thanks for the advice, I was planning on drinking water but I’ve gone through water so fast sometimes it gives me a headache and I overhydrate so I was hoping the liquid IV would help just in case. The frozen water bottle is a better idea though. And good to know the stools are useless, now I know not to waste my money.
>>10972737
Thanks for the advice, I’ll look into some anti chafing, I’ve heard just roll on deodorant can work for that too
>>
>>10972904
liquid iv is just gatorade with slightly less sugar. it doesn't make you less thirsty in fact it makes you more thirsty because of the sodium and sugar. all electrolyte drinks do is taste bad and make you fat.
only reason to drink them is if you're shitting water and about to pass out from eating a diarrhea dog out front.

I hate that you have to stay in those lines for the panels and the merch in AM. Theres so many early panels I miss because they cant realistically separate them.
>>
>>10972917
>separate
I'm guessing you mean stagger the panels and shopping. I think exhibit hall opens at 9 and panels are 10 but it is too short of a gap to get anything done.
They used to have premier badges and you could buy everything with short lines and then get into a panel straight up. That was the golden age of ax.

why don't people bring more of these if there's no places to sit down
Also July 1 is when Will Call starts right? I need to physically get my badge
>>
>>10972928
they add weight, they're huge and swing around smacking people and yourself if you don't shove them in a bag, and they collapse and break without warning.
the people who bring a pillow to sit on instead are ax vets.
>>
>>10972919
no I mean if you want to hit a 10AM panel the lines sometimes make it impossible to actually get into it even if you show up early.

if you don't like that one you could use this.
It's cheap, light, and folds fast whenever you need to move and daiso should still be selling them. It's served me well for a few years.
The only downside is the height but it beats sitting on the ground imo
>>

Are parking break ins actually that bad? I won’t be able to go next year so I’m planning on bringing a car to dump merch in
>>
>>10973005
i park on-site at the convention from 5am if i can all the way til 1am at latest. ive done this for years. i do not trust parking in lots outside of the convention property and ive lived in LA for 30 years. doesnt mean all lots are bad it just means i dont trust them even with my shitbox car in there
>>
I lost $50 for last year’s parking, where am I supposed to go? The city is way too big for this.
>>
>>10973005
in DTLA break ins are constant for vehicles. Not as bad as it was and lapd ARE more active rn because of soccer and ax. However. Police will do nothing and never find them and even if they do they will wait till they have multiple counts to make a bigger "bust" and look good. Which doesnt help if your out of town. It sucks but your best bet is to make your car more secure, hide anything valuable looking, and park in a structure thats gated with no street access. Id say valet, but those fucks will def steal your shit. A easy somewhat copium thing is locking the items inside a box in the trunk or even a backpack and locking that with a bike lock to your spare tire or something. The idea isnt that they cant steal it but make it take so long they skeeve off to the next victim.
Honestly con parking isnt too bad because they have garage security. unarmed stoners walking around wont help much but its something.

Do street parking in East LA by the subway (Gold Line). You can usually find some cheap strip mall with tons of parking that never gets checked and they're a hell of a lot safer than downtown.
Take the subway to Pico station (most of the stations don't even have turnstiles to force you to pay) and you'll be there in like 15 minutes

I'm probably not the best judge cause I kinda cheesed the line this year (the lines extend down like 5 random street blocks so you can very easily just join the mob early)

I think it would still be a good idea to bring a sun umbrella regardless so you can more easily relax while eating at the food trucks outside

No and that's including the fact I got to see everything I wanted including panels I'm personally invested in. The way they handled the quantity and flow of people was so bad and while I can't really blame them for the construction I can blame them for their handling within the bounds of the con. They made so many artificial bottlenecks choke points that anyone here could have done better for deciding how to organize this. On top of that the whole ADA stuff was being let in at the same time as general attendance when it's supposed to be let in a few minutes early because they're fucking disabled and get mowed down by the crowds but even that wasn't handled right. I don't want to come off entitled or abuse ADA but I'm recovering from ass surgery still so I did have a good reason, moving is fucking hard and painful, sitting or standing is too. I've been going since 2014, and this still isn't my worst ranked one but it's pretty damn low

