What does /ck/ think of the Okinawan diet?

and before any bitch starts arguing with me about the constituents of their diet, read the fucking study
I will NOT be discussing with pedantic cunt arguing some No True Scotsman shit about what they REALLY ate in Okinawa
We have studies, and it's defined there. If you don't like it then fuck off

someone posted a long time ago about how okinawans eat like 70% of their body weight in sweet potatoes per day and i just want to know if that's true

It's not just the sweet potatoes, it's the sweet potato leaves (kandaba) they also eat daily.

>Often dubbed the "longevity vegetable," sweet potato leaves are highly nutrient-dense, packed with vitamins A, C, and B-complex, plus essential minerals like iron, calcium, and potassium.

They're super easy to grow and they produce tonnes of edible leaves and shoots as well as the tuber.
>>
terrible, they should be eating sticks of butter instead
>>
>>22043668
Food exclusivism and adherence to particular and strictly defined eating patterns is a sign of inner unhappiness and mental instability. All proponents of very specific and narrowly defined diets use vitriolic and charged emotion language.

Avoid anyone who promotes anything with the world diet in the name. People confidant in their beliefs dont try to sway others to believe the same.
>>
>>22043752
I wonder if there's a place that the average person can purchase sweet potato leaves.
>>

that, or they are of bad health and looking to improve it
I know they taught you humans are omnivores in school but that doesn't mean shoving everything into your gullet

The real Okinawan diet is to eat until you're 80% full and to stop eating short of satiety
>>
>>22043668
Okinawan culture doesn't really exist anymore, although it's a nice thought. Anything that we could consider an Oki diet today is that of suppressed and murdered people trying to survive on trash purely to avoid starvation.

Well yes and no
The earliest studies I can find goes back to 1949 which you could say is them living subsistence style after the war and then returning to standard grains, but Okinawan cuisine goes back WAY earlier than that and historically included Sweet potato, Goya, turmeric and other things that aren't that common across Japan.
In all likelihood they gradually changed their eating habits to be more in-line with the rest of Japan due to economic reasons

Before I even bother, are you suggesting that Japan didn't aggressively suppress Okinawan culture and commit atrocities against its people from the 1880s, and also that it wasn't the site of mass exploitation and devastation and murder during WWII resulting in the languages, culture and continuity of history of the native Okinawans being mostly destroyed?

If you don't think Japanese occupation or WWII happened that's fine. But if you do, you need to acknowledge that the current surviving state of Okinawan culture and food is younger than SPAM

I didn't see any links to any sources in your diet. I saw that you posted a meme, so I simply didn't read your blog post. I'm going to just take that as a no. Don't bother replying again because I'm going to hide your posts and replies since you've said nothing of any import or substance and you're just going to keep replying with cope since you refused to put any actual effort into one of the most important things in life which is nutrition research.

The most important part of diet is die. Please do.
>>
>>22043792
"They eat shitloads of pork" and "they eat a small amount of meat" are actually in disagreement with each other. They both can't be true.
>>
>>22045968
if they eat "small amounts of meat" at each meal, that can amount to "shitloads" of pork over the course of a year.
>>
>>22045974
Nobody would say eating a small amount of meat is a shitload because you used a random measurement of the total consumed in a year. OP was talking about percentage of calorie intake anyway.

I think that nutrition is largely a meme and longevity is mostly tied to genetics
>>
>>22046386
what if your genetics are such that a poor diet kills you at 40 but a good diet lets you live to 95
>>
>>22046393
That's not a thing
>>
>>22046399
if there are people whose genetics predispose them to high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular issues, etc, then yes they should take those factors into consideration when thinking about diet and nutrition, because eating the right things could very well help them just as eating the less right things could harm them.
your genes even determine how well your body processes things like sugar, salt, cholesterol, alcohol... everyone has a different liver, different kidneys, etc. if you are more sensitive to alcohol, or dont process it as well, then avoiding alcohol could in fact prolong your life significantly, for example.
>>
>>22046405
So longevity is tied to genetics, we agree
Eating something when your body sucks at using it is not an example of a "poor" diet
A poor diet is when missing something your body needs and is actively hurting you
Or an abundance of something doing the same

If we eat the same amount of red meat and you get gout and I don't, we don't have a "poor diet", you have poor genetics
>>
>>22046411
and if we both eat a poor diet and i die first then i probably shouldve paid more attention to nutrition.
>>
>>22046413
But see, in your example the "poor diet" works fine for me as it doesn't kill me
So is it really a poor diet at all? Or just bad genetics?
>>
>>22043668
>>22043671
In simplest terms, it's a high carb low fat diet which is what has consistently been proven to be optimal for human health and longevity. There have been many many studies on the effects of such a diet and they're always positive.

Most people >>22043765 don't like the suggestion that they need to put thought and effort into their diet if they want to optimize their health but the reality is that what you eat and in what proportions you eat it is very important.

Traditional Okinawans didn't have to worry about this sort of thing because they just ate what was available and didn't have any other option. Today, we have the option of eating literally anything we want, any food from any corner of the world in any amount or combination we like. This is exactly why it's important to have
>particular and strictly defined eating patterns
because otherwise, odds are you'll end up like the average person following a standard Western diet: overweight and riddled with diseases and cancers.

Food is medicine and if you care about your health, you'll treat it as such.
>>
>>22043668
Okinawans are like the mexicans of Japan
