>Calumet baking powder
People who spend way too much time thinking about the film "the Shining" argue that Stanley Kubrick carefully placed Calumet cans in the movie as clues. They suggest the word "Calumet" (which translates to "peace pipe") along with other Native American imagery in the film subtly points to historical colonial atrocities. Early in the film, it is explicitly mentioned that the Overlook was built on an ancient Native American burial grounds.

10lbs? I'd have to portion and freeze that, and it might last me the rest of my life.

Analysis like this always reminded me of high school literature classes.
>The purple curtains lined with silver tassles represented his desire to be accepted as a royal, however never wanting kingship, which is why he preferred the silver tassles

How about he just fuckin liked purple and silver curtains? Huh Ms Brown? You think you're some great fucking literary analyst when you're picking random shit and jumping out there to a schizo explanation instead of the simplest one?

Back on topic though, feels bad all indians and blacks had to be removed from any and all packaging or branding for... reasons still undecided. Same for the washington redskins, braves, chiefs, and whatever else that was offensive to white people on behalf of nobody.

This black lady used that to her advantage. Not long after Aunt Jemima got removed, she started her own syrup brand, put her own black face on it, and laughed all the way to the bank

The company originated from Chicago where over 175 narive tribes lived. The name Calumet was a colonial invented word for the peace pipe. Meaning good health and travels to all who would buy their product. Using mysticism roots to bless their business as one to be long lasting and prosperous.

At our school I heard the story of them one time unfortunately for them looking at a book whose author was still alive, and when getting point deductions a student actually contacting him, with him them confirming "The curtains were blue" did not show the main characters desire to grow up bullshit like that but it meant "The curtains were fucking blue".

To be fair, I think there usually is a deeper reason behind some trivial things. I don't think people like the color blue "just because they like the color blue."
They don't usually realize it but there's probably some reason like "their room as a baby was painted blue and now the color blue reminds them of being calm and secure" or even more basic like "the color blue reminds their primitive monkey neurons of the vast open sky."
People don't think about those reasons, but I believe they do exist. The author, for example, maybe wasn't cognizant of them when they made the curtains blue, for example, but there's still a deeper meaning than just "they liked blue".

But yes, the people who opine about trivial symbology like that are insufferable, I agree.