Some of the shit at the hater's dojo panel night 2 reminds me why picking randoms from the crowd just doesn't make for good entertainment sometimes. People are eager to yap into a mic but lack the charisma to do it. Plus the panel was badly run, they're supposed to roast each other's takes but they have to rock paper scissors for who goes first, so most of them picked a topic the other random contestant had no context on. Why the fuck are we deciding a topic after people are selected? The late night fun panels seemed pretty bad this year but I missed a few. On to next year, I suppose.
>>

id like to contrast it with the waifu wars 18+ panel, which i hate to keep typing like this but there were 2 of them and the 18+ panel is unironically fun anything goes and you bring your tism to the stage unlike the normal one where its preselected and minigames.
we had people debating lightning mcqueen vs fujo bait and that shit is great. im not someone who gets on camera or likes being the one on stage but i decided this time to try otherwise. i put daidouji on the table and the fuckin person i go against brings super girl, like man what the fuck is that. it was a normie argument she was making and all i needed was "i love a woman that can beat the shit out of me" and put the mic down, the audience cheered. i had a minute at my disposal and i used a few seconds, it went back and forth enough that the other person started getting unironically mad that she wasnt instantly winning this one, and the panelists had to step in and settle it. i got tons of comments the following days from passerbys that were there saying my pick deserved to win, it was bullshit that super girl won. for my pick i even got to say "i like daidouji because its like enjoying jojo but if it wasnt gay". all things considered this was my highlight even though i lost because it was the most fun ive had in the last 12 years, with the only exception being getting to meet keiji inafune in 2014. pic related, was one of the panelists from the waifu wars 18+, all of them are great
>>
>>10973342
There was a panel that did this with a Whose Line is it Anyway style and it started off chaotic but ended up being kind of fun. Haven't seen them in a while.
>>
>>10973352
Thats starting off chaotic and recovering into being fun. The hater's dojo started with an ai slop image behind the panelists, and opened with garbage and never got close to being fun.
As for the hear me out/hot take panels >>10973336 this is basically what happened. One of them had a spidergirl that was more human than spider, and at that point just pick rachnera from monster musume and commit to it slightly because she at least has 8 eyes instead of 2. when the teletubbies guy dropped the only hot take people kept booing him so hard it drowned out the mic, with some of the women saying "thats a child" so any actual hot takes would have probably gotten you gaped. your only choice was play it safe, which defeats the point especially for 18+ affairs. sure some reasonably funny picks like the green stick figure guy but still.

I dont mean to sound whiny but if youre going to make it 18+, let it be 18+. You're an adult, youre at an anime convention.
>>
>>10973331
Having fun in a public space is less stressful than trying to make it official inside a private one, as long as there aren't faggots trying to ruin a good time by bringing 2016 "guys look I'm so horny LOLOLOL" bullshit into the mix. Unoriginal, unfunny fucks...
>>10973351
I skipped out on waifu wars because the last time I went they had some hard limit about not having anime characters that weren't as-defined-by-the-USA adults, which removes 90% of the characters anyone gives a single fuck about. They offered the same couple of characters everyone in the room feels comfortable talking about and, as a result, was really fucking boring.
>>10973342
The only good thing about the hater's dojo panel was the oreimo guy. I was one of the couple of vocal supporters in the crowd while all the normalfags were going "yikes bro frfr". Heckling the fatass was fun and I really wanted to get up on stage to piss off as many people as I could without being preachy.
>lack the charisma to do it
Which why I wasn't surprised when the panel became a bunch of annoying black people.

>they had some hard limit about not having anime characters that weren't as-defined-by-the-USA adults
Its really important to mention that both waifu wars panels had different approaches. the one on day 1 one was just "no loli, fuck off we know you want to but we cant do that, sorry" and the other took moral high ground on it. the 18+ one was fun regardless of the rule because we had no problem working around it. We pulled up rule34 on the spot sometimes so clearly we all just have to abide by the JW Marriott rules on this one. The other waifu wars was the shitty one that youre talking about where its preselected stuff. The one I went to you bring your own waifu/husbando to the table. We had spencer from icarly mogging. We had aunt fanny from robots too but that was a repeat choice. I recommend the 18+ one at all times, not the gay sterile one.

