Talking to people at the con usually. Sometimes they get posted on various forms of social media or are in a hotel lobby, but just talking to people is the best way to know. I'll scope around the con and post back any parties I find out about.

Either you go to the party and listen to music and drink, or you go back to your hotel and listen to traffic, and probably also ecery single room party going on around you. Never did I say they were equal, or was I equating them. The most common complaint with parties are the noise they generate, but you aren't getting silence in NYC anyways.

Also cars can absolutely be parties. Just perhaps only on road takeovers or at car meets.

Again, if you want quiet or silence, feel absolutely free to go back to your hotel just invest in earplugs or a good set of noise cancelling headphones. We probably don't want you at the party anyway.

If the time of year was the only thing that made the con cool and unique, then it really wasn't all that cool and unique. Summer is con season, and if they are all similar than you can just go to one and call it good. I could not go to otacon or AX, but I can go to ANYC so that's the big con I will go to. It might have been more fun in fall because it was smaller, but just go to a smaller local con that is happening in the fall if that is what you want.

Going Saturday since I'm local-ish and it's kind of fun. I don't really have any big plans except walking around and enjoying the atmosphere.

Haven't done an NYC con in years but it's fucking wild that I haven't seen a single CD guy yet. Nowhere in the fucking city, and not outside the convention halls.
The only guys there are the pass guys who aren't technically running a scam.

I get around. I'm more of a /jp/sie than a gull, but I lurk /cgl/ con threads.

That being said, this con was pretty disappointing. There were really not many people with a true otaku soul here, but it's what I get for expecting anything out of such a normie-coded convention. Most of the after parties were so bad, I only really heard good things about the sonicboombox rave, but it was naturally sold out. I had more fun just chilling and drinking in the AirBnB with some of my /jp/ homies than anything else. Idk if I actually met any gulls here, but /cgl/ is so dead that's not too surprising.

I also kinda forgot the check this thread since one of the anons said he would give us the heat on the afterparties, but it seems he didn't deliver so not really worth getting too beat up over.

I'll probably not come back to ANYC again, but I would say it was still worth coming out to hang with the people I did meet. Next time I'll probably prioritize otakon or AWA if I want to come to an east coast convention.

Maybe I've gotten too good at looking naturalized (the only time I broke character was to shout "ONE SIDE FUCKING MOVE!" when all traffic just stopped outside the convention hall for a minute since I was having kitchen staff flashbacks) but I didn't really notice any.
Just the badge guys and that was it outside the convention hall.
In NYC in general it was just the bootleggers and the photo op guys. I did actually see a CD guy today, but it was a bunch of fat fucks sitting in chairs, so they couldn't even properly harass me (or anyone else).

Tbf though, I spent most of Saturday in that fucking Junko Takeuchi line, and then had to run from that to the Hundred Line meetup, and I completely skipped Sunday.

I had fun though. Maybe I'm more easily amused but, coming from a very repressive upbringing, it's just nice to see fans of things. A lot of shallow fucks in the artist alley (I'm sure all these people drawing JJK and Demon Slayer really do love it and aren't trying to make easy money off normalfags) and the booths are corporate bullshit, but I like running into the niche artists and cosplayers. Way too shy to talk to them for more than a minute though.
Generally if I meet even one person who likes a thing I like for genuine reasons, I consider the convention a good time.

Can vouch for otakon, the otaku spirit is strong there and the panels are consistently great. ANYC suffers from the same issue of AX where it's overly corporate, so it's only worth going to one for a day if you want to see certain vendors like Mangagamer and JAST that don't go to other cons, and panels outside of industry ones are just meh.

anyc is an actual scam, you could go to two better cons for less money than one 4 day there

Honestly, I think most people did it because there seemed to be barely any security. I knew there was cameras but I didn't think it was that well fortified.

This was also a con that got flooded due to the Kagurabachi world tour, and it's one of the few big cons that situates all the vendors in one hall. Plus, I saw way more staff/artists departing their stalls compared to past years.
