I hunt but I don't treat the animals like that. A quick dispatch and field dress. If the first shot doesn't kill I always do my best to make follow up shots as quickly as possible to end the suffering.

I use .22lr for smaller stuff too, I've never used or known anything about modern high velocity rounds. I saw an asshole shooting pigs with a .223 and he had to use multiple shots every time.
