my tap water tastes like ASS and i don't own a fridge that dispenses filtered water

i tried putting one of those brita filters on the tap and it was a complete bullshit scam, and i'm tired of buying bottled water.

what type of pitcher can i get to filter my tap water and keep it cold in my fridge? or are those scams too?
>>
if you aren’t drinking ground water (from a well) or natural spring water it’s unironically over for you
>>
>>22051921
i do the big brita jug thing and bought the elite filter and it is pretty good. but my tap water doesnt taste like ass so yummvee

we get our water from the filthiest of the great lakes and last year even got put on an "algae alert" whatever the fuck that means

>>22051929
>>22051955
ok but in what ways are these bullshit? do the filters last a long time or do they underperform/not last as long as they should/not really purify the water/leave a charcoal taste/etc? i've already lost all trust in brita. it was 30 dollars for that tap filter and it didn't make the water taste better, it leaked, slowed the water flow, and overall was a pointless mistake.
>>
>>22051963
I change my filter once every month (but should probably be doing it every 2 weeks)
>>
>>22051963
the elite filters last 6 months. after that you can still use it. i change it when the taste gets less good. i dont have any charcoal taste or anything, it just tastes like good water.
if you have very bad water it may not last quite as long.

We have a ceramic candle filter tank (British Berkefeld is the brand I think) that we fill up with water regularly. We really only do this to get rid of any buildup in the water though since we're on a well. Could be worth a shot.
>>
>>22051963
means cyanobacteria multiplied in it, producing very potent toxins.
"Algae" toxins are no joke.

yt project farm zero water

Is there a water valve for a fridge line already installed the wall? If so you can connect a reverse osmosis filter system to it. Alternatively I think they make countertop RO systems that have a reservoir tank instead of a direct feed
>>
>>22051921
Walmart sells carbon filter pitchers for like 20 dollars and the filters are like 5 dollars each.1 filter lasts about a month. this is your best option if you aren't gonna buy a reverse osmosis under sink filter. ignore all other posts.

well water is generally the shittiest water available. I had 5 wells over 30 years and I'm glad I have municipal water now. what a nightmare.
>>
>>22052530
My work has well water and it smells like rotten eggs by the time it heats up to wash your hands. Super nasty
The water at my house though is so chlorinated i can’t drink it.
I’ve brought it up to the city a few times but they always tell me it’s a “recent cleaning” and will go away but it hasn’t in 5 years.
Maybe if i didn’t have two jobs to keep my stupid house in their city I’d have more time to harass them about it. Property value and taxes exploded right after i bought my house and now I’m struggling to make the mortgage worth all the other shit getting more expensive
>>
>>22051921
plan C is find a friend/family member with better tasting water and fill up some jugs with their water periodically
>>
>>22051921
I live in social housing and NEVER drink my tap water without boiling it for tea or whatever. I was out of bottled water a few days ago and I didn't feel like boiling water for tea, so I had 3 glasses of tap water and puked it all out 5 minutes later lol If it tastes like shit it probably is shit and you shouldn't drink it without a filter anon. If you don't have a car or something you can do groceries online and have them deliver a shitload of water bottles.
>>22051963
I think you need to start bottled water maxxing anon.
>>
>>22052538
it's a pain in the ass but if you put your chlorinated tap water in a container the chlorine will evaporate out. you can even just fill a milk jug and just leave the cap I dechlorinate my cat's water. I used to live by Detroit which is very very strongly chlorinated so I know exactly how you feel.

I grew up in Flint, Michigan.
Don’t talk to me about water quality.

my dad's side lived around waco and they still put sweet n low and lemon in their water no matter where they get it from because their tap water tasted so bad growing up that it became a habit.

>i don't own a fridge that dispenses filtered water
neither does anybody else.
it's just a spike that poke through your main water line.

It's called: "Demand your local municipality to clean the water so it's safe and healthy to drink."
Water should taste good, and, if it doesn't, something is wrong.

erie is the primary water source so whatever is sneaking in there at the PPM has been making me stupider since before i was born
probably gets the most rigorous of purification rituals that you'll ever see before it gets to me
unfortunately it's like sipping from a puddle with sediment and algae stirring in it constantly so safe generally counts as "won't kill you"
not to mention how much history of heavy metal export developed this city, and how much it continues to pollute to this day
it's kinda like asking pripyat to not tickle so much
>>
>>22052538
>smells like rotten eggs by the time it heats up
sounds like they need to change the anode rod on the water heater

Get a Zerowater pitcher.
The filters are larger than Britas, and they make the water taste a lot better.
They are more expensive, though.

Cool story bro, my 27 cup brita would like to have a word.

Install a simple activated carbon filter system to your tap. Carbon filters work wonders to remove any smells and chlorine. Boil it further if you want to completely remove chlorine.
>>
>>22052541
i'll fill up your jugs iykwim
>>
>>22053681
he said the filters are larger
>>22053657
i had a brita tank like you pic i kept in my fridge, after a few months i noticed green slime/algae growing in the tap, not sure longer lasting filters is a good thing as we really should be giving the whole thing a good clean regularly, and the filters are probably just activated charcoal like all the others
>>
reverse osmosis system?
>>
>>22053562
It's a building from the 70's so probably lol
I'll bring it to, thanks for mentioning!

>>22052549
I do that for my pet water too!
I tend to just buy myself water though.
>>
>>22051921
I just boil tap water in a 20L kettle. Tastes good and is enough for two weeks.
>>
>>22051921
You could always get one of these.
>>
>>22053913
20 Liters is not enough for 2 weeks of water, probably closer to a week if that for me.
>>
I only drink Zephyrhills water
>>
>>22053937
Right. Checked and it's 50L into the now broken 20L. Only do this in the city. The water in the sticks is sooooo good it's hard not to drink.
>>
>>22051921
My in-laws have a fridge that dispenses water, and from the day they bought it, it has always tasted like plastic. It's completely undrinkable, so they just drink water from the tap instead.
I don't get why you would pay so much money for something that doesn't even work.
>>
>>22051921
Chicago tap water drinker here. I bought an under sink purifier with remineralizer. Water tastes great now. Waterdrop.

>>

It's also a first world schizo thing, although they are less concerned with taste beyond how it validates their existing opinion.
