That's what makes Peoria so notable is its lack of notability. The famous phrase in Marketing of "Will it Play in Peoria" is exactly noting to that fact.
Peoria Illinois isn't some trashy ghetto, it's not some quirky arts town with a main street that's got some unique characteristic.
It's the most Middle American city in America.
