>Animaga - did you enjoy the idols?
>A-MUSE announced as guests at Animayhem Brisbane
>Upcoming lives: Neonism and Patopi bar concept, Azusa grad, SeiPro two-man, Himizu one-man. Which one are you looking forward to?
>What idols have you been listening to recently?
>>
>>10969197
Animaga was pretty solid. There were some audio issues, but that didn’t really feel like the idols fault.

I keep forgetting Amuse is still around. I think they’ve been doing some K-pop stuff lately? I haven’t really kept up.

Not totally sure what’s going on with the 4qnq lives. It sounds like a mix of offkai and live shows? Could be interesting though.

Azusa graduating kind of hits. It’s sad to see them go, but I’ve actually been liking the Sunny and Coda duo more than I expected. Curious if Faeble will do more auditions.

Himizu hasn’t really clicked for me so far. I still like Kim more in Reveil. The group feels a bit too similar to others, and bringing back an old Ctrp song felt like baiting the pit.

For music, I’ve been listening to Lace’s single a bit, it’s pretty good. Love Chord’s is nice too, even if the mixing could’ve been better. Neonism coming back has been great, I’ve missed their original songs. Would be cool if they re-recorded stuff with the new lineup.

Why is it always j-idol stuff, and never k-idol?

Honest question, not trying to be mean, but are you guys into the frilly dresses and kawaii songs? I always thought k-pop idols seemed far more interesting.

I’m just trying to understand the appeal. Korean culture seems far more modern and up to date with current consumer expectations.

I don’t want to be a dick, but all these people seemed to be into a uniquely ugly aesthetic which I’m only reminded of when my weeb friends suggest going to a show or going to smash. It’s not just idol performances, but also the promotional material, and things outside of their work like cosplay, videos, and even games they develop. It all has this uniquely ugly lolita/kawaii aesthetic which I thought died out 2 decades ago, yet it’s still here.

Why can’t there be a k-idol scene where people have nice bodies, wear waist-high shorts, and perform songs with a beat that slaps with good vocals? It’s always this weird outdated 2006 deviantart vibe.

See picrel for that weird deviantart aesthetic vs more popular korean aesthetic.

Nice ragebait very entertaining desu
Take your nonsense to the actual kpop thread unnie
I'll see you there
>>
>>10969237
It'd be much easier to larp as a K-idol.
> Shave jawbone
> Don't bother learning to sing, you don't need it
> Shein haul
> Dance to AI noise track

Retarded take if genuine.
>>
>>10969240
>Doesn’t have an actual argument, labels it as ragebait and continues to make an ugly outfit with large belts and baggy pants

>>10969245
I naturally have a k-idol jawline, and even AI slop sounds better than the backing tracks for j-pop.

Also I don’t actually know what shein is. I’ve never been poor enough to actually look it up.
>>
Let's just not interact with the kpop weirdo

>>10969208
Big agree with a lot of this.

Feel like Sunny is a bit cursed with new gens at this point. Hopefully Sunny/Coda gen can maintain and exceed Faeble2 quality.

Reveil Kim > Himizu Kim. I hope they can balance the workloads but Kim been pushing Himizu.

Do we think Smash stage gunna be better than Animaga? Someone gotta fix those audio bugs that where everywhere.
>>
>>10969262
>Feel like Sunny is a bit cursed with new gens at this point. Hopefully Sunny/Coda gen can maintain and exceed Faeble2 quality.

For real, poor Sunny lmao. I feel like they will struggle for a bit as two but they have been pushing a new sound that I like more than what Gen 3 debuted with.

>Reveil Kim > Himizu Kim. I hope they can balance the workloads but Kim been pushing Himizu.
I have a feeling she's leaving. I don't see why Reveil would hold auditions otherwise.
>>
>>10969197
I only went Sunday. I wonder how they choose who gets their own set and who is in the Showcase?
The only set that was genuinely bad was Zero. She travelled interstate for that…
>>
>>10969237
Plastic surgery is too expensive down under, can't go full K without the look ya know?
>>
Did this thread disappear for a bit? Anyone have a link to the previous one
>>
>>10969306
Warosu.. and sage your shit.

>>10969273
Hard agree on Zero. That Aisola was hard to watch.
>>
>>10969268
Damn, but you right though. Himizu going hard on dedicated merch. I'd have prefers them be a once every so often group, always kinda cool to see idols go outside their group...

