Any cosplay con controversies in your country?

>Major cosplay and anime con in my country benefitted from being free and a cheaper alternative (if they have an entrance fee) to major cosplay cons to the public and for local idols and merchants who make and sell anime merch.

>They organize 1 to 2 anime cons almost every month.

>In these last few months, one of their major cons kept being canceled at the last minute(by the organizers themselves and not the chosen venue owners), angering everyone including the local idols and guests.

>After that, the online sites of the con goes dead and many rumors and complaints appear, where the idols and local merchants complain the cons has not paid and given them refunds, their single cafe and merchandise store in a single mall shut down only after a year and the head organizer being in deep debt and has now fled the country as a result.

Every con is "killed by controversy" according to the hate mobs, even when they keep soldiering on for years. Really the closest thing I know is the disastrous Holiday Matsuri 23. The one where three dumb kids blacking out turned into a plot where the Joker tainted the water supply. People are getting over it finally, like they always, but it still took a dive in attendance in 24

American anime cons got mostly 1 shot by 2016 elections, as an oldfag you have no idea the hate I have missing the 2008-2014 scenes where you just had the "weird nerd event" but everyone could make jokes without fears of being cancelled or have shit stired.

Sure. The quickest run down is
>Social media snowball effect
The more detailed explanation
>Three college kids get drunk
>Don't know their limits
>They pass out in public areas
>Panic ensues
>Ambulances and police pull up
>The rumor opens and spreads in real time
>Sight of someone fainted turns into "someone died"
>Three people fainting turned into "Hundreds"
>Instagram crowd starts saying it was a "mass roofy event"
>"A Miles Morales was seen touching water coolers"
>Demands for police to investigate further
>Find nothing
>Lack of proof becomes "proof there's a coverup"
To prove how total BS this was, I got the police report. It was open and shut in 20 minutes
