If you look at the attendance numbers it's actually doing better than ever in DC. Attendance was bleeding off in Maryland, but it's been increasing ever since 2022 in DC. They didn't release last year's numbers but 2024 had a record high of about 46,000 people.

Yeah, I'll be there Friday and Saturday. Thanks for reminding me to get my parking sorted early, since it was less than ideal doing it a couple days before the convention last year. That's why I drive in and avoid the metro. I use something like spothero to buy parking passes ahead of time, and it is less than $20 a day to park at one of the handful of garages around the Washington Post building. Some of them allow in/out too, so it just makes the whole thing easier. I doubt there will be any cheap spots open for this weekend, but maybe look into that for next year.
I always hated having to leave right as it felt like people were starting to hang out so that I could make the last train home, so that's why I drive in.

Even funnier since I ran into him 3 or 4 times. Really nice guy, though, and he showed me a booth with some cool Umineko art. Still, it was fun to see how many fans there were around.

I usually hate panels that focus on LE GAME AND ITS THEMES LET'S TALK ABOUT IT. But I attended the midnight Persona 3 talk on Saturday and my low expectations were well exceeded. One of the audience members during Q&A was very honest and shared that his friend is dying in the hospital and that the panel flooded back a lot of memories of his playtime, the panelist even had to get tissues out. Hope you're okay king.
Was just one of those many moments where you feel like you're a cringe faggot for liking or relating to something, but then you find many other people share similar sentiments and you don't feel so alone anymore.
I love cons. I am saddened I didn't attend cons sooner, I've only been attending Otakon specifically since 2022. I am a cynical person but all my prejudices drop when I walk inside the convention. I love all of you.

I was there too. I thought the presenter was perhaps gushing over the game a little too much which was fine but I wished he had touched upon the mental health topic a tad more. Was a decent panel nonetheless and was glad to attend. Also the speakers inside were mad bassy for some reason lol.

I was the same way, since I had missed her booth when I had walked through on my own. Not that it matters now, but she was almost all the way in the back left corner in a spot with two people in it. One of my buds bought some of the games too. That importer store is one of the only good booths in dealer hall, imo. I'm quite the same, really. My first convention was in '23 because I was a really antisocial guy who didn't want to go as I didn't have anyone to go with. That is one of the reasons why I try to wrangle gulls together when I do make it out to a con in case there are other people in the same position that I was. I don't know if I ever have, but I'd to imagine I can help someone out like that, since cons really are a lot more fun when you can shoot the shit about the stuff you love with people who also love it (or to people who are willing to listen to you.) I should have gone up to try and take a picture of all of the cars at once, but I guess I forgot. There were a good amount of cars this year, and they were more spaced out, which make viewing and shooting them a lot easier. (I also wasn't using a scuffed camera or shooting them with a 75mm lens this time)

I've dumped them elsewhere, so I won't post any more, but there was a good group of anon who met up this year. Around 10 or so. Unfortunately, there wasn't an opportunity to get everyone's in together for one group shot because of conflicting schedules, but here is a group shot of most.

I had a good con. It was definitely the busiest Ota I've had, since I had the most IRL friends and anon going that I wanted to meet up with, but I was able to manage. I feel a bit like I didn't get to spend an incredible amount of time with any one group, which was a little bit upsetting, but that is just how it goes sometimes.

Surely this is bait, but I'll bite since I am an autist that genuinely felt this for a while.
If you're planning on doing stuff purely online, join some of the convention groups. I don't have social media, but I'm told that there are facebook groups/discord servers centered around specific conventions or the regions they're in. Chat it them leading up to the con so they'll recognize your name and so you won't be a complete stranger at the con. There are usually open invitations to stuff like bar crawls or themed meets that get organized there as well. Go to those and be friendly with the people. A lot of hosts will use those to filter strangers to invite to later room parties and events.
Your other option is to, simply, talk to people at the convention. See a cosplay you like? Compliment them and talk about the series if they're willing to hang around for a bit. If you're getting along, it is easy to ask what they're doing once night hits. Hotel lobbies are good for this.
With enough of this, you'll have a small net of people that you're in contact with and, chances are, they'll be at other conventions too. Congrats, you've made con friends and you're well on your way to hosting your own parties/dinner. Shit isn't difficult, but it won't happen on its own.

I tried that but as you can see from the disinterested grimace she wasn't very eager to speak to humans.
Probably didn't even know the character she was dressed as. Fucking bitch. That's the last time I try to be friendly. Like why even cosplay if you don't want anyone to ask for photos? I'm sticking to approaching regular shirt wearers from now on.

I'll try those shady online groups you mentioned. I forget it's considered the standard to go online first before ever thinking about attempting real life meetups. Must be why everyone is weird as fuck nowadays.

Online is just the easiest, but it is still just a filter. Of the people I met at the con, half were a group that I just met at a bar during a convention and we hit it off talking about visual novels.

Well, had my bags checked each time I went through. I suspect it was my camera that was giving them trouble, but one of the guys specifically asked if I had any glasses cases (which I did) so who knows what exactly those metal detectors were flagging. What I do know is that the man said nothing at all about the full glass bottle of liquor in my water bottle holder (he checked my bags with it like picrel) so I highly suspect they were told just to search for anything metal and not anything that broke the rules. People I know did walk through with metal water bottles too

I went with some friends and had a good time even when we wernt around eachother. There were a couple of decent vendors this year and I was able to bulk up my soundtrack collection. Also think this is the connection where I found the most interesting panels and had to pick and choose between the ones I go to for the first time. Definitely going to try to make this a reoccurring trip since I live pretty far out

the Dorohedoro photoshoot was some of the most fun I've ever had at an Ota photoshoot, especially since we moved to DC. I would have taken more pics but you can't see shit in these things.

the Delicious in Dungeon photoshoot was ass, way too dark, the announcer's mic was too quiet.
