My refrigerator broke.

I dont have the money to replace it and will be moving relatively soon anyway.

In the mean time I need ideas on shelf stable / canned foods that dont need any refrigerated ingredients.

I been eating ramen, canned chili, spaghetti with jarred sauce, and Velveeta shells and cheese.

I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions.

Rice and beans. Get small amounts of meat and vegetable for one meal cook them how you want and eat with rice and beans. Some kind of frozen veg mix for one would probably be easiest. You would have to shop and go home and cook right away of course.

Agree with the other posters about canned meats and sauce packets. I think butter is fine at room temp for a while for cooking (not baking). If you have access to freshly laid eggs I think they can be stored at room temp for a little while too

Rice and especially potatoes if you want to mix it up the carbs sources

You could always start baking. Flour, water, yeast packets, salt. You get fresh bread daily.

Pasta + pesto is a nice meal that doesn't really need anything else added.
instant ramen + soft boiled eggs (eggs keep at least 2 weeks at room temperature) + canned meat/fish/seafood + dried chili flakes if you like heat.
Pasta aglio e olio
potatoes and pre baked breads obviously don't need refrigerating so I'd get a lot of those, then get some hot dogs and spreads. personally I'm very fond of rillettes.
Canned vegetables suck texture wise but I'd still get some spinach or something. I'd also look in to signing up for every food delivery service to get first order discounts etc... maybe get Uber One if you can afford delivery and don't want to eat canned foods all day everyday.
I'd also recommend you get some fruits for your vitamin C intake because most canned vegetables have practically none of it due to the way they're processed. One single orange gives you close to your daily recommended intake.

Not as much food needs to be refrigerated as you probably think. You can keep most produce out of the fridge for a good while, pretty much anything but leafy greens will last at least a couple days, stuff like onions/potatoes/tomatoes/fruit will last a while. Breads, dried goods like rice/beans/lentils, canned goods and meats. Peanut butter, oils, vinegars. Lot of stuff man.

Lots of meals you can do. You can substitute ordinary meat or fish with a tinned version, and root vegetables don't require refrigeration, neither do eggs really.

for example:

-onion
-carrot
-corned beef
-stock
-potato
-butter
cook as you would for ordinary cottage/shepherds pie only using a tin of corned beef instead of mince, and you can make mash with just butter if you don't want to use milk because it will be kept out.

Normal version I make doesn't require refrigerated stuff other than the olives which you can leave out.
-dried pasta
-garlic
-olive oil
-Tinned toms
-capers (kept in brine)
-tinned fish (anchovies traditionally but also commonly tuna)
-dried chilli (and/or other dried spices)
-olives (can always exclude)
fry the garlic and spice in the oil then add the tomatoes and then bung everything else in, add water from the pasta and drain the pasta whilst still al dente and finish in the sauce.

Other than that maybe if you have the time just buy fresh items everyday.

Rancid is a huge exaggeration. The government advice is 2 days yes, so I would follow that, but as a kid we kept a stick of butter out in a butter dish, it absolutely can last a week if not longer and taste fine.

I realize this seems braindead obvious, but sometimes we get in odd thinking traps. Just go to the grocery and walk around. Is it not stored in a fridge or freezer? That's what you can eat.
