Beans
A couple of years ago I made this:http://www.grouprecipes.com/73215/arroz-de-tomate-e-feijao---rice-with-tomato-and-beans.htmlIt has become my favourite dish and I make it regularly. I spruce it up a bit though with a tbsp of tomato paste, thinly sliced smoked pork belly and some smoked hot paprika powder in addition to the cumin. I dont think I will ever get tired of this dish. Beans and rice are super nutritious and wholesome too, especially with some veggies thrown into the mix. One could probably live for years on nothing but this dish and be perfectly fine.

I became fallen for the current heirloom bean meme and ordered some from the darling of bean producers, Rancho Gordo. They're really good. The black beans are the best I've ever had.

Some of the best beans I've ever had were Puerto Rican. Nothing fancy, made by an acquaintance a long time ago. I tried finding a recipe but never could dial it in.

They're what beans should be. The bean flavor is incredible. It's like the difference between seafood from a good fish market and a supermarket seafood counter. Or buying farm fresh vegetables from the farmer versus supermarket vegetables. The flavor and texture hasn't been bred out of the beans.