Otherwise, if everyone thinks its dead then that's a good thing. You can have the event become focused again with less people (read: less dregs) and bring your own goddamned mahjong table. I was listening to the organizer describe a set-up that was less than fifty pounds for flight purposes and I think I can afford a camping table, folding chairs, and a half-okay mahjong set. The right people need to feel unwelcome, as hard as that may be for some people to enforce.

this, we may be at an anime convention, but there is no reason we should bend a knee to the crowd that its not designed for. the "no personal attacks" shit is somewhat understandable because it can get bad fast and is just there to peacekeep at a basic level, but if you show up to a thing that isnt for you, and you try to force people to make it for you, you can fuck right off
>>
File: mohtable.jpg (1.01 MB, 1815x1361)

>>10973359
>no personal attacks
Two things: You don't need to make telling people (in real life to their actual faces) "We don't like what you do. Go do it somewhere else away from us" a personal attack. At the same time, if someone makes a loathsome subsection of a subculture into their entire personality, then enforcing his/her removal will inevitably be a personal attack. It's not my fault if the annoying fat woman not wearing clothes that she honestly ought to wear has no life behind her eyes.

At the end of the day: people are people and rules are words on paper. If removing the right people necessitates insulting what they made their personalities to be, then do so. So many events get ruined by people saying "we need to be doing numbers" and "welp, the more the merrier" when things get out of hand. This isn't a secret; stop letting it happen goddamnit.

i know anon, im saying we dont need to be dicks about it and we clearly grasp this, but we also need to stop treating those people demanding they tone it down or make it normie friendly like they have a gun pointed at us if we tell them its not for them. if someone is mad we have an 18+ section cardoned off from the rest of the convention, and theyre mad about it, tell em to get over it. "but theyre-" "nobody is forcing you to go there or see it, get over it and stop whining, go complain to the basically naked cosplayers if this bothers you so much we got people walking around in underwear only or less" but they'll find a way to dodge that point just to keep whining anyway.
the rules are just to keep basic guidelines, we're able to understand this, but to some the rules are laws that must be used to benefit their shitty behavior in ruining things too. i want all umamusume enjoyers a nice trip to the glue factory, but i wont shout it at the top of my lungs either, they can enjoy it and i can hate it and we can still be buddies, i even hung out with a couple of the cosplayers for a while despite my deep hatred for horses. pic related, these dudes were great to chill with

sorry the jannies like to get uppity all the same sometimes. ive been banned before for calling a poster a newfag in the last few years and dont feel like putting up with it right now. anime expo used to be fun, now its not, and a lot of it stems from these people trying to make everything geared away from what made it fun and enjoyable to begin with.
back in 2014-2018 i could walk in and buy some loli doujins, wall scrolls, boards, posters, keychains, and a lot more from both small and big booths casually if i wanted, and now you can barely find anything beyond the doujins and almost no real artist alley people offer it anymore because of all the bitching they get
im not sure what happened to people's mindset after 2020, but if you can have blue archive, nikke, and brown dust 2 as huge booths here, but cant have the artist alley full of artists theres something wrong

-artist alley being smaller sucks, but it is what it is. that's what local cons are for.

the most disappointing part of ax for me was that tcg scalping has introduced a bunch of scum thugs to the event. it's embarrassing to be interested in one piece or pokemon. and i feel like i have to vet people before talking to them.

