hihihi /cgl/, just here to get some thoughts down ^-^

im waiting for a haruhi cosplay to arrive, but im kinda worried i wont look as cute as the other cosplayers i see on tiktok and elsewhere on the net. im sure this is a common thought, but its a big one nonetheless. i guess it sorta leans into my sense of imposter syndrome - i dont think confidence suits me at all. i think that the second someone looks at me in cosplay theyll know im faking something.

when it all arrives i may post some pics here so yall can lmk what u think ^p^

any thoughts or similar experiences ?

a lot of their pics and vids are edited or gone through filters OP. Don't worry about it.

I respect all Haruhi cosplays.

You gotta get that Hare Hare Yukai going.

I relate a lot. My first cosplays were objectively straight trash. Paired with the fact that I cosplayed a niche fandom and am a 4/10 on a good day, I got no attention and i just became the cameraman for people who wanted to take pics with my gorgeous friend.

My advice:
- practice your makeup, figure out how to get it to last and not be cakey, what works for your facial features. Contacts are a good investment. Even if your eyes are the same colour, enlarging contacts can tie a look together
- iron or alter the cosplay once it arrives. 99% chance it won’t fit perfectly and even just using a basic pin to tighten the skirt or wtv to fit you better can make it look much more polished
- you will probably mess up your first wig. It took me 3 to finally kinda get what i was doing.

Good luck anon and good choice of character!

Honestly, in my experiences in this community, shady sellers are something you come across every day not only online but also in person. A lot of conventions often have a few booths with nothing but bootlegged merch they sell out in the open with no care in the quality of the products. However, online sellers are a bit more shady as often times, they'll advertise something as being one size but it doesn't seem to fit when you first try it on. Modding the cosplay could work as a lot of cosplayers will often do that when they get a cosplay online as some pieces might not be the right size or very shoddy in quality. I'm not a cosplayer myself but I've had experiences chatting with cosplayers when it comes to trying to find cosplays online and often or not, the red flags are definitely going to be most of the Amazon cosplay sellers if you bought from there. Anyways, good luck, Haruhi anon. If we do meet at a con, I'll thank you there for doing the Hare Hare Yukai if you do it.
