Studies have shown that fasting and calorie restriction in general can have positive effects on health, but there are extreme cases where they can make things a lot worse. For example, a young woman from Hangzhou, China’s Zhejiang province, allegedly developed acute pancreatitis by severely restricting calorie intake for six days a week and feasting on fatty foods and sweets on the seventh.

A few months ago, Qingqing (pseudonym), who weighed 55 kilograms (121 lbs) at a height of 1.55 meters (5ft 1in), decided that she needed to lose weight and came up with an extreme diet to achieve her goal. It involved eating very little for six days a week and then binging on whatever she liked on her one cheat day.

On weekdays, Qingqing restricted her calorie intake to 800 calories, consuming small quantities of boiled vegetables, chicken breast, and fruit, but tried to make up for it on Sunday by indulging in all kinds of savoury foods, including hotpot, fried chicken, hot chicken-flavour noodles, and milk tea.

The woman’s diet worked wonders, and she reportedly managed to lose 7.5kg (16.5 lbs) in just a month, but last month, after going through a big bucket of fried chicken at noon and two packs of hot chicken-flavour noodles in the evening on her cheat day, Qingqing started experiencing discomfort in her stomach, waist, and back.

https://www.odditycentral.com/news/woman-allegedly-develops-pancreatitis-by-starving-herself-for-6-days-binge-eating-on-the-7th.html
>>
After she started vomiting, and her discomfort worsened, Qingqing was rushed to The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, where she was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis.

“In an attempt to slim down, many people eat only one meal a day, believing they could become thinner. However, this method would easily drive the pancreas to the brink of collapse,” a doctor at the hospital said, adding that this extreme form of dieting can cause a host of other health problems.

Apparently, Qingqing’s long periods of extreme dieting caused the pancreas to go into a “low load standby” mode, only to struggle to produce high levels of digestive enzymes when the woman consumed high quantities of fatty, savoury foods on her cheat day. The prolonged routine eventually led to acute pancreatitis.

fasting is the dumbest worst way to lose weight.
>>
>>22069487
it's the best way for me because if I eat a small amount of food my blood sugar will crash due to an oversupply of insulin
>>
>>22069491
Have you taken a blood test to confirm this is happening?
>>
>>22069477
She only weighed 121 so she wasn't really fat to begin with
That's a healthy BMI, but closer to the heavy side
>>
>>22069487
Fasting is for health not weight loss thats what people dont realize. If you wanna lose weight just stay active but people refuse to do that lol
>>
>>22069555
What else could it possibly be? I eat a lot and feel great. I eat a small meal of primarily carbs and invariably get jittery and weak in a couple hours. I eat a normal sized meal with a moderate amount of carbs and I'm tired a few hours later.
>>
>>22069627
also: eat nothing and feel fine... a bit low energy perhaps but it passes
>>
>>22069627
Some people don't tolerate carbs that well, no matter what the retards are saying. If I was you I'd just eat salad/broccoli/meat/fish/you know the deal.
Of course the type of carbs matter too if you really insist on eating them.
>>
>>22069633
but I can eat a shitload of carbs and feel great. I can also eat a "keto" diet and do not crash, but I find that that eliminates my appetite to the point where I do not want to eat anything anyway and I am not interested in forcefeeding myself
>>
High carbs are needed for brain activity. Avoid them if you do not have that.

You're better off just being skinny fat if you're not rich enough to afford periodic lipo. Frequent calorie restriction eventually leads to adaptation: being satiated with less and not losing weight. You won't achieve movie star proportions unless you're starving, tweaking, or taking glp-1's.

bitch did the butterfield diet plan
hope the pints of cream were worth it

If you're overweight then it's more likely to be a symptom of diabetes/prediabetes, which means your body is making insulin but it also can't use it very well. It could also be for other reasons like dehydration since carbs absorb more fluid than fat or protein. I've had anemia and it made me get tired after eating carbs despite my blood sugar being normal but that's probably because anemia causes fluid/electrolyte issues on top of the other stuff.

If you're consuming sugar then sugar intolerances aren't that rare and it could be lactose, sucrose, or fructose. If you're not having diarrhea then it's probably not this, though.

I'm not doubting that carbs might be causing problems but it being from your body producing too much insulin is really unlikely and would be easy to prove with a simple blood test if you really want to figure out why it's happening.
>>
>>22069609
Nah it's for fat loss too.
>>
>>22069609
retard. losing weight starts in the kitchen. the kcal burned by exercise is not enough on its own.

Yeah I bet it is.

That sounds like what happens to bad alcoholics. They don't eat or eat very little for days because they drink so many calories that they don't feel hungry then they eat a lot of fatty salty junk because they feel weak and hungry and end up puking and shitting uncontrollably almost immediately after gorging.

sorry to blow you the fuck out with antectodal evidence but i fucked my pancreas drinking and intermittent fasting fixed it big time. problem with OP story is 800 calories is 750 too many for your digestive and lymphatic systems to reset. its actually an insane max stress strat. amazing she could last long enough to fuck her pancreas. must have been miserable.

also math is simple on this. rolling 24hr fasts = min 150lb loss in 1 year. only way it doesnt work is a life threatening colon blockage.

