Grim. Memorial Day would have been a pretty great day to let it die.
>>22038736and yet you come crawling back
>>22038747Ive been making these threads for years at this point.
>>22038777ok and?that has nothing to do with my postyou say it should have died yet here you are?
>>22038787I never left. It was my thread that died. I'm here in memoriam.
>>22038789thats not how your post reads>Memorial Day would have been a pretty great day to let it die.i took "it" to mean the general.if thats true then you want the general to die. but if thats true then why come back if you dont want it to exist?
>>22038794>why come backI never left. Old tab is still up, got a notification for this one Are you autistic or australian?
>>22038802well lets just say im sipping some west java at 9:39amlots of acidic fruit in this one
>>22038830I've been ripping some comfort roast lattes through the ikape. Probably the ideal use for it. Washed guat and a sun dried natural from el salvador. Tons of brown sugar, caramel etc. Flipped 2 kilos of it to the guy I sold the kinu to as well.
>>22038838can i get a more in focus picture of those beans they look pretty evendo you think this west java would be good through the ikape?also ive been thinking if i should move on from focusing on grind size with it and instead lower my dose to 17/17.5 which is what i found worked best with my previous basket(straight walled 18g)how much do you dose yours with(granted yours is the shallower version iirc)
>>22038845I think its the perfect basket for the (moka) coffees you buy. The 58-46-40 stepdown I posted at the beginning of last thread is allegedly a bit better for my usual -lights but who knows. I still really like my original 2200 hole PCL basket.>dose yours withFucking 18g usually. You bought the big one, don't underdose. Fill that headspace up so theres some resistance when the puck swells.
>>22038859>for the (moka) coffees you buyill try to interpret that as not an insult ;)>don't underdose. Fill that headspace up so theres some resistance when the puck swells.okand thanks for the extra pic. :)
>>22038867Not an insult at all. I just don't think its the basket I'd reach for when pulling Duckrabbit OWushwush or anything else Standart would send. I'd still go high flow+909s. But who knows. I should probably put in an order for 32mm bottom papers this summer.
>>22038875>Not an insult at all.well usually when you bring up moka its an insult so just pattern recognition >I just don't think its the basket I'd reach for when pulling Duckrabbit OWushwush or anything else Standart would send.these days i wouldnt either. the way i choose to brew has imo changed alot since getting the hg1p as well as the v60. before everything would just get indiscriminately thrown into the moka(which gave results i liked even if it doesnt hold up to my current standards)also since i just dont really brew espresso with light roasted or "delicate" beansi just bought a few boxes of sibarist fast.you said to bulk order them last time i brought it up and it sounded retarded at the time but it was a good idea so i did it.and im using weber epf for top filters atm and have nothing specifically for bottom filters at the moment, mostly because i ran out + i dont know what to buy for the bottom of the ikape and if i would even like the result.i know it probably doesnt matter for top filters but the epf paper quality feels much lower than the 909
>>22038896Pretty sure epfs are just normal cafecs but I've never bought them.>quality feels much lower than the 909909s are actual filter paper. Not coffee industry bullshit.>Ahlstrom Grade 909 Medium Speed Wet-Strengthened Filter Paper. Wet-Strengthened Grades: Qualitative wet-strengthened grades are manufactured for applications using filter paper in a system or apparatus that operates under pressure or vacuum conditions. These systems require the use of extremely strong filter paper such as those in Ahlstrom's Binder Series. These grades contain a small amount of chemically stable, insoluble binding resin that strengthens the natural fiber-to-fiber bonds under wet conditions. Grades containing wood fibers or resins containing nitrogen, are not recommended for use in quantitative ashing techniques and in Kjeldahl estimations. Qualitative wet-strengthened filter papers are also used in industrial laboratories where technicians require a strong and economical filter paper with consistent quality and performance. Grade 909, 3.0 µm - Medium Speed. This medium flow rate qualitative wet-strengthened grade filter paper with very good retention is a tighter version of Ahlstrom 962. This grade has a rough surface and is often found in the food industry for routine tests.

>Last thread died before hitting bump limit and nobody made a new one until a whole day after.
