The head stepped down a few years ago as far as I remember. There was some drama with her, and she wasn't even allowed to model last year due to this. I'm not sure who the new head is.
But Tekko isn't amazing as a fashion con. The swap is okay, but it's always announced late and you have nasty people touching your brand and complaining about sizing. I might be in the minority but I never gaf about brand guests or modeling, either.

I will not say what department I am currently in, but I have overseen multiple. The biggest issues are the President and the Sales Director. They are husband and wife and create a ton of nepotism issues. The Sales Director, in particular, is also racist and does raceplay porn. They also micromanage everyone in leadership, which defeats the purpose of having leadership. They make working for Tekko miserable. And yes, contrary to what they love to push, it is WORK to be at Tekko, not just volunteering. Hypocritical.

J and K are married. J is also dating second J (Vendors). No one on staff is sleeping with merch lady (E). Current and past vendor ladies are second J and K. That's all the possible causes of "nepotism issues" from higher level staff. No other department heads and board members are involved with each other like you're making it out to be.

I was a supervisor for several years, then a department head for several. I will say, I did step down because it is actual unpaid work and I was treated like shit by ugly, white, cis men in high level positions (which narrows it down quite a bit surprisingly). I work for a vendor now, and actually get paid a very good wage to be at Tekko, so my experience is much more enjoyable. I do still hear about ALL the drama since I'm in all the groups, discords, and am friends with some regular volunteers who fill me in.

Believe it or not, the board is supposed to manage the departments to make sure things are getting done. Micromanaging isn't good, but I can tell you from experience that Tekko has some of the laziest, most inept heads and volunteers I've seen at any convention I've been to outside of Nostalgia Conventions (Colossalcon, CCE, and Ichi in particular. Can't speak to the others but it's all the same damn people). Maybe things have changes since I stepped down years ago, but it was like that before I was a volunteer and during, so I assume it's the same now. Maybe they needed to micromanage you cause you were also lazy.

Tekko used to be pretty good for Jfash (mostly lolita but whatever), but now it's geared toward weebs and the vendors I think. The game room has a good Japanese rhythm arcade setup, but the console games are all PS5s and PCs with only specific games on them. Super fucking lame imo. You're talking about Rhythm Pitt (Big Clapper's owner), a local, pretty much closed off club for rhythm gamers. They were here last year, but they got an additional truck this time. Psychic Drive (eyeball logo) brought the same amount as last year. Snow Phoenix brought the same as last year too. That's like 10-15 more cabs compared to last year, and I think it's organized better. There's a better speed running thing happening in the front of the room, but I've heard Aegis Gaming has goofed up most of their tournaments by either starting late or just not having enough participants. I don't think tabletop and TCG have changed significantly. I would say it's the same or better as last year, if you lump the whole room together.

I can't understand why Sangawa doesn't make a rave happen. They have a gambling parlor all weekend so why can't they find space or time for a rave?

It's free to join and free to play the games, but they're only open at most 3 days a week, and only during "events". You can't go at all to play any games outside of those times and you need to buzz their discord to be let in if the outside door downstairs is locked. So, it's "public", but it's really not.
