What is your take on savoury pancakes? Any good alternatives to okonomiyaki?

Love them. But I don't make them nearly as much as I would like to unfortunately. Try making some breton galettes au sarrasin (buckwheat pancakes). They're pretty tasty and you can pretty much add whatever you want to them.

i like basic ones with cheese and jalapenos, maybe a bunch of scrambled eggs and siracha sauce. pancakes are a nice way to use up eggs too.

oh! And how do you make them? What do you usually top them with?

You mix buckwheat flour and water at a ~1:1 ratio by volume (add a bit more water if you need to), and for every ~300g of flour you use you should add one egg. Add a pinch of salt and whisk thoroughly and you're good to go, cook it the same way you would cook a crepe, it should be nice and thin like the picture i posted earlier.

If you can't get buckwheat flour you can grind pieces of raw buckwheat in a coffee grinder or a high powered blender.

I usually just add some ham, cheese, a fried egg and some herbs and spices. But you could also use sausage, fish, roe, cream cheese, anything that would be tasty on toast would work. You can also top them off with sweet stuff (jam, peanut butter, etc.).

Indian cuisine has a lot of savoury pancakes. One I make often is Cheela, which is made with chickpea flour. You just mix chickpea flour and water into a batter then add any other ingredients like spinach, tomato, chilli, herbs and spices. Then you just fry it like a pancake.
Tastes great and very fast to make for breakfast

if you have chinese diaspora around you you can probably find jiangbing. basically a thin crepe stuffed with egg, scallion, pickles, chili and hoisin sauce, then rolled up and eaten on the go. really tasty

Solidly ‘ok’. Never had a savory crepe that impressed. Neither was it inedible or unenjoyable. I put it in the same tier as quiche, good once in a while.

Kimchi pancakes are very similar to okonomiyaki, and they're very flexible for ingredients. You can eat them with kewpie and bulldog sauce if you like

Here's a good recipe

Made a potato pancake a few weeks back. Served it with sausage gravy. Cheesy pancakes also another viable option. I have made corn bread waffles in the past
