Are you saying people need even more or underestimating how much is consumed? Even debated studies saying people benefit from more sodium than current 1500-2300mg recommendations only put the ideal intake at around 4g.

you have to know the history of it being "bad". the whole "salt is bad" started with Dr. Lewis Kitchener Dahl.

Lewis Kitchener Dahl salt study on rats in 1962 fed his rats the equivalent of a human eating 280g of salt a day. Lewis was repulsed by people who added salt to their food, and thought that food never needed salt. Because of this his studies are suspect. Every study since then has been contradictory or often biased.
