What do you think of Vietnamese food?

It's one of my favorites. The reliance on fresh produce makes every dish I've had from them very flavorful while also adding in fermented flavors and their grilled pork and whatnot is very good

Admittedly, outside banh mi and pho I don't know a ton about it. Pho isn't really my thing and the only banh mi I like is the grilled pork version (not a fan of the head cheese or pate).

Any suggestions for someone that doesn't like seafood but might want to explore Vietnamese food a bit more?
>>
Really good. Good mix of grilled meat, especially pork, salads, sea food, hearty broth, noodles.

Com tam is very popular, very simple, and very good. They have one with rice noodles but I prefer the broken rice
>>
Delicious. I like wrapping the spring rolls in lettuce leaves and dunking them in that sweet, tangy sauce.
>>
Never had a bad time with Viet food, might even say it's "comfort food" for me when I just wanna eat good, not pay a lot, and feel satiated.

What age is that thing? 14 or 40?

also, get one of the vermicelli bowls with grilled pork and an eggroll on top. dump the nuoc cham all over it. let some of the eggroll get a little soggy. it's good

Either way, anal is on the table!

Viet is never really SUPER expensive, but I love those minced shrimp kebabs. Best thing I love is the salad rolls you make your own and dip the rice tortilla in the warm water to soften it up. I was awkward at first and fucked it up all the time, but now I got it down to a science.

Also my local sells really nice chili oil jars, better than the poonanny granny ones in stores or Amazon.

I'll also second this on top of my above post. They have nice cold dishes to enjoy during hot months where not everything is steaming hot but still delicious/

A bbq pork bahn mi (with paté please) and a Vietnamese iced coffee might be the perfect lunch

Probably my favorite cuisine. I got started on pho, but everything I've tried has been good. The fresh spring rolls with basil and shrimp, usually served with a peanut sauce, are fantastic. One restaurant I tried had a chicken and cabbage salad that I loved.

I used to be friends with the owner of a pho restaurant years ago, great guy, his wife was very smart, and they had three wonderful kids. He was in the South Vietnamese Army and spent eight years in a "reeducation camp" before he somehow escaped and made it to the U.S. I miss you, Vinnie.

Did you move away?

Viets took over half the bakeries in Australia from anglos and improved them so they're all right by me
rice paper rolls, pork/prawn dishes, weird spicy salads full of peanuts and noodles are always a good time
coffee with condensed milk is a bit odd though

Pretty good, also the restaurants often give the best value for money in my city. I dunno why I'd get one burger when I could get 3 banh mis.

It's good. I like the shaken beef.

that doesn't even look like Vietnamese food

The Vietnamese place by me has sandwiches with charbroiled pork and fruity drinks with real fruit pulp in them.
