Is it worth it to pay 9x more for real maple syrup?
>>22066624Yes./thread
>>22066624in canada i pay about 5x if no sale. 3x if there's a decent sale.for something like eggo waffles, table syrup works fine. but for anything homemade, maple is worth it.butter is 2-3x the cost of margarine, and I think that's well worth it.
It depends.I do because I can't stand the fake stuff having grown up on real maple syrup. But I find people who grew up on the fake stuff rarely find the real stuff is worth the expense.
I don't see it as paying 5x for "real" syrup, I see it as paying 5x to not drink corn syrup.
If you’re over 12 and eat enough maple syrup that the cost is a problem, you’ve got other problems.I think it’s worth it. A small bottle lasts me over a year, though.
>>22066665This. I use more in recipes than over cakes.
>>22066665a small bottle would last me 4 pancakes (2 meals)
>>22066645>But I find people who grew up on the fake stuff rarely find the real stuff is worth the expense. It seems like a lot of them think it tastes worse too because it's not as thick. And real maple syrup has slight bitterness from the sugar caramelizing.
>>22066669>It seems like a lot of them think it tastes worse too because it's not as thick.I think this. Not the taste but the consistence is worse.
>>22066624I would say yes, I don't use maple syrup often anyways so might as well get the good stuff.>>22066661The differences are minimal at best when it comes to nutrition. Unless you're fructose intolerant or something like that. Maple syrup is just tastier.
Just butter is fine for pancakes or waffles, you don't need Goysrup.
>>22066681a few teaspoons of maple syrup just makes it better.
>>22066673>ALL syrup is grade A syrup now!The participation trophy of flavors.
>>22066693To be fair, it's mostly because the people who like fake maple syrup have gotten used to a super condensed maple punch flavor profile, which is also what you get from commercial grade syrups.Since it was illegal, or difficult for consumers to source commercial grade syrup they decided to re-do the grading to account for modern tastes and market demands, which shows a lot of people really like darker syrups.
>>22066673I want some black hole 0% syrup
>>22066707I got some black syrup for your hole right here
>>22066624The fake stuff used to be way better because it was thick and wouldn't make pancakes soggy. When they took the nigger off of the package they changed to make it watery so now it is as shit as real syrup.Just use pie filling, it's way better.

>>22066624Too bad you dont live somewhere with lots of great local options. I can drive ten minutes out of town on the weekend and find a farm stand with great syrup and honey.
>>22066645I grew up on real maple syrup and I'm perfectly fine with fake stuff now. Especially if I'm putting it on something kind of ridiculously unhealthy, like french toast that's saturated in bacon grease
>>22066624Just the one time so you know what you're missing when you're back to the plastic bottle
>>22066704>Since it was illegal, or difficult for consumers to source commercial grade syrupI'm lucky enough to have done this one time, it was kino, the flavor was so rich even if it wasn't the sweetestt. New England
>>22066624I buy my maple syrup from neighbors down the lane. It was 50$ (canadian) for a gallon this year.
i really don't eat waffles often enough to justify the expense
OP hereI bought some, roughly $5 for 100mL. Just put a teaspoon in my coffee, let's see how it goes.
>>22067518Completely unnoticeable, perhaps a teaspoon was not enough.
>>22066624>Is it worth it to pay 9x more for real maple syrup?kekorganic Maple Syrup is only like 12-15€/l here (thanks Aldi/Lidl/dm)I don't think you can get any syrup besides plain homemade simple syrup for <1,6€/lalso why the fuck would maple syrup prices even be a problem for you??you usually only need a few tablespoons for sauces, vinaigrettes, marinades or for serving on like pancakesa 250ml bottle lasts like 2-3months for me
>>22066624ive been paranoid for years that no matter what the bottle says, its not actually real maple.i know this is schizo but i just dont trust anyone on this.
>>22066772actual goy slop
>>22066624yes. i wouldnt even touch the corn syrup garbagesnack tip. get some plain greek yogurt and drizzle a little maple syrup on it
>>22067965Not schizo. I know some are real because my uncle sends me pics from his "sugar shack" and the taps on the trees, but it's an easy thing to fake. There's a reason why you see truckloads of tomatoes being trucked INTO San Marzano. There's no way to prove the source of olive oil either, considering the price difference, cutting it with other oils is too profitable to ignore.
