Reading about the history of peasants unfounded fears of potatoes and other nightshades, I find the current masses reactionary impulse to fake meats rather similar in nature. Both are unscientific reactions to new and unfamiliar foods that are actually of a great benefit to people on the whole and need to be pushed onto the masses against their will. Fortunately for Europe in the past, there were visionaries like Frederik the Great and Parmentier who disregarded the superstitious nonsense of plebs and made it common from top down efforts, but now their is no modern equivalent who will push fake meat onto the plebs and make them adjust to it. The world literally cannot afford to accommodate such reactionary impulses if we want to live in a sustainable environment.
>>22048735>their
>>22048735I mean a fear of potatoes isn't entirely unfounded. They can be toxic if you don't store them correctly. Whereas a fear of 'plant-based meat' is definitely, completely unfounded, and is just something the worm currently inhabiting RFK Jr's undead corpse heard and popularized. The only real reason to dislike plant-based meat is that it doesn't taste as good as actual meat, or perhaps is lacking in a nutrient or two.
>>22048735>there
>>22048735They just need to advertise the product as "hey, do you want a meat alternative but still feel like you're eating a burger while at a BBQ? Get Beyond Burgers and such"
>>22048735i feel this way but about lab grown meat
>>22048750Modern PR people don't understand how to promote anything without using antagonism.
>>22048755>without using antagonism.why fix what aint broken?
>>22048735This but for trans people
what is this fake meat, you speak of made from?
>>22048735>need to be pushed onto the masses against their willThat's a terrible way to get people to try new foods. What won me over to consuming less meat was eating tasty vegetarian dishes.Focus on that first and foremost.Make delicious food and the rest follows.
>>22048735Bit late there buddy, most of those companies are bankrupt already as no one ever bought their shit. >>22048753True, I sthink this has much bigger potential. I don't believe that it will be exactly like actual meat, but I would be willing to accept the loss in order to no longer mass slaughter animals. Feeding this many humans with meat is simply not humanely possible.Unless we get rid of the entirety of india, which would be the vastly preferrable solution.
>>22048757For one, Beyond Meat has been a huge money loser.
>>22048771Pea protein
>>22048780>What won me over to consuming less meat was eating tasty vegetarian dishes. But thats the thing. You can make great food without meat.So why should anyone pay meat prices for those same veggies getting hyperporcessed and loaded with artificial flavours to turn them into floppy trans-meat that doesn't pass anyways?Just gimme some crispy fried potatoes with spring onions and garlic.
>>22048792>floppy trans-meat that doesn't pass anyways?I think it's fine in certain contexts, like the burgers in OPs pic. But in general it's inferior taste for more money.Unless they can make it cheaper than the real thing, then the incentive for most people just doesn't make sense.
>>22048780And where are most people going to get those opportunities when these types of food are culturally marginalized? It' would only work on a minority.> hyperporcessed, artificial flavours, trans-meatHere's the superstitious peasant talk again. There are no artificial flavours to speak of in any real sense, and the processing has no bearing on it's nutrient content and worth unless you can pinpoint exactly what was done to it that makes it any worse than meat. Also the fact that you bring up this as an alternative instead> crispy fried potatoes with spring onions and garlic.Which has no protein like fake meat and couldn't be a complete meal by itself, and is not nearly as versatile in the recipes and textures that you can make with it show why your opinion is pure unthought-out reaction.
>>22048805>And where are most people going to get those opportunities when these types of food are culturally marginalized? It' would only work on a minority. The best method that would work is bringing back cooking classes for people in schools, but only teaching plant based cooking an not teaching how to cook meat. If you do this, then people who are busy are not equipped to take the time and effort to learn more will automatically default to what they are comfortable and experienced in making on most days, which will be something without meat.
>>22048789that's fucking bullshit
>>22048805While I was being a bit hyperbolic there, fake meat still tastes like shit when compared to both real meat and a proper vegetarian dish. >Which has no protein like fake meatMaybe don't play semantics with my random example. Just replace the potatoes with protein rich lentils if it triggers your autism less in this case.
>>22048819Subsidies and USAID slush funds dont count
>>22048742>Yes eat the ultra processed fake meats full of soy, it's good for you anon
>>22048840Still better for you than your "all natural" meat>Thirty-eight participants were randomly assigned to either the Plant or Animal diet for 8 weeks, and then switch to the opposite diet, with no washout period. They were instructed to consume at least 2 servings per day of either traditional meat products or plant-based meat alternatives, which were provided by the study. They were also instructed to track items such as the types of burger buns and the garnishes and condiments used with burger items, and being consistent with these choices for both the Plant and Animal patties in the 2 phases. Participants attended 7 clinic visits over the course of the study and provided blood, stool, and urine samples to measure TMAO, blood lipids, blood sugar, insulin, blood pressure, weight, and microbiome composition. They also maintained dietary food records and completed questionnaires to assess food satisfaction and potential gastrointestinal symptoms.>The results showed that Plant products improved several cardiovascular disease risk factors. During the Plant phase, TMAO, LDL cholesterol and weight decreased significantly compared to the Animal phase. The study did not find any associations between the overall microbiome composition with either diet or with TMAO production. There were no adverse effects on risk factors from the Plant products nor significant changes in gastrointestinal symptoms.https://med.stanford.edu/nutrition/research/completed-studies/SWAPMEATstudy.html

>>22048865Look, its obviously just some dumb corporate grift to lift more Shekels from the Goyim. You have not adressed in any way the main point, which is why anyone should slop up this shit when you can just eat tasty vegetarian meals instead. >SWAPMEATstudy.htmlI'm pretty sure absolutely no "special interests" played any role whatsoever, and the involved scientists were completely unbiased and not tasked with delivering certain results as part of a huge marketing push to establish fake meat or anything. Nu-uh, no way sir.
>>22048735>unfounded fears of potatoes and other nightshadesThe fear of nightshades wasn't unfounded, retard.
My friend pranked me and gave me an Impossible Whopper in a regular Big Mac wrapper and he didn't tell me until after I devoured it. I genuinely couldn't tell. Now I only get Impossible Whoppers instead of real beefWhoppers because they're healthier than real beef and they literally taste exactly the same as a beef Whopper.

>>22048967Who died from eating potatoes?
>>22048981I don't think they taste exactly the same but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. I usually like veggie burgers more. I kind of want more veggie burgers to just try and taste good instead of exactly like meat.

I don't understand the toxicity fears. Like people said tomatoes were thought to be toxic because of the acid would eat away at their lead plates causing lead poisoning. Did Europeans not eat anything acidic??? No Wine or vinegar???
>>22049178It's because they knew other members of the nightshade family were poisonous. Like deadly nightshade for example.