>The sluttery is too much and the focus shifted away from mahjong and fun to "buh buh I watch le hentai lole"
not the anon you were replying to but i do agree as it attracts those kinds of people it can get shitty fast. it has a time and place, mahjong should be the focus for midnight mahjong.
on the other hand im a degenerate gooner and specialize in archival of degenerate material which is a really fun topic for real. do you know how many eroge mahjong games are out there? its a fucking ton, and id gladly talk about that shit at midnight mahjong AND tell people to fuck off with the ball stomping they can claim their own area to do that with.

last year people bought badges just to scalp promo cards, this year was no different and worse. what really got me bad was last year someone got into the exhibit hall 6 hours early somehow and was mad the people handing out one piece cards werent there yet.

Who was the oreimo guy?
I went day 2 and clocked out and dipped after the Dragonball vs Naruto BS. These people can’t debate to save their lives and I wish the panelists gave them the topic rather than them choosing. Huge Oreimo fan here, so I would’ve loved to hear something actually interesting other than normie shounen slop.

i was the one on stage at the day 1 waifu wars and the same outfit all con (i changed clothes but cleaned jacket each night) which was some shorts, black hoodie, black shirt, sunglasses on.
i did intend to go to the second waifu wars but once i realized they were preselected i left and went elsewhere. i left the hater dojo hard enough that i didnt realize someone followed me out, but i did intend to stay but i dont recall yelling at anyone, i was pretty quiet. i stuck around for the hear me out in full but i did yell at the guy who picked that spidergirl in hear me out because he would commit to the 8 legs but not 8 eyes.

the very first midnight mahjong was recognized and popped off because sluts showed up to make it look like a party and not just degenerate street gambling. the posts about it got shared and the next year more people wanted in.
>>
>>10973102
Apparently they stopped allowing the parties because they don't want the liability. AX was the death blow as they hated people bringing their own booze instead of buying from the bar.
>>
>>10973390
you can have sluts roll up and have a good time without making it into a degeneracy breeding ground thats the point we're trying to get across. it was mahjong with sluts, not feet juice for 10 bucks a cup and majhong on the side

Considering the fire marshal showed up enough times to be basically an attendee of the con I have a feeling he was a little upset.
>>
>>10973407
the fire marshall is always at the con observing. they come out to specific spots to regulate and make sure the involved parties know it's over for them. it only takes a few minutes for them to show up to a consistent problem.

I was volunteering behind the scenes. They're making poor business decisions in pursuit of money, and it will only get worse because they are corpos who don't care about the medium at all. Just how much they can pull from your wallet. With all the departments that were cut expect even fewer of us next time, and a greater mess than before. Also having had the displeasure of interacting with them this year I can tell you that half of the spja staff are assholes too. Like the literal normie chad/stacies high on their own inflated sense of self importance.
>>
is Anime Los Angeles a good alternative then. I doubt it has the star power of AX but just in terms of cool merch and fan gatherings
>>
>>10973412
as someone that actually did volunteer bts and not just pretend:
>in pursuit of money
>they are corpos
spja is a non profit with high turnover.
i agree that a lot of spja managers are oblivious self absorbed assholes but trying imply they are greedy capitalists is inane. the board that funded the event before it was self sustaining are also just chill weeb geezers and surprisingly white. there was a time when ax had 100k attendees but could only exist because old people and japanese companies were pumping money into it. that's where a lot of the unnecessary budget worries come from.

fuck yeah. There was tons more loli this year. I think the stick is being pushed out of people's butts more and more
>>
>>10973415
i threw away all my volunteer shit and i don't phone post. i also got a career so haven't felt the need to pad my resume with strenuous volunteer work since 2019. it's sad to see that ax is not teaching their volunteers about spja anymore.

non profits have to publicly disclose all their expenses, you can go look them up yourself. if you feel like they're penny pinching and overworking you, it's because they are. but all that money is going right back into anime expo.

a hotel room shared between two people is like $130 a day and i don't know how much food stipends are now, but the total cost of volunteers is less than minimum wage for the menial jobs. they were getting an even better deal by working people for 16 hours which was utterly ridiculous but super common. so getting rid of volunteers is not cost cutting. i say all this just to explain that i know more about how non profits work then you do.
>>
>>10973418
Sure anon sure. Until I see a happi you're talking out of your ass. Especially since I had to sit in on a meeting with the vice president and several of the management staff, and the ones who pleaded the case for their departments last year were unceremoniously gutted in the name of profit. The people there now truly have nothing but contempt for you, and its likely that if I even attend again I'll just buy a ticket. I already make more than enough

