What went so fucking wrong? They had the name the look, the authentic Italian gimmick. Why didn’t they make it?
>>22037500they weren't very good
>>22037500YAG
>>22037500What do you mean? They are in pretty much every mall in the US and in 28 countries. Do you mean why didn't they get as big as Pizza Hut/Dominos/LC? They had a different business plan.
>>22037500I love finding one of these in a random airport terminal, it's a guilty pleasure.
They existed in highway truck stops primarily, but were pretty good in the 90s. Needed more local neighborhood spots like the major pizza chains. If anyone remembers the soda they carried, please let me know. They were glass bottles with an aluminum foil wrapped around the neck. Looked similar to Squirt glass bottles.
>>22037500They loved being the cornerstone of dirtmall food courts. Hard to make sales when the mall doesn't have any customers.
>>22037500dave portnoy happened>3.2
>>22037514It was Slice soda
>>22037506What?
>>22037511South street? Place used to be great now it sucks.
>>22037528I dont think so...this is what the bottle looked like...and like I said it was glass, and had a fancy aluminum foil neck cover.
>>22037537Only thing close I can find are these.
>>22037544HOLY FUCK YES. THANK YOU.
>>22037521retard, no one gives a fuck about Portnoy.
>>22037507I used to see them around a lot more, and I never see ads for them etc
Malls didn't make it.
>>22037586plus it seemed like the general consensus about Sbarro is that the quality is kinda bad to just okay. for as long as I can remember at least. I’ve never heard of them doing delivery either, even through the apps. it’s just some mediocre food you grab after you’re done shopping in a shopping centre. So yeah their business is not gonna be booming in this climate.
>>22037531
>>22037534Believe so, and dang that's one less reason to go to Philadelphia.
>>22037500People don’t go to the mall anymore. They are starting to have more free standing shops with delivery no though. But the name is hard to pronounce and it confuses people
>>22037500What fucking happened, bros, they had the look, the itialian gimmick.... everyting
>>22037500private equity
>>22037503>fucking garlic bread>bread with pasta>pasta not mixed properly with the sauce>huge fucking meatballs with pasta>overcooked pastaNothing about this shit is Italian.Penal colonies were a mistake.
I grew up in a small town in the Midwest in the 90's, so we really didn't have any "NY Style" pizza around. We had a Pizza Hut and a local place that was terrible. When we would drive to the mall, I always thought Sbarros was so good because it was crispy, cheesy and just tasted better than Pizza Hut and whatever frozen pizza I had.
>>22037500>only open stores in malls and train stations>nobody goes to malls anymore and most americans dont use public transitgee i wonder why
>>22037500>Expand and grow too fast from early success.>Lose control of the quality of the food.>People stop buying the food.>Have to close stores to keep from going under.Happens all the time. Mismanagement sucks.
>>22037586>Malls didn't make it.Malls were targeted. Third places have been removed so that you're more prone to spend money on idle purchases or just to be somewhere.
>not making your own pizzaIt's such a fucking easy thing to make at home
They went downhill after the self unaliver bombing at a Sbarro in Israel in like 2004. The brand never recovered.
>>22038971You have a 800 degree oven?
>>22039002NY style pizza isn't cooked at 800. Most run at 525-550 which home ovens can do.
>>22037960Watching the Sopranos doesn't make you Italian anon
>>22038962Right. It's all part of a vast conspiracy, totally done on purpose. Because people spending money in shopping malls were very frugal and purpose driven.
>>22038403I get it. They were good in comparison to the few shitty options you had. Now that you've seen the world and eaten more pizza you realize Sbarro was never "all that".
>>22037500decent ny style pizza is pretty common in most of america.sbarro can only exist in a captive setting like a mall or an airport
>>22037667There it is, now I can leave the thread, thank you anon.
>>22039097>Watching the Sopranos doesn't make you Italian anonNo, of course not, which is why we hate Amerisharts claiming to be Italian even if they don't speak the language and know nothing about the culture.