>>22069641
cholesterol not carbs is brain fuel

Low effort post, OP.

>i fucked my pancreas drinking and intermittent fasting fixed it
did you stop drinking?
>>
>>22070284
your brain can use 120g of carbs per day. your brain contains a large amount of cholesterol but it doesn't use it the same way it uses carbs for energy.
>>
>>22070284
>>22070346
you're both wrong and retarded. no im not going to explain.

>If you're overweight then it's more likely to be a symptom of diabetes/prediabetes, which means your body is making insulin but it also can't use it very well.
People with diabetes/prediabetes feel great all day after eating like 4000 calories of slop? Yes I'm fat but this started before I was fat.
>>
>>22069477
rapidly changing your diet by eating minimal and clean to gorging spicy noodles and fried chicken is going to cause shock to your system, i think most people understand that is a bad idea
>>
>>22070341
i drink a lot less but i still drink a lot by every medical standard.
im not a mushroom worshipping nutter who beleives fasting will cure late stage cancer but autophagy absolutely can fix some shit modern medicine says is unfixable.

Go do enough exercise to burn one full meal's worth of calories and report back, I'll wait

yeah this is backwards. exercise is for health not weight loss.

Carb and blood sugar intolerances come from plastic and dioxins getting into your body

They are poisoning us, I find myself saying this a lot
>>
>>22069627
nigga you are diabetic
>>
>>22070494
no its from pufas, stress, and poor nutritIon

the story in the OP isn't even a fast

They made up the plastics thing to hide vaccination damage.
>>
>>22070494
Carb and blood sugar issues are mostly from people constantly overeating and consuming more carbs than your body can handle. Even drinking too much water will make you sick and it doesn't have anything to do with contamination or toxins or anything.

There are major issues with pollution but it's not the cause of everything.

Don't think so. Like I said, I only get fatigued when eating a small amount of carbs, not a large amount of carbs.

>Like I said, I only get fatigued when eating a small amount of carbs, not a large amount of carbs.
What kind of carbs? That sounds unusual but might make sense if you eat a small amount of fast digesting carbs which can raise and lower blood sugar faster.

lipo is retarded and a very good way to die from blood clots

ok, schlomo

Yeah, I don't get it. I did 800 calorie dinners plus a protein shake, 6 days a week on a meal plan (factor). I lost weight and was fine.

literally never heard of eating a large meal giving you pancreatitis
>>
>>22069478
>In an attempt to slim down, many people eat only one meal a day, believing they could become thinner. However, this method would easily drive the pancreas to the brink of collapse
I've only eaten 1 meal a day since I was a child. Add meds cut appetite, became habit. That's bs
>>
>>22070970
She's likely been at it a while and its taken its toll.
>>
>>22069477
>Starving Herself for 6 Days, Binge Eating on the 7th
that's what happens when you start to eat regularly after intense fasting, you have to start off very very small on the first day you start eating again, absolutely no solid foods
I learned that the hard way, my first fasting attempt lasted 7 days, on the 8th day I tried eating regularly and I couldn't stop hiccuping for an entire day and a half, lost 10 pounds in that first fast
my second attempt was longer, went on for literally 2 weeks and I lost 20 pounds
when I resumed eating I only ate 1 small bowl of chicken broth on day 1, the second day I had only a small can of tomato soup, the third day a soft boiled egg, 4th a bowl of mash potatoes and peas
>>
it's possible but i'd wonder if she was an alcoholic or something since that's one of the most common causes of pancreatitis.
>>
>>22069609
I've literally dropped 30 pounds in a couple of months by simply doing OMAD and strict zero calories outside of that and nothing else.
I still even eat sugar as well.
>>
>>22071426
>it's possible but i'd wonder if she was an alcoholic or something since that's one of the most common causes of pancreatitis.
thats what the doctors suspected first when my mother developed pancreatitis a coupel of years ago (she barely ever drinks though). Pancreatitis is no joke, she almost died. And it appeared from one minute to the next. If you get that while hiking out in the wilderness or sth you are fucked.
>>
>>22071583
I was on OMAD for like a week unintentionally because I ate 3 buffets and one giant pizza and I gained weight.
>>
>>22072604
I have a friend who drank until he got pancreatitis and now he's diabetic. Pancreatitis is crazy. Also I think it's genetic how predisposed you are to it. Some people get pancreatitis from getting drunk for 3 days in a row on a long weekend yet other people get drunk for 40 years straight with no issue. I assume getting it from eating too much has a similar mechanism of just overloading its capabilities. A family member of mine also got pancreatitis and they had to put him in a medically induced coma.

I drink a lot and that shit scares me