But means we're gunna get less Juju solo (which bangs) and possibly no Reveil Kim? Worst trade deal

Hopefully they can change my opinion with their live.
>>
Anyone got the context on Martin's latest tweet?

"In light of recent experiences. I will be enforcing new rules at events, and talking to all organisers to ensure that we are doing things to the same standard as other niche communities. (E.g. J-core/Aniraves).

Going forward, I will be rolling out zero-tolerence to any abusive, disrespectful behaviour from anyone in this scene. This applies to the performers too, inside and outside my company.

Staff, Producers, and other fellow performers in this scene are doing it for the love of the game at this point. Most people do not get a stipend either, so it's entirely for the love of the game at this point.

Of course context is sometimes important, but many of us, including me are doing this as volunteers, and we often don't see a single cent to our own name.

It's affected my mental health, and I have not been able to put my best foot forward at all.

It's disappointing, and nearly a decade into doing this stuff, I am disappointed that I have to act this way finally.

Onto a better future!!"

I actually agree with him here, I'm just nosey.
>>
>>10969425
I’ve seen that idol yell at Martin before, so I kinda get where he’s coming from.
>>
can the nonnie from last thread expand on the contract shit.

gathered which group it was about (cutie angels, formerly cutie angles)

and which member leaked it (stella) but what the fuck is going on.

so they've got all the chinese girls from a cosgroup and hina is running this with her boyfriend and plans to hold any money made and made all the girls sign contracts.

are they making money? why did only stella choose to leave? how many girls are in the group i've counted 5 so far?

kristy, nonsweet manager and a neonism member follow them so that's how the account was suggested to me and the self-posting in the last thread obvs.

i've never seen anything like this in the scene.

What does everyone think of the current state of Idols/Groups in Syd?

Feels empty but active at the same time.

Sunday is for the less popular acts or if they already had a set already on Saturday. So if you see them only once and it's on Sunday IE not in a group or solo, it's a pity slot
>>
>>10969699
I think the community has a bit of a sameness issue. Lots of groups have a similar vibe and they the ones getting shows. No showings at recent shows for some of the more alt sounding community makes it all sound samey
>>
>>10969883
And who do you consider “alt” in the community?

>>
>>10969237
The honest answer is that a few girls have tried, and the regular crowd doesn't enjoy it as much. Though, a bunch of jpop idols also have kpop crews. Members of (classic) Neonism, and also Etude, and maybe a few others I think still do perform in kpop meets.

No point now that azu is gone
>>
>>10970261
I don't always see him in a lot of idol events, doesn't look creepy to me.
>>
>>10969237
Because the intenational kpop community doesn't have a k-idol scene. It has a K-Dance Crew scene, where participants focus on accurately covering dance choreo without vocals. Which is cool on its own, but it's not really an idol scene that builds fans beyond supportive comments on youtube/insta posts. Even for the crews that do live shows, I haven't seen much audience interaction.
>>
>>10970427
That makes sense. Japanese stuff tends to have more of a dedicated audience. Everyone recognises popular characters from recent anime and manga, but a general audience won’t recognise any manhwa characters, even if the manhwa is widely read. Korean comics feel very ephemeral. I’ve read many, but hardly remember them at all. Meanwhile, I’ve never read Jujutsu Kaisen or Chainsaw Man, but I would recognise the characters anywhere. Even with gaming, Nier: Automata made much more of a cultural impact than Stellar Blade. Maybe for this reason you guys prefer j-idols, although I personally can’t get into j-idol music
>>
Personally I like both korean and japanese music in multiple genres, and both k-idols and j-idols and both countries have a pretty vibrant music scene. K-pop does actively promote itself internationally a lot more than the jpop industry. And because of that work kpop has grown a big fanbase overseas. But for whatever reason that fandom participation has focused almost entirely on recreating the choreo instead of the vocals from their favorites.
And it's not to say that jpop isn't without its share of generic slop. There are dozens and dozens of mid generic fluffy costume, simple bubbly love song j-idol groups out there that are invisible to the international audience.

Anyone going to smash! tomorrow in Sydney? I am too lazy to cosplay and am just going to enjoy the idol performances. I'll check the stores, hopefully they have the large manga store. Animaga stores were really bad. People selling print outs and other garbage.

I got there late. Only saw a couple idols, both Japanese. I can't remember the ladies mame but she sang the evangelion op. I thpught there would be a huge manga store but it was only a small display of mangas i didn't want. I wanted to look at the berserk deluxe editions irl to see how much i really want them.

