Does /ck/ grow food?(These are cilantro babies)
>>22069503Poor man amateurish planting. Just stop.
>Poor man amateurish planting. Just stop.
>>22069782Do you grow food?
>>22069803Nope.
>>22069503not right now but i have grown many an edible plant
>>22069808RIP
>>22069821What kinds of planterinos?
>>22069503Yes. I hate slugs btw.
>>22069503Yes look at my onion.
>>22069782>not an expert yet? stop getting better.loser mindset
>>22069932A beautiful bulbous boy!
>>22069503Peppers. All kinds. It's a great way to garden because you can very easily produce a full years supply in very little space (especially for hot ones). They're also real forgiving for beginners.
>>22069975How do you keep a whole year’s worth of peppers? I meant to into peppers, but I forgot this year.
>>22069503No. Gardening is a morally bankrupt hobby. You're stealing food out of the mouth of a farmers child when you do this shit. Just buy produce like a normal person and support the farmers.
>>22069503blessed thread. i grow mostly herbs and some onions. i want to do pumpkins this year
>>22069932big onion
>>22069503theres an /hgm/ thread on /out/ for growing food. That said, I have a 3x25' garden in my back yard. I'm not a farmer, i grew herbs, peppers, and whatever else I can get to sprout. herbs and flowers out front too.
>>22070028Cayennes: dry them in the fall and they'll last yearsHabaneros: freeze them. they're mushy when thawed but it doesn't matter because they're always just there in a mix of some kindHatch/NM chiles: roast, chop and freezeJalapenos, Pepperoncinis: pickle
>>22070051I guess also: hot sauce.
>>22070050Watermelons and squash are easy btw just toss some seeds in a plot you dont care about
Finally started gardening this year.Got some mint, tomatoes, lemongrass, parsley, coriander, lemon balm, oregano, basil, dill, chamomile, lavender, cherry, and loquat
>>22069503Yeah. Planted some bacon seeds a couple years back. I used to have a big veggie garden, but I need to dig some new lines to make watering easier/automated.
>>22070058shut the fuck up, you're a dumb idiot. cucurbits are easier to grow but take so much space and usually disappointing results. Herbs are easier, potatos are easy, and so is your mom.
>>22069503Nice coriander plants. No need for loan words when we already have cromulent English words for things.
Got tomatoes, peppers and squash coming along nicely right now. Oh and basil too. I have a blackberry bush but it’s dying and I have no fucking idea why
>>22069912I tried coarsely crushed eggshells last year and it definitely helped.Chipmunks destroyed a few squash though.
>>22070050Also /plant/ on /an/.
Fresh blueberries from the yard. Birds love them and I didn’t get a chance to build an enclosure this year so I’ve been picking them early and they’re flavorful but didn’t get sweet.Trying to leave them on until fully ripe now but I feel like Howard Hughes watching on the security camera so I can run out and shoo any birds away
>>22069503Only raspberries and a couple herbs, I live on a mountainside with moody weather in a heavily wooded area and everything else doesn't thrive or just fucking dies
>>22069503>(These are cilantro babies)For now. The hunger of snails is as boundless as the black void between the stars, and soon the slimy menace will come for your little herb sprouts.
>>22070425Death to the slug menace
>>22069503I have a small garden that I keep growing. Coriander I dont bother planting because the seeds from last year always sprout on their own. Ditto the tomatillos. I have cucumber and san marzanos coming in this year. Garlic, onion, chives, and all my herbs are on autopilot. I sprouted peach pits a couple years ago and those are turning into respectable trees. Hoping to see fruit in a few years.
>>22070468I had green onions that I absolutely disowned, in a big plastic pot. They kept fucking coming back for like 8 years. Never watered. Hard winters. Just crazy survivable.
>>22070432Total Mollusk Death.
A potato I had started to grow big eyes so I tossed it in my mom’s plant pot. Then it got bigger and bigger on accident cause I thought it’d die, so we separated them and I tossed it outside. It’s been a few weeks and the eyes are now these long stalks, I’m not sure what to do now but it’s still living I guess.