While I would love to watch you both fight more, I spoke to enough volunteers and security that even if both of you were lying, everything you said about the mismanagement is true simply because the volunteers were at least honest and said the same shit. Cutting certain roles and duties within the volunteer groups really fucked it up a lot too since now many of them are doing shit they weren't prepared for or qualified for depending on the specifics.
Don't misunderstand, I do appreciate you miserable bastards putting up with us, but I genuinely love the honesty when it gets spoken. Regardless of the specifics, I think everyone agreed that
>the construction is a problem regardless simply due to how much area was lost in the process
>the zones and badge-in/exit were poorly handled and placed
>even though we gained more room with figueroa being closed up for the venue it was pointless because shit was shoved everywhere into it anyway
>moving the second floor panel lines to the front between south and west gate entrances didnt make this any better
>i could go for a while on the handling of artist alley, we all know this was atrocious
>ADA being let in a few minutes before general attendees not being done genuinely is a problem for safety, i have no idea why they kept letting everyone in at the same time when they're supposed to send in ADA first
I can blame AX for poor handling of the space they're given, and overselling given the current state of the convention's space, and I can blame them for handling the line shit so poorly for second floor affairs because I essentially was a stand-in volunteer with how many redirections I gave to attendees to find the lines.

I could have proposed some solutions since I did have some time to think about it and the cost involved given my background, but ultimately I couldn't make it to the feedback panel anyway and people probably bitched enough as it is about all this.

I got it mainly because that specific comic is an old injoke between me and my normalfag friends from highschool. While it would've been super based something petty like that wouldn't change anything fundamental when they're selling more tickets each year than before. Third party security watches the cameras (Poorly. Its literally anyone with a pulse), and if they didn't catch you setting up they would know its you the moment one of the wandering spja staff noticed something changed. If you saw a tall white dude in a tan suit wandering around between off access areas like ax dance and l21 hes one of the heads of spja. Nothing would change unless you convinced that board of people that whats wrong now isn't a poor financial decision when its clearly making line go up for them

the third party is AUS and its insurance reasons security is hired. zero other reasons. they cant and wont do shit.

Gone every year for over a decade and this was the only time Ive been unable to get into AA fully. Straight wasnt worth it. And main hall being half closed so the congestion felt even worse and felt like I paid more for less. The line to get in and out was confusing as fuck and the beer garden was smaller too. Last year was the best year they have had so this year felt especially shitty in comparison.

>>10973435
>Last year was the best year they have had
Hold your horses on that one, you know that's not true, id say 2014-2017 is where i considered it to be great, but seeing as I went for game related affairs it was also declining each year until i stopped after 2018 and returned in 2024. Unless its specifically handling the flow of people which even then wasn't perfect but still better than usual, then I'll have to disagree with you on 2025 being the best. 2024 was abysmal in my eyes because it was all gacha and vtubers and I cant stand both.

I’m pretty much with everyone else in this thread, the amount of vtumors & corporate consoomer junk has reached new heights at Ax. If I wasn’t local to SoCal I wouldn’t even bother attending anymore. I pity those who travel from abroad to attend. Regardless though it’s a good year to be a Ghost in the Shell fan, the premier was great except for the banshee of a woman on the mic trying to hype the crowd up nonstop. Chobits was the first anime exposure I ever had and every time I see a cosplay of her I smile a little. My mom bought the old dark horse omnibooks back in the day thinking it would be a good read and keep me busy and not realizing what it was. I was like 6 or something at the time. If only she knew what disaster she brought onto me because yeah I'd say it kept me busy alright. It is absolutely no surprise I'm a turbo degenerate now. Even to this day I have no idea where she got it, or how she determined it would be a good thing for me given how little I read to begin with.

