schweinshaxe
Schnitzel
>>22070105>I believe I will be visiting germany some time this summer, or perhaps early autumnNo you're not. There is already a German food thread, check the catalogue before making these threads. You just waste peoples time.
>>22070105Between sausage, pretzels and kebab, the kebab is the best thing germany has to offer.
>>22070143>No you're not.I am?>There is already a German food threadI did not think this board had generals for each culture of food, but now that I check there is a thread about hating german foodI don't think there would be as much visiblity there>You just waste peoples time.I want to hear their thoughtsIf they don't care to give them, they may continue their day
>>22070110This sounds nice
>>22070105Munich is a very cosmopolitan city, there are many choices of cuisine.Literally just use google. The traditional pretzels and sausage you can get almost anywhere.Try some traditional Bavarian breweries.
>>22070105Germany is a bad place to go if you want good Germanic food. Go to either Strasbourg or Vienna instead.
>>22070105I was there once and had one of this outside a train station from a dude that was carrying the grill on himself. Still the best sausage I've ever had. Apparently its name is "Rostbratwurst thüringer Art".
>>22070105The basics>rouladen>greasy home cooked street food (sausages, friends, salads, burgers)>schnitzel>potato salad>spaetzel>herring>cucumber salad>apfel strudel
>>22070105Rouladen with knoedel and rotkohl (red cabbage)
>>22070105Don't forget to try the sour fermented fish on bread dish that g*rmans pretend is food.
>>22070110beat me to it
Schweinsohr
Bavaria Blu
I'd look for a place that offers Mett, fun story to bring back to the US. Germany isn't a huge hub for it's own food in my experience, the niceties are more the amount of bakeries in your day to day life and also the beer culture
Related question cause I will be visiting Germany, any particularly good beers to look out for? I've had all the imports here in the US and as far as i understand that's normal stuff.
>>22070350Idiot. Beer is regional. So it depends in the region you visit.
>>22070105BREADvisit bakeries.
>>22070526Any advice for finding the good bakeries?
>>22070105Hitlerbraten
>>22070234>Rostbratwurst thüringer ArtBasically a bratwurst with a lot of caraway though. Imo Nürnberger Rostbratwurst is the best type of bratwurst.
Lidl Schokocrosong
May I suggest the humble Döner Kebab
>>22071020>chicken>no cabbage
>>22070110Came here to say this. With Knödeln & Sauerkraut
>>22070105Ok from a german let me give you some tips- Leberkas in bread with sweet mustard- Braunkohl and Bregenwurst (regional to Lower Saxony)- Schweinshaxe with Mashed Potatoes and Sourkraut- Currywurst with Pommes- Fischbrötchen - Berlin style Doner Kebab (yeah I know)That's literally all I can think ofNot all of Germany is like Bavaria and most parts of Germany have very little ethnic food and most restaurants are immigrant run and serve either Asian, Greek or Turkish FoodMost german food is pretty bland in my opinionEspecially in my part of germany a lot of the recipes I grew up with are still inspired by post war shortages (lentil soup, Arme Ritter, Milchnudeln and things like that) Bascially poverty tier food but I like it since it's nostalgic for meOnly southern Germany acutally has good cuisine in my opinion
>>22071941Your opinion just sucks.GulaschLinsensuppe KartoffelsuppeFresh bread, even from supermarkets like Globus are fantastic.Leberwurst with regular mustard (mittelscharf) and fresh bread.Etc.
>>22070105I honestly advise you to try Mettbrötchen or Mett in general. Many people don't like it even in Germany but I think it's great with thin sliced onions onto. Should be available pretty much everywhere but a local butcher shop (Metzgerei) has it for sure.
This is the peak
Reading the posts here, I'm inclined to believe that all the Insta, TikTok, and FB videos about Europoors carrying on about American culture and food are actually organic.
>>22072351That does actually look like the type of thing I would enjoy, what's it's name?
I have always wanted to try maultaschen, lieberkase and saurbraten. I highly recommend kartoffel knoedel, I've had that and it's very addictive with gravy.
