What do Western snacks taste like to Eastern people? Do they taste noticeably different, or "more Western"? I have eaten many types of East Asian snacks and they always have an underlying flavor that identifies them as "Eastern" - more umami - maybe due to increased levels of MSG and disodium 5'-ribonucleotides. As a result, it's immediately identifiable that these snacks are from another country, made for the palates of a different market. Companies obviously tailor their products to fit the tastes of the market, so I'm just curious if you've ever tried a Western snack and thought "this tastes very different than what I'm used to".
>>22056874>What do Western snacks taste like to Eastern people?wouldn't know since the berlin wall fell, ending both east and west, in 1989.
>>22056879>berlin wallnever heard of it
this is a sincere thread i am genuinely curious pls respond
>>22057240I share your curiosity
>>22056874I don't know too much about it, but I do have east Asian friends who say our (Amerifat) sweets are super sweet.
>>22058514that's interesting because i think all the sweets I've had from asian bakeries are much sweeter than western pastries. even the ones you'd think would be savory like the hot dog buns or whatever have sweeter bread than I'm expecting and use sweeter than normal ketchup or whatever condiment.i can see our candy and chocolate bars being much sweeter than theirs though.
>>22056879>>22056885I remember when it fell. One of my classmates went to visit and came back and did a little show and tell with a chunk of it.>>22056874Being a troon while Asian is easy more. Didn't work for that one, though. I'm Scandinavian, so I like salt licorice (actually ammonium chloride). I think they changed the law about how "salty" it can be, though, because it just doesn't kick like it used to.
>>22058526>Being a troonthis is a cosplayer. cosplaying opposite sex characters in asian countries has been normal and popular since before you were born, and it rarely has anything to do with being a tranny.
They taste more fake and artificial.
>>22058570in what way? because I'd say the same about asian snacks in some cases.
>>22058541Sorry if I offended you, sir
>>22058595apology accepted. preciate ya pal
>>22058579Just to be clear, I'm not saying that they actually are, but when I grew up in Hong Kong, this was the comparison (possibly joke?) that everyone kept making about Western snacks. The best way I can describe it is that Western snacks, specifically American and British snacks (because hong kong was a former british colony, we got their snacks sometimes), tasted like they had more salt and/or sugar in them. So, if I compared a western cream pastry of some kind to, for example, a pastry with red bean filling from the HK supermarkets, we'd the hong kong pastry tasted like red beans, whereas the Western one just tasted sweet. Both are sweet, but the western ones are just sweet, where as the ones we had tasted like the thing they were made of, the implication being that western snacks put so much sugar and/or salt that it prevents the original flavor from standing out.Is this a massive over generalization on the part of the people making this comparison that relies heavily on cherry picking specific snacks? I mean, probably? But, this really is the kind of thing people were saying.
>>22058690interesting. that makes sense. i wasnt trying to say they were full of shit i just wanted to know specific things that made the western ones taste different.there is a different quality to asian snacks. for instance, an american crab chip tastes very different from an asian crab chip. the asian ones arent afraid to make it taste like actual seafood whereas the american one might just take like the seasonings you associate with crabs.
>>22058700To be honest, I think it's more to do with the fact that you'd rarely ever find a snack in Asian countries, like twinkies for example, where it's just "sweet thing". Majority of the time, the snack has a flavor and the sweetness or saltiness is complimentary. Or at least it's supposed to be, there are some that can be way too sweet or salty. You can bet your ass those fish snacks in that picture have crazy high sodium in them.I personally I'd say pride is a factor as well. That is to say, they're proud of the fact that a snack like that snacks like that are rare and that only Westerners would actually want that.
>>22056874That's a guy btw.
>>22058995Oh really? You can't tell. Idiot
>>22056874regional flavorings aside, potato chips are potato chips, same as corn puffs.Japanese find everyday european sweets to be much sweeter than wagashi, but only slightly more sweet than their local western-style sweets.I used to trade letters, sweets, post cards with Japanese people I met on interpals. You cannot do that anymore because the site is literally just nigerians, jeets and other subhuman trash trying to phish, scam or kidnap each other for ransom.
>>22058999I... I did tell though.
>>22056874I’m from Western Europe and American snacks taste very sugary with a slight chemical taste too. Eastern European snacks are a bit greasier or a bit flaky-er The west isnt one place
>>22058995(And that's a good thing!)