>>22070037
>>22069503Growin' pumpkin and summer squash currently.Got 4 new blueberry and 4 new raspberry bushes just planted as well. Had a single blueberry ripen and it hasn't even been 3 months yet.Lookin' good here lads.
>>22069912Diatomaceous earth. It will shred their outsides and dry them out.
>>22070555>Diatomaceous earthdiatoms are alien life forms
>>22069503Yess> herbs: sage (in all garden beds), dill, parsley, basil, cilantro, lavender, chamomile> veggies: tomato, jalapeño, habanero, pumpkin (giant ones for fun)> fruits: melon, raspberry, mulberry (that was just natural desu), and mcintosh appleThe apple tree probably won’t produce this year but we’ve got it goingPic is one of many tomato hauls from last year
>>22069503yeah but this year I'm just doing pink brandywine tomatoes.
I just repotted my itty bitty baby lovage a few minutes ago. : )My wife plans to repot her cucumbers and zucchini this Saturday.
>>22070042>i want to do pumpkins this yearDear me, no. They will take over your garden. I made that mistake one year. We had to start eating the vines. Same with watermelon. What can one family do with so many gigantic fruits? We started eating the vines there, too
>>22070634pumpkins AND bonus vines? i'm sold.
>>22069932Nice bulb
>>22070532I think anything in the allium family is basically just a tasty weed. My onions started out as an extra stalk that I bought in a grocery. I stuck it in some dirt 8 years ago and now I have a small patch that I could never dream of using up. I know my garlic actually need a winter freeze as part of their lifecycle, so I presume the onions are similar in that regard. In any case, it's great not needing to buy a bunch only to have half go to waste.
>>22070432>>22070535know what ima do sea slug on 2004 today
>>22070988Interesting. I always though actual onions required a little bit of work. Maybe that's just youtube gardeners making badass ones though. Green onions are damn close to 100% hands-off.
>>22071133Don't forget to bring extra essence
>>22071143You thought wrong. You can even physically abuse them and they'll still grow perfectly fine. Look into growing calçots as an example of what I'm taking about
>>22070554Nice.>>22070634Just gotta regulate them better. You can guide the vines in a direction you want, also snip new growth.
>>22070558Ok
>>22071261>Just gotta regulate them betterPretty sure that's not what anon was getting at. They grow. A lot. They need to be cut to contain growth. A lot. Otherwise, there will be vines everywhere. A lot. Guiding doesn't stop how fast they grow. It's not as insane as sweet potato vines. Those cunts can grow 10cm in a single afternoon. But it's pretty fast. You lose track for a weekend and you've got close to a foot of vines per shoot.
>>22071275Oh I know, I have a patch for pumpkins. They're wily bastards. But they can be conquered.
>>22069503Not anymore. I used to keep peppers in a small garden plot in my back yard but I've gotten more busy and less motivated.
>>22070555>>22070558fyi use it on a dry day and wear a respirator. You do NOT want to breath this stuff in.
>>22071329Yep, can confirm. Used Diato to deter those green japanese beetles from my roses.
>>22071143The only work my green onions require is annual cleanup and thinning every couple of years. And of course topping the bloom stems so they don't focus too much growth on seeds.
>>22071275Yeah. We were harvesting vines and flowers.>>22070630The lovage is doing nicely, btw. Wanted to plant borage this year but missus already had the garden entirely planned except for one planter do I said "y'know what? Lovage."I've not had borage or woodruff in ages. : /
>>22069503No, because my region sucks for growing shit I like to eat. I tried, everything either died, bolted immediately, or got eaten by pests. Even the excess green onions I shoved in the ground didn't live. But fuck me the weeds and vines love this area something fierce. No fucking way am I doing some hydroponics/greenhouse shit. Way too much fucking work, money, and time lost doing that crap. Fuck becoming a full time farmer.
>>22071870What region? If you're in the US, there's not a lot of places that are bad for gardening. Might be able to fix things with some small corrections.
>>22069912Beer traps are saving my marigolds.
>>22071870Just so you don’t feel like you’re missing out, gardening is also hella time, work, and money
>>22069503Sweet potatoes, peanuts, silverbeet/chard, chilli, peppermint, rosella, bananasplants that generally look after themselves, no weeding or snail-baiting required
