This is the thread for discussing teas, tisanes, and other herbal infusions.

Info on types of teas, where to buy, and how to brew: https://rentry.org/tea-pastebin

first for jasmine
>>
It's so fucking hot I can't do anything including drinking good teas.
Anyone tried the "cheap" cakes from essence of teas?
Wuliang/Kunlu?
>>
>>22086158
drink some cold brewed yerba mate with me instead, anon
it's cheap and it cold brews much better than most tea. that's how they drink it most of the time in Paraguay
>>
Can't believe I waited so long to cold brew mate, been sippin loads the past couple days
>>
>>22086537
Gotta be honest not a fan of yerba mate.
I've got 50g free sample(dont remember why) and wasn't impressed.
It's sort of nice smelling water I guess.
>>
>>22086606
Could have been shit mate or very underbrewed. Traditionally made mate is strong in flavor and quite bitter, also often smoked
>>
>>22086591
Which one do you like for cold brewing?
I also haven't done it in a while. I used to do it with Cruz de Malta with some fresh mint added. But now this anise flavored Paraguayan one I got is the bomb for cold brewing.
>>
>>22086668
Pajarito and cruz de malta. Actually these are the only mate I tried generally, they seem to do it for me with my old man xiaguan palate.
The fresh mint was a good shout, tasty.
>>
Con palo, or sin palo?
>>
>>22086690
yeah Pajarito or anything Paraguayan is the Xiaguan equivalent of mate. smoky, darker flavors and finely chopped with lots of dust

I want to explore some more herbal mate blends right now. in the past I really liked Colon Completo which has a lot of chamomile in it. now I'm getting a Cachamate blend which has chamomile, mint, coriander and a bunch of other shit. and I'm getting Liebig because I remember it being good, had a lot of those more mellow sweetish grainy flavors
>>
>>22086719
I usually get con palo, but I don't really have a preference. it's just a little cheaper and I think the sticks might be adding a bit of sweetness?
>>
>>22086723
I remember reading that the sticks make it easier to drink, since the chopped leaves don't clump together as tightly, and don't clog the bombilla as much.
>>
>>22086732
yeah that's also the idea I think
>>
>>22086690
some brands I've had a lot of:
>Pajarito
prototypical dark Paraguayan flavor. cheap and good
>Colon
same but stronger smoke
>Fede Rico
cheapest organic yerba mate over here for some reason. it's good, maybe less smoky than most Paraguayans and more balanced
>Indega seleccion especial
this one gets a shout out for being very earthy
>Rosamonte
on the slightly darker smokier side of Argentina. the pack I opened now also smells exactly like chocolate wafers, it's uncanny
>Cruz de Malta
grassier and milder. not really my favorite anymore but it's very easy to drink
>Del Cebador
intensely grassy and refreshing Uruguayan cut
>>
>>22086721
The blending is interesting, it seems quite amenable to going with herbs. I'll give chamomile a try

>>22086762
Thanks for the recs, I'll have to try that Indega next
Does the grassy style like the Del Cebador cold brew well?
>>
>>22086805
>The blending is interesting, it seems quite amenable to going with herbs
Yeah, it's really popular to blend it with herbs and there are a lot of pre-blended choices too. A lot of them have herbs that no one outside south america even knows like boldo, burrito or katuava
>>
>>22086805
>Does the grassy style like the Del Cebador cold brew well?
Yeah I think they all cold brew well, it's just down to personal preference which style you like more when cold brewed
>>
I don't remember this much yerbposting last summer. Are the prices down again or something?

You yerba mate niggers need your own thread. Thread image makes it look like a fuckin cocktail thread. Also we camellia sinensis chads don't give a shit about your sewer brews.
>>
>>22078395
You can easily brew zavarka without a samovar, and it's often my preferred way to drink assams, ceylons, that sort of thing.
>>
>>22087263
Big heat wave in Europe
Prices for yerba are still cheap as always I think. You can buy 1kg of Pajarito over here for like 5 or 6$, I'm sure it's even much less in south America
>>
>>22087263
Has it ever had a high price?
>>
>be me
>naive idiot
>make a white2tea order 10 days ago hoping not to incur in the new EU 3EUR import tax
>my order is still "being processed in the country of origin"
I'm going to end up paying 50% of the cost of my tea in taxes, duties, handling and processing fees, I feel it
>>22086158
fyi drinking hot beverages makes you sweat and eventually dissipate more heat than you would have by drinking the same amount of cold stuff
>>22087263
in the last ten years it tripled in price as it went to something unknown outside of south america to something trendy that actors and football players would drink
>>
>>22087572
>in the last ten years it tripled in price
Maybe in the US, in EU it seems to cost the same as ever

Do I like this?
>>
Oh shit vietsun has new releases and tua chua is back, might get it, but not sure if anything else there is worth, I already have plenty of black tea from them.
>>
>>22088025
I got a free cake from them in a raffle lol
>>
>>22087824
It's alright, I drink it now and then since it's not super sweet
It doesn't really taste much like tea though