Highlight was finally finding the itasha display. They were on the roof. They look so cool.
>>
>>10973537
Her voice sounds pretty familiar, but I can't quite put my finger on who it is. My best guess would be someone that performed in one of those groups that do LL covers only or something that appear like once a year. Based on the unboxing video, you can infer she is on the larger side, and since she gets out of breath from simply cutting sticky-tape, not fit enough to perform regularly.

Hope that helps to narrow it down.

We’ll never get any hot azu pics ever again, will we?

azusa. former sydney idol, used to be in citrus plus and then faeble

not really a lot going on lately in syd idol scene…
neonism is back but thats old news atp.

in new news i’ve seen this new idol called finny popping up on insta recently because she’s been following everyone thats into sydney idols. don’t think i’ve seen her attend shows irl tho. seems to have a background in music production and wants to perform irl so im keeping my eye on that

is anyone going to lili’s live this weekend? im excited to see ria again
>>
Thread is probably quiet because personal attacks are being rerouted to other channels, with much more serious consequences.

I'm quite certain that heads will continue to roll. Some of this is maybe deserved to a certain degree, but idk, I don't know enough of the background of most of this and I have significant doubts.

Feels like all I can do at this point is pray that me and the remaining people I care about will make it through in the end. Key perpetrators are among these people, so it's a difficult and stressful situation.
>>
>>10974717
Yeah I've seen Finny pop up as well. Interested in seeing how they progress, they seem to be targeting Eurobeat stuff as well, maybe they've seen Sunny or something at a show once. Tho, Euro is still popular.
>>10974721

i think whoever made that post probably has insider info. a lot of the stuff that has happened has been in private. a few people got banned from certain events for things they’ve done and im not commenting on if specific cases were deserved or not but they seem to be really buckling down on it

>>10974733
she seems cool, she seems to mainly site stuff like touhou eurobeat and initial-d for her eurobeat inspo (judging by posts + music she uses on her stories) so idk if she even knows about sunny. idk tho sunny seems to be getting way more popular lately
>>
>>10974737

There aren't a lot of managers in the community so it could only really allude to one or two.

Touhou euro is goated and under-appreciated, initial D is over-represented thoguh I think

im getting rlly sick if melb idols being snubbed for slots at our own conventions?? either we dont get a slot or they shove us all in showcase while sydney idols get multiple sets…
>>
>>10975019
unfortunately a lot of sydney idols seem to have better connections which is probably why. i do agree that it sucks, i feel like they should be prioritising local acts instead.
>>
>>10975019
Yeah neonism has two days and one of their members has a solo?
I don't even think they're that much better than Melbourne groups... do they have fan in Melbourne?
>>
>>10975019
How ironic it is that it always happens in a Melbourne convention, I guess no one wants to go to Adelaide, Brisbane or Perth
>>
>>10975019
Why is it specifically important to be performing at a convention?

Hanagasumi, Futago and Undead Online all have 1mans coming up in the space of a month, why not offer to open for one of those if you want to perform more? Busking is also an option if you want to get new people in or don't want to arrange a venue, but I don't think anyone has tried this.

I'm not denying your point, I'm just trying to understand where this sentiment is coming from. You must understand that Sydney idols have at least partially earned a spot through longer tenure and more activity on their resumes, what factor is it that balances against this for you guys?
>>
>>10975019
I travel a lot and have seen my fair share of both Sydney and Melbourne idols. Your local acts aren’t putting in even half the work of Sydney idols if we’re being honest. There’s a huge skill gap and nobody in Melbourne seems to want to put in the time to host regular lives so they can improve. You definitely can’t just expect a slot at cons when theres nothing on your resume. SMASH and Animaga are not entry level anymore.
Melbourne has a few standout performers, but they’re definitely not the ones coming here to complain.
>>
>>10975019
I forgot to mention in >>10975046
that there are two Melbourne idols with multiple slots - Fungi (Undead Online) and Wooly (Futago). So the implication that only Sydney acts get multiple slots is maybe a bit exaggerated, at least for Animaga this year
>>
>>10975047
lol hi martin, keep pushing ur agenda bro wwwww
>>
>>10975046
hi martin 2, keep pushing ur agenda as well wwww
>>
There are other avenues for your local groups if you feel like you are getting shafted. Have you tried running a group panel or contacting the organisers to book a panel room just for melbs idols to perform all day? I'm sure if every group put in like $100 each, you could probably book a venue and make up the rest with cheki sales and tickets. Don't rely on just conventions to be able to perform, especially if you want to seriously pursue idol as a hobby/job.
>>
>>10975050
Who's martin? Was he the creepy glasses guy at SMASH at the stage?
>>
>>10975060
martin is the guy who runs the SMASH stage and also he owns 4QNQ and does the sound at all their shows. idk about his character i’ve never actually talked to him but i've not heard the greatest things about him from here at least. he’s a shit sound guy tho i’ve never been to a gig with worse sound and more hiccups than a 4qnq idol show