Cosplay that took a few days to put together: 10 people recognized it
Cosplay that took three weeks to make: 6 people recognize it
Cosplay that was made the morning of the last day: Convention wide recognition, photos and videos shared online, stopped for five minutes at a time taking photos

I guess a good ideza beats nostalgia

I was confused why this random retro game booth had a Saba standee to begin with kek
>>
>>10973496
its okay buddy, i appreciate what you do and what you did even if i didnt see you or recognize it. we're too busy trying to fight the crowds and get where we need to go
the fact you got any comments at all tells me you did good stuff. whatever it was, you will have more respect from me than the foid that did the serious hat basedjak cosplay or those shitty elastic bodysuits everyone loves to use
>>
>>10973489
the demographic of the customer base, not the girls. it's like the difference between target and walmart.
>>
>>10973496
This is always how it works. You can spend months on something and maybe get a crisp high five but roll some shit out of your closet and get nonstop photos.
>>
>>10973496
i guess if you're trying to grow your social media quantity matters more than quality, but like isn't the interaction with the few people who recognize your obscure cosplay usually a hundred times better than people going "yoooooo broooooo lemme take a pic while spilling my drink all over your foot"
that's kind of how comiket is. with people trying to find the most obscure memes to recreate and make friends and then giving out their card to people they like. like this >>10973469

Trust me, I know that cosplaying obscure characters is how you find people who actually like what you like.
>but like isn't the interaction with the few people who recognize your obscure cosplay usually a hundred times better
In reality? Not really. Most of the time it's "wow, I haven't seen that in a long time". I do it for the love of the game, but recognition for your effort is a universally appreciated thing. I haven't cosplayed any hyper-popular things simply because I haven't liked any enough to spend weeks staying up until two in the morning sewing a costume for it.

I also tend not to make friends at these events, but that's me being a weird hermit more than anything else.

>I also tend not to make friends at these events, but that's me being a weird hermit more than anything else.
While i hesitate to say "make friends", every friend ive met is a degenerate but presents as a normal sfw loving person. i prefer the other approach where i make it clear what youre getting into before you commit to it because that way theres no surprises. some people are chill and fun, some people are insane and should be avoided. personally i just hope everyone has a good time

What was up with all the AI usage in the con? Why were artists vetted so hard only for vendors and food shit and panelists allowed to use slop? I doubt it was about money this time.

people who care about not using AI = No AI
People who DONT care about not using AI = AI

It's very simple
>>
>>10973522
japanese companies don't want you selling ai art of their characters. they will pullout and go somewhere else like anyc if they saw that travesty. in the same way if you don't like ai you have the option of avoiding those stalls and companies.
americans are just less effective at boycotting fried lard and lame panels and chinese plastic junk.

Is AX Chibi worth checking out?
>>
>>10973531
does it have chibi lines?
>>
>>10973531
last year it was very relaxed and more like old ALA tier. Had some decent guests as well.

Pedophiles. I mean, there are people within that community who have harassed literal minors. Like actual minors.
>>
>>10973413
Anime Los Angeles is basically identical to what Anime Expo was in 2007.
>>
any sango cosplay?
>>
>>10973522
Not everyone cares as much about AI as you, anon.
>>
>>10973552
im not bothered by it i just think its kinda bullshit that the con vets the artists in artist elley to make sure no slop is there, but they look away and dont care for the rest
>>
>>10973541
over spinning toys?? I just started getting into beyblade again as well. damn it.
>>
>>10973496
me in my red dragon keeper cosplay, one person recognized it and i explained it to two homelander cosplayers, granted the second was really nice and added me back though
>>
>>10973557
have any pics? I love that manga.
>>
>>10973553
it doesn't make sense to you that the people selling art directly should be vetted against direct AI usage but the people selling dubai labubu skibidi chocolate don't necessarily need to be? AI usage is trashy but it is technically what people want.
>>
>>10973567
it doesnt make sense because both should adhere to the same rules or not have the rules at all. if artists are forbidden from selling or having a booth if they use ai slop and have portfolio review to ensure it meets this requirement, but ai slop vendors dont even get challenged on it, then why have the rule at all?
not like it matters anyway the artist alley was so small this year it may as well have been replaced with all ai slop vendors anyway
>>
>>10973456
You and me both lol, I hope to attend cons out of state soon though, preferably in the PNW or Midwest region.
>>
>>10973550
This but with a more competent staff. Holy shit, I don't know if anyone knows how bad of a fuck up 2007 was.

