Why does coffee taste so bad? And why do people drink something that tastes bad?
>>
You don't like coffee. That's okay. I don't like trucker dicks. You don't begrudge me my coffee, I won't begrudge you your trucker dicks, my homosexual amigo.
Happy Pride Month!

I only like mcdonald's coffee and I drink it black
>>

>Why does coffee taste so bad?
A lot of coffee is roasted so dark that it's basically burnt. It helps consistency and if you add milk and sugar to it like most people do then it doesn't matter much anyway, but it's still not great. If you try a decent quality light roast then it's almost a bit fruity and mild, it's very different from a basic dark roast.

>And why do people drink something that tastes bad?
caffeine
>>
>>22051011
I really like dark roast and it's what everyone I've ever known drinks, but I really want to try a light roast because I've heard it's completely different and more subtle.

this only happens if you burn it.

Try developing your bitter palate.. try to finish a shot of espresso straight; then refresh with carbonated or still water.. maybe with lemon if you like.

Drink one shot of espresso as your source of caffeine daily and within two weeks you should become accustomed and what was once bitter and caustic will become notes of nuts, chocolate, fruit and flora etc. depending on the origin of the coffee, roast profile, and blend.
>>
>>22050950
People who don't like coffee put sugar and cream in it

They either like coffee with sugar and cream, or don't like coffee but like sweet milk

Either way the main reason anyone drinks coffee is for caffeine, caffeine is a drug that makes your brain slightly more alert and awake feeling which many find beneficial along with other stimulants such as nicotine, cocaine, Adderall , and crystal mety
>>
Coffee is slop. It doesn't even taste bad, I'll have a small cup if I'm eating restaurant lunch and it's included in the price but I'd never actually go out of my way to buy it. The only reason people like it is because it literally has drugs in it, they're addicted and will have to keep drinking to function at the same level as they did without it before they started drinking coffee.
>>
>>22051468
Coffee isn't for lunch
>>
Either you are drinking coffee that you do not like, or you do not like any coffee.
You could try drinking some different coffee, or you could give up on drinking coffee and drink something else.
>>
>>22050950
things that are addicting negate the bad taste. that's why people like booze. even the guy who is going to reply to me and say "nuh uh I like duh taste".

I've been drinking coffee for almost 50 years. Yes it's bitter and I didn't like it in the beginning. Had to add sugar and milk. Then I met someone after a few years that only drunk it black. I didn't understand it. It tasted foul to me. He said, bite the bullet and drink it black for a week, and you'll never go back to sugar or milk. He was 100% correct. It's an acquired taste. But if you're not hooked yet, then leave it. I can't survive even a day without coffee. The closest I ever came was in the DDR when I was 17. They only had coffee that cost a fortune due to muh 'sanctions'. So I had to abstain for a whole week. The caffeine withdrawal became unbearable after 1.5 days and I had to go to an Intershop, where only western currency was accepted, and drank half a gallon of coke in one go. Saved! Let this be a lesson to you young bucks that aren't hooked yet on the coffee jew.

Poor people coffee taste bad, the goyffee, it s supposed to be some kind of meth for boomers proletarians. It's basically a blend of the cheapest stale beans possible, designed to keep you working longer. (((They))) don t drink that but the good stuff. You just outed yourself, goyism is a mental illness.
>>

Because you've had badly made coffee.

T. black coffee drinker

Buy a cheap 1 cup french press for $10, pour in one spoon of columbian medium roast, pour in water that is hot BUT NOT BOILING, around 85-90C, wait 3-4 minutes, press the plunger down slowly and serve.

It's not bitter and there is nothing that comes close to the flavor.