>>22072359Cow rolls (rinder-roullade)
Weisswurscht with brezel and sweet mustard if you are in Bavaria. Jägerschnitzel with Jägersauce and potatoes. Currywurscht if you are at a Raststätte/ Imbiss.Try Sauerkraut in general.
>>22072351We have this with pork in my country as well, I can confirm it is peak
for me it's the humble Pfefferbeißer
>>22070105you need to try a ture german classic: the Currywurst. you won't be disappointed
>>22070105The Gasthaus Kreuzeder in Erding where I live (ca 35km east of Munich) is pretty famous locally for their classical Bavarian dishes made from premium quality ox meat. You can also book a guided tour with beer tasting through the Erdinger Weißbräu brewery. Other well-known restaurants with typical Bavarian cuisine in Erding are the Gasthof zur Post and the Empl-Keller.
>>22070350I live in Erding, hometown of the Erdinger Weißbier, and pretty much everybody here drinks Augustiner Helles. Try the Augustiner Edelstoff too, it is an extra strong export version of their beer.
>>22072606Landjäger mogs no diff
>>22070342Those don't look like the ones our office dog gets
>>22072623Weißbier is for faggots e vernünftig Pils mussma drinke
For me it's the döner kebab
>>22070105If you only want to stay near Munich then your selection is of course limited. I'm from the Rhineland and I love Mett and smoked Mett sausages but I was quite disappointed by the ones I bought in the south. Their hard smoked sausages however were really nice so I would suggest to just go to a butcher and buy an assorted spread. And try calf liver in a restaurant if you find it - those are also usually good. >pic relKottenbutter: a "speciality" of my region, which is just a smoked Mett sausage on black/rye bread with sharp mustard and onions. But by God, I have never tasted Mett as good as in my home region.>>22070350Where? Imo most "easy" beers are Helle, which are quite mild.
Whoops, forgot the pic
>>22070350Usually the north prefers bitter and dry beers while the south prefers mild and malty ones.
>>22072673>>22070350A challenger appears
>>22072685Kinda niche. Also more associated with Frogs or Bongs.
>>22070321All of these are better done outside Germany>>22070105You haven't gotten any good answers yet. Here's the deal.-Southern Germany is hit or miss. The reason is simple: most of the mountain slopes get very little sunshine because they face north. If they face south they're usually in the shadow of higher mountains down south. No sunshine = no biodiversity = no quality.-The big cities are the same as everywhere else. They cater to Karen in HR who needs to lose weight, students who want the latest fad and career professionals who need to eat fast. But you do get these family restaurants with loyal clients who couldn't care less about Tripadvisor & co. You'll have to ask people in the streets for these, but don't ask women, they avoid conflict and tell you where the best tourist places are. Ask elderly gentlemen who dress well - they don't give a fuck whether you like their answer or not. The only downside is the restaurants may be pricey - but you'll eat very well.-German seafood and sea fish is mediocre, not worth spending time on. Their trout is phenomenal though-East Germany still hasn't recovered from communism. I don't know why. There's no good food there and the mentality is terrible.-You eat exceptionally well in West Germany, wherever there are rivers, and there are a lot of them. Especially when there are vineyards as well.-German beer is dull and predictable - but I'm Belgian, I may be biased. German wine is phenomenal, ridiculously underrated and underpriced (with a few pricy exceptions).-Germany has a lot of underrated and understated tourist areas: they don't "instagram" well. The Black Forest, Eifel, Hochsauerland, Ludenscheid areas for instance. You find modest, honest, generous, hyper-local cuisines there that are world class.
I'm a German from the Czech border and I can tell you everything Germany does is better a little bit to the east.
>>22070105>Food that I should try to find while in germany>Preferably near munich but anywhere is fineDampfnudelpic relatedit's very hard to find in restaurants, typically only made by your grandmagenerally all "pastries">Mehlspeisenlike full meals made out of some kind of dough with milk and egg, usually sweetjust a few besides Dampfnudeln>Kirschmichel>Kaiserschmarrn>Apfelküchle>Schupfnudeln (these ones are easier to get and often hearty)>Topfenknödel>Krapfen>Ofenschlupfer>Schmalznudeln>Zwetschgendatschi>Millirahmstrudelall awesome
