What's everyone's opinion on cheesy tourist trap restaurants?
Do you have a favorite, a default go-to when you're lost in an unfamiliar place?

Don't tell that to Bubba

Not really a tourist trap, but when I travelled for work a lot, I would always look for a Texas Roadhouse. The food was always reliable, always clean and it was just better than the usual middle of nowhere options where a lot of places closed early.

Why would anyone have a default "go-to" of a tourist trap restaurant? Those are for people who don't have a restaurant they know about and get scammed. If you're in an unfamiliar location one of the best things to do is try random places and see what sort of food they have. It's a waste to go to a new location and seek out restaurants that serve what you can already get at home.

I get per diems from work. We eat at the tourist traps and get separate billing for alcohol some of it is good.

Whenever I see a menu in English I know it's a tourist trap do I steer clear

if youre savvy you can find a quality meal on almost any menu. shrimpers net catch is the only choice here because its sold by weight and difficult to fuck up. everything else could be complete shit but the shrimp will be okay even if its tiny 50/pounders and overcooked

youre supposed to eat at dives and ask the bartender to bill all the booze as food, retard.

This is the correct answer. You're supposed to go to safe places like big national brands that have the same food at every location when you're in an unfamiliar territory.

>eat only at mcdonalds
???

Yeah, I would seek out local places if I got into town early...but when it's 9 pm and almost everywhere else is closed..I just know I could get a decent steak and potato and a beer and head back to my room

>You're supposed to
Says who? The CEOs of big national brands?

>>22053432
That's valid but more out of necessity because of a shitty flight itinerary. I've been in that position though.

I find people who rely on chains often come from more working class backgrounds, which makes sense.
You go to a real ghetto and the majority of small, franchise burger and chicken restaurants are not very good, often a bit scummy and attempting to knock off fast food.
You go to a good neighborhood and the local restaurants are chic, aesthetic and a mix of local ethnic staples and tryhard bistros.
So if you grew up poor, you're more likely to trust Texas Roadhouse over a local hole in the wall, but if you grew up middle class you're more likely to find the big chain tacky and the small bistro or the thai fusion place to be your thing.

>eat chicken and strawberries
>its good
>some city slicker comes up and tells you the food you just ate didn't actually taste good
Oh ok