>>10973551
I saw one but didn't get to take a pic.

In this shitty new world, we don't have much of a choice but to make compromises and I will have to begrudgingly be happy that none of that shit gets inside AA.

i like cold rainy weather. washington or oregon might be my best in slot but only because its the least stupid migration choice.

>>10973572

thats underselling it but i understand. honestly i just wonder if i should just give up and sell ai slop at a buck a pack on the spot and call it a day. not as a vendor but as a wandering slop salesman

Monkeys paw if I’ve ever seen one.

>>10973586
I honestly respect the LADS cosplayers more than military veterans with what they had to go through that weekend with the level of composure that they kept up.

Just do facebook AIslop commissions for boomers and screenprint it onto shirts. Saw so many boomers wearing shirts like that at the airport.

those loser failed models have so much plastic surgery and prosthetics that they can't even move their face. that's why they wear the masks. just think about what type of employment situation you would have to be in where you would take a job like that? i'm sure they had a fun time groping american women that are definitely out of their league financially.
>>
>>10973604
>out of their league financially
that isn't a thing, but sure whatever makes you feel better
>>
>>10973604
theres not a single woman who met with those faggot prostitutes at LADS werent on a higher level then. You dont even have to be gay to realize those fags were hot.
But they def take it up the ass by korean fat men 99% of the time.
>>
>>10973605
no one cares if you have a six pack if your job is underemployed convention booth model. they're just fawning over cosplayers for a day, but irl a dude with no actual skills from a borderline third world country and saddled with plastic surgery debt is not appealing whatsoever.
>>10973608
realistically they're probably all gay and some old man's boytoy. you don't get that much plastic surgery and work out every day to appeal to women.

Beauty and finances are separate things. And yes they do in fact care
>>
>>10973504
A big part of it is that a more casual-looking cosplay with some humor has a lower barrier to approach and even can be an ice breaker. On July 4th (pre-COVID), I just wore an American flag shirt and sunglasses and got more photos than the prior 5 years of cosplay combined.
>>
why isn't there a second huge LA con every year like how comiket has two? why doesn't chibi take off. it seems weird that there isn't demand to do this twice a year.
>>
>>10973679
not sure if you know this but LA is expensive and sucks ass. im local and i despise this area enough that i hit my quota just going to anime expo on its own, god forbid i actually need to go to the heart of LA for some reason
>>
>>10973681
there's like an anime convention every other weekend in LA alone. they cost just as much as ax but way less people go because they don't have the things that ax does. it sucks that your finances wouldn't allow it but for most people a second weekend of ax a year wouldn't break their wallet.
>>
>>10973679
In what way? ALA is pretty big but a little less corporate. Anime Impulse is smaller and is around three times a year in different California cities.
>>
>>10973686
>In what way?
massive crowds attracting business interest, big stars, production staff, merch, and concerts. i'm the type that would fly to japan for anime japan to get that type of fix more than once a year.
>>
>>10973679
America is not Japan and our country is significantly more spread out. You aren't going to get AX attendance multiple times a year because people outside of the West Coast just can't afford to make it a multiple time trip. That's why it's better for their to be big cons throughout the country
>>
>>10973695
ax is like 95%+ locals attending. whenever it's asked in a panel if someone traveled from outside california less than that reply. people across america aren't even traveling regardless. 120k might not be possible but something like 100k certainly is. anyway the first anyc numbers were abysmal in comparison, like 20k with huge guests and industry support. smaller than ALA. so it's certainly not a inclusiveness to the US issue
>That's why it's better for their to be big cons throughout the country
you can have your small local cons, but i would like for another of southern california's cons to turn big. i don't think these things are mutually exclusive.
