Has anyone here passed ServSafe for manager position? Basically I'm applying for my first big boy job. It will double my income. I did not go to college but I feel like my 17 years of experience in the restaurant industry counts for something, plus if I'm manager servsafe qualified it would help me chances even more.
Ive been looking at their online courses, then the test....its hundreds of dollars, I bought the book on ebay for hella cheap. They also offer in person classes/test. It all kinda confusing, but I'm determined to figure it out. Anyway. Umm any advice or whatever?
They are probably going to "train" you in how to be a jerk off low management twat. Don't forget where you came from, brother.

>>22045898well....what i didnt like was this position is over seeing a shit ton of dining, things over a huge area. I watched a video about the guy currently in charge and hes like "I very rarely cook" which...urked me, i wanna get in the muck. It seems like a lot which kinda scared me and im like...am i in over my head doing this. The money is so good though. Idk man, I'm between a rock and a hard place. I feel like its my only option.
lmao
I failed mine and never re took it
>>22045909Seems to me the best leaders do shit their own way, sometimes controversially or even eccentric. But.. that can also go pear shaped.
>>22045927what does go pear shaped mean?
>>22045890reddit /kitchenconfidential where you should ask
>>22045930Bad.
>>22045935ive never used reddit before but maybe i should based on all the garbage everyone on here is saying. This isnt a joke man, this is a huge deal that could be life changing in a good way for me.
>>22045890Its mostly common sense and memorizing a few temperatures. That prepcourse sounds insanly high priced. Try youtube or the library or something
>>22045942Hey new guy. Never underestimate how quickly the dish pit can grind the entire operation to a hait. Keep the silverware moving. All these little details matter when youre conducting a symphony
>>22045942>Shooting down people for giving you inputYeh maybe management isn't for you
>>22045964okay, thanks for the advice. I started in the dish pit. I totally understand what your saying. One time at the end of the night everyone would help the dishwasher out, at the very end of the night, even just putting dishes away. It made a huge difference.
>>22045967are you wearing a diaper right now?
>>22045890Servsafe will likely help your chances but if it’s not required don’t stress too much. It’s nothing complicated, just remembering facts so you can basically flash card it to learn. When taking the test, just make sure you take your time and read the questions. They don’t go so far to use double negatives, but they’ll write the questions in a less than straightforward way sometimes. There are probably practice tests online, be sure to check that out.>>22045909The best managers listen to their staff. Don’t bully “your way” where it doesn’t need to go. If your kitchen is staffed appropriately, you may just be in the way back there. You have to know your role. Management should be hands on to alleviate unforeseen issues but, you’ll likely have work outside the kitchen that no one else should be responsible for. Don’t neglect that because you want to be on the line for fun.
>>22045976Thanks anon, that's the kind of advice I was hoping for. for this position it is required without a bachelors degree, which I imagine..is full blown culinary school. I used to read the pro chef books for fun. I changed careers 6 years ago but i imagine it just like riding a bike.
Servsafe is basically all the stuff you'd be doing to satisfy health inspector checks but put to paper. ie "How do I ensure that this business doesn't make anybody sick, mainly through cross contamination or unsafe temperatures?"https://www.studocu.com/en-us/document/mt-san-jacinto-college/principles-of-sociology/serv-safe-practice-test-answers/83383156 has some examples, as the other anon said just run through the study course and you'll be fine if you can pass a driver's test-level exam.

>>22046012let me put it this way. No matter what,,,i'll go in the dish bit and listen to death metal,....no man left behind. gHe could be someone i can rely on in the future
>>22046056r u ok?
>>22045967Welcome to the frontlines rook. Thst footwear aint gonna cut it son. Hey wash your hands before you touch that the boss is around!
>>22046187Be present. You're rambling.
>>22045909At worst couldn’t you take the new position and if you don’t like it after a few months move onto something else? Good luck regardless, J hope things work out well for you
>>22045890>17 years of experience in the restaurant industry>still not a managerI would unironicaly kill myself