>>22039160i technically did it twice in the last one and didnt want to do it in this one just incase i was cursed or jinxed it or something
hmmm im thinking... after dinner moka perhaps
Bought my mate a P2 and an Aeropress since he wanted to "get into coffee"Expecting he will never use either
>>22039650based knower
>>22039460I went to the store last night for milk and fresh apple fritters. Really leaning into the normie lattes. Another local store stopped carrying Fever Tree tonic water so I haven't been able to make my usual summer sprussy tonics :( I'll have to order a case or two soon.
>>22039859>apple fritters.i dont think ive ever had thatbut i did make some pear cake last week that was good.
how does someone even dial in or experiment with espresso machines without wasting tons of coffee or being hyped up on 800mg caffeine afterwards
>>22040091you waste alot of coffeeand then over time you just know generally where a grinder dial needs to belike a baker just knowing they have the right amount of flour, no measuring, they just look at it and know its right.any decently qualified barista should be able to dial in within 2-4 shots depending on how forgiving the beans are
>>22040087Its like a doughnut, but not a doughnut and also way better. Chunks of apple, cooked in cinnamon+sugar+vanilla, then battered fried and glazed.>>22040091Having a great grinder really fucking helps widen the range of whats "drinkable". You'll throw away time and money trying to pull shots with a timemore c3.
>>22040126yeh they dont make those herei looked online and the closest place that sells them is like 5 hours driveand thinking about it now australia doesnt really do deep fried food other than chips(fries)(traditionally at least, im sure the gradual americanisation over the last 40 years has introduced some "invasive dishes" that some younger people might mistake as being australian in origin)most of our cuisine is just baked or fried in a panbut they sound nice :)
I have a basic bitch Mr Coffee machine. Are there any objectionally good coffee machines that make coffee taste better?
>>22040765moccamaster
I have officially gone post 3rd wave and now intentionally brew my coffees to have significant bitterness. >>22040765Depends on how much you brew at a time. Only brew single cups? Just get a clever dripper or hario switch and be done with it. Doing 500ml+ batch brews? Quite a few options, Moccamaster, Bonavita, Breville to name a few.
>>22040829More of a entire pot kinda guy so 12 cup(whatever the actual measurement for that is).
i am currently drinking dandelion root coffee.verdict? tastes like dandelion, idk if these are roasted or not but the taste is bitter, it's not coffee but if you are delusional enough it still isn't too far off.tasty? no. horrible? no. it's drinkable, and it has a certain... bananey or fruity taste. with the right roast i think this could be pretty alright.but yeah, very very bitter.what is everyone elses experience?
>>22040829>I have officially gone post 3rd wave and now intentionally brew my coffees to have significant bitterness.ive been doing the same thing but with sour
>>22040871you should mix it with cascara and elder berry
>Eat banana chips>Drink coffee>Taste alcohol in coffee>Stop eating it goes awayTaste buds are funny man.
>>22040854>check prices on good drip machines>they've all gotten fucking expensive>the bonavita I got for $80 six years ago is now over $200The thermal carafe moccamaster is probably your best bet for a drip brewer. It's close to light commercial build quality so it will last forever if you take care of it. It has a significantly more powerful boiler and some level of water distribution over the grounds so that should noticeably improve the brews. But,>$400Have you considered a 12 cup bialetti moka pot? Would be way less expensive and get you a strong concentrate that you can use for mixed drinks or dilute down to drip brew level.
Brewed my first geisha ever and I can't get over the smellIt smells like flowers and perfume
>>22041014Coffee is supposed to taste like brown.
>>22041089coffee tastes like whatever you want it to
$12 thrift store espresso machine, missing the portafilter, it was really clogged but some straight vinegar fixed it right up, I thought my grind had turned the puck into hard cement because no water would come outI'm coming from a nespresso where I'm used to making long ass lungos with 5g capsules, this shit is really something else, you can make a long ass 15g 1:4 lungo and still get a thick ass consistency it's really nice

>>22042079at the end of the day a grim coffee is still a coffee.
Setup: Flair Classic, Timemore blackmirror nano scale So I have this issue and I haven't found anyone else with the same problem so I'm asking here. I've seen other people using the same setup with the scale on the driptray but as a timer. I use it as a scale to measure the output of espresso, but my problem is the scale is sensitive to the lever movement and it shows a variation on the weight as I go down with the lever not giving a precise measurement. I've tried changing to a more stable surface but the issue remains. Anyone else have this/have resolved it? sorry for esl
finally... coffee thread
>>22042557Raise your scale up over the legs. Put it on a little center stand.
