For example, a Brit will straight up tell you that tikka masala is practically their national dish and make fun of beans and toast, and the Dutch can do the same to some extent with their relation with Indonesian food vs. their own cooking, but try telling a German that döner kebabs are more popular than sausage in Germany and he or she starts spazzing out and putting down your own nationality's cuisine instead, and then goes off about how German bread is better than everyone else's bread, ditto with German beer and German sausage and even German salad and obscure German drinks. I've had enough experience to know this to be a recurring thing.Why is it that way with Germans?

There are almost no German pubs around. The closest I can think of if Amish food out in PA and the Hofbräuhaus chain. Chinese and Indian food is everywhere, lots of Halal food, every pub at least pretends to be Irish but no German food.