Its always a silly argument to me when people claim that if you add sugar, milk, cream or any flavourings that you don't REALLY like coffee.
Its retarded elitism akin to saying you don't REALLY like bread if you enjoy it with butter and ham because a real bread lover would just eat bread on its own.
Some things taste better when combined. Most things do infact.
>>
>>22052064
Correct, you don't really like bread if you're eating it in a sandwich because the star of the sandwich is the filling. People who take cream and sugar don't really like coffee. People who do shots or mix their drinks don't really like alcohol.

The point is not to have the best tasting thing, if that were the case I would eat nothing but junk food 24/7. It's about the variety of flavors and textures that are available and some of those can only be really experienced in isolation.
>>
>>22052077
>Correct, you don't really like bread if you're eating it in a sandwich because the star of the sandwich is the filling
That's retarded because if I wanted to eat the filling then I could just eat the whole pack of ham. But I don't because its better in a sandwich combined. Foods are better approached holistically. Flavours and textures can be combined to become a sum greater than their parts.
>The point is not to have the best tasting thing, if that were the case I would eat nothing but junk food 24/7
Junk food tastes like shit though. Junk food is only good for its convenience.
>It's about the variety of flavors and textures that are available and some of those can only be really experienced in isolation.
Flavours aren't only experienced in isolation though. This is such a cooklet thing to say. Do you also only eat like a baby with your food in a tray separating all the ingredients so they don't touch? A stew is bad because its a bunch of flavours combined that you can't taste in isolation? No, obviously not, that's a deranged line of thought that only someone who has never cooked in their life would think. Yet it persists for things like coffee because of the aforementioned elitism.
>>
>>22052098
A stew is it's own thing, a sandwich is it's own thing. You don't hear some one who loves stews claiming to be a broth lover, that is the base of the stew as much as coffee is the base for the concotion that people claim is coffee when it's really 50% milk and sugar.

It's fine to love the stew, just don't claim to be a broth lover.

i like coffee completely wholly and genuinely but i rarely drink it because i get heart palpitations and i don't want to potentially make it worse with caffeine
>>
>>22051435

>>22051482
Plenty of people drink decaffeinated coffee (enough for it to be available almost everywhere that sells coffee), so its not just the caffeine factor. Some people genuinely do just drink it because they like the taste.
>>
>>22050950
Cortado with about 4 grams of sugar, espresso tonic with a little can of Fever Tree has about 7 grams of sugar. Iced pour over doesn’t require sugar in my experience. Very refreshing and can taste all those “notes” you read on the bag quite clearly.

>>22051112
Not all dark roast is bad, but it can be a way to cover up poor quality beans.

Light roast really is almost something entirely different. You can actually sometimes taste that the coffee bean comes from a cherry-like fruit. It's more pleasant for drinking without milk or sugar.

Fucking this. The amount of coffee beans here in America thats roasted beyond repair fucking fries me. Starbucks is notorious for this to which I think many other coffee companies and businesses followed suit in practice. Its genuinely rare now to go to a coffee place and have an actual smooth and bold dark roast that doesn't taste like cigar ash.

You know, it's kinda interesting, but I like coffee too and not fond of trucker's dicks. What's more, all of the people I know do like coffee and do not like trucker's dicks. That poses an interesting question - do those people who do not like coffee like trucker's dicks? That's entirely possible!
So I made a poll https://strawpoll.com/eJnvVXVmEnv for those who don't like coffee to create some reliable statistics using the results.

Shitty, watery coffee is one of the worst things ever and that's usually what you get at diners, gas stations, fast food places etc. Proper black coffee is amazing

People have different flavors preferences, someone likes sweet things, while others like bitters things. The people who use ungodly amount of sugar or syrup in order to drink coffee just because are retarded tho, if you don't like coffe don't drink it, if you need an energy boost get green tea or something similar.
>>

Because bitter as a flavor is still a flavor that can be messed around with. Some people spend their whole lives obsessed with sweet, some umami, and some pyschos explore the world of sour.

For me, the land of semi sweet bitterness is so vast and delicious.

you don't need to put sugar in it unless it's burnt or incredibly bad coffee