>>
>>10975087
That someone is a stage coordinator at ozcc, who openly brags about it too.

This whole thread came back to life after they made that post so it seems suspicious.

They have a history of stirring the pot and making wild claims about people so I wouldn't really trust whatever they write. They recently attacked another idol at an event they hosted as well.

They also according to themselves in that post you mentioned, got their slot cancelled for harrassment accusations.
Strange how little literacy anons have these days. They didnt even post any proof or anything concrete as evidence.

Clearly crashed out at losing a slot over breaking some rules.

Its all clearly a smear campaign against a competitor. A great idea with zero legal consequences LMFAO.

Cant they can just give themselves a performance slot at their own convention they work for and be happy there?
Just like how they gave themselves an idol panel in Brisbane.

Last week I only saw Wooly, in Canberra, and the stage was packed, so I don't understand why the rest of you guys didn't perform there? Afaik anyone could have applied right? Then so why did nobody go there?

4qnq doesnt even run events in Melbourne regularly, like once a year at most.

I have a feeling when the truth comes out its going to be a day of reckoning for the Melbourne idol comm sadly...

Well it was a good run.

We want to complain and not get better. Its all we've been good at desu. Its time we look at ourselves first, because we get mogged by Sydney and Brisbane all the time even objectively...

why is there so much in fighting in the idol scene. aus music scene in general doesn’t have that problem…

i would like it if we could one day be treated as a genuine part of the music scene but idk if that would be possible with all the toxicity and drama that goes around.

i wish everyone would see each other as equals with something each to offer instead of seeing everyone else as “competition”
>>
>>10975104
I think there's a low tolerance for wrongdoing that comes from cosplay culture, we were discussing this on the main kaigai idol thread recently. The more combative aspects of representation and gender equality tend to leak into other spheres, you can't expect people to turn this energy on and off like a lightswitch.

Another possible difference between us and the general music scene is a tension between an "everyone supports everyone" culture and the small pool of events that idols seem to clamor over, which necessarily concentrates both power and attention onto hosts. Most if not all of the posts claiming to identify Martin on 4chan aren't correct, but it's hard to blame people when he has such a history of publically fighting with people, based on his twitter alone if nothing else.

Above all though, be careful of romanticising something that doesn't exist. Remember that 4chan is basically intended for negative discussion, go look at every other board and thread. People are pretty normal in person
>>
>>10975104

I’m back.

They’re only regularly performing in a university campus hangout spot so the audience are befuddled normies and the anime club, and their online presence is nowhere near where it needs to be to rake in cash, so the answer is very likely no. I reckon that an indicator that they made decent profit would be uniform upgrades/changes considering they wear the exact same thing each performance.

Do those girls look like they’re out in the workforce lol. There’s a new one that hasn’t had the same promo as the other girls feelsbadman.

oz comic con sydney is happening in a couple weeks, are there any idols you guys are hoping to see there?

>>
>>10975104
The music scene is not really comparable because that is made of bands and producers making new music with the intent to get paid sometime. The focus is on the music itself or the aesthetic presentation of said music but not so much on personality except in extreme cases.

Idols on the other hand are primarily personality and identity driven. Your brand and face as an idol is as important as the music you perform. Maybe even more important, since most idols are covering the same stable of songs instead of producing new works. It's an environment of girls living out their dreams to "shine bright" on stage instead of some songwriter trying to make a heartfelt statement about themselves or their lives. Because the idol scene is so heavy on personality there is a lot of ego investment and because the participants skew younger you end up with a lot of schoolyard tier acts of gossip and rumormongering by the same people espousing a rainbows and ponies community culture in public.

It's not like the music scene doesn't have bands with infighting and implosions and break ups but that's all intra-group conflict instead of inter-group conflict.
