for something like eggo waffles, table syrup works fine. but for anything homemade, maple is worth it.

butter is 2-3x the cost of margarine, and I think that's well worth it.

It seems like a lot of them think it tastes worse too because it's not as thick. And real maple syrup has slight bitterness from the sugar caramelizing.

The differences are minimal at best when it comes to nutrition. Unless you're fructose intolerant or something like that. Maple syrup is just tastier.

To be fair, it's mostly because the people who like fake maple syrup have gotten used to a super condensed maple punch flavor profile, which is also what you get from commercial grade syrups.

Since it was illegal, or difficult for consumers to source commercial grade syrup they decided to re-do the grading to account for modern tastes and market demands, which shows a lot of people really like darker syrups.

The fake stuff used to be way better because it was thick and wouldn't make pancakes soggy. When they took the nigger off of the package they changed to make it watery so now it is as shit as real syrup.

I don't think you can get any syrup besides plain homemade simple syrup for <1,6€/l

also why the fuck would maple syrup prices even be a problem for you??
you usually only need a few tablespoons for sauces, vinaigrettes, marinades or for serving on like pancakes

Not schizo. I know some are real because my uncle sends me pics from his "sugar shack" and the taps on the trees, but it's an easy thing to fake. There's a reason why you see truckloads of tomatoes being trucked INTO San Marzano. There's no way to prove the source of olive oil either, considering the price difference, cutting it with other oils is too profitable to ignore.
