Yeah, it's really popular to blend it with herbs and there are a lot of pre-blended choices too. A lot of them have herbs that no one outside south america even knows like boldo, burrito or katuava

Well mate, couple months ago I bought a mate set which included a 100g mate package, a calebasse and the doorstopper type of straw. I did buy an additional set with this order (cheap ceramic mug and bombilla) to possibly gift to a friend.
I think the preparation is pretty fun, you can just go "there you go, mate" with your tea and the water and it'll turn out alright. Hot water, cold water, herbal additions, it feels pretty versatile and easy.

The actual mate supplied with the starter set is "Elaborada con palo" from Veraparis. I see that it's shilled all over instagram, so it's probably shit, mate. Also not so sure about it's age, it might have sat in that gift box for 15 years for all I know.
Looking forward to trying the good stuff. I'm ready for the Colon mate.

Drinking 2003 purple dayi 7542 from quiche. Very tasty stuff, none of the harshness of younger 7542, but no storage funk either, just a smooth bit of dry wood and old books with that plummy sweetness and a bit of straw. Very well rounded and balanced, the kind of tea you just don't want to stop drinking.

I tried the Swerve and it was a let down seeing the cost, it's no better than the cheapest half decent phoenix oolong you can buy anywhere, it doesn't have any stone fruit aroma to speak of, it's not particularly flowery or strong or spicy or what have you, and it doesn't have much of the typical black tea maltyness.
It's somewhat interesting because of the unusual combo of large leaf tea and yancha style roasting, but the raw material doesn't feel high quality.
I'm drinking Baby Cobra and this I'm happier about: it has a very unusual mix of buttery aroma like a light oolong, hay aroma, slight bitterness and slight astringency like a shou mei, and fresh grassy taste like a sencha without the sapidity or strong astringency.
An easy going young sheng without rough edges, I don't think it's nearly as strong as the descriptions makes it sound like.

Have some sheng that I’m only feeling once and a blue moon, so I used it to make Afghan pink tea for the first time and it worked perfectly. Time consuming but really tasty with butter and honey mixed into it instead of a mountain of sugar.

It's the "aged tea in jars (35 years) 150g/$1000ntd". It's good, not very complex or the best aged oolong I've had, but a very enjoyable, just comfy tea that I can't stop wanting more of once I start drinking it. I usually have it at work since it's not too expensive or attention demanding, but is moreish. This is actually the 5th 150g bag of it I've bought, I finished 2 of them, started on the third, and bought more just to stock up since I was making an order for the tungting.

I paid 605ntd or $18.88 for the 450g.
Their prices in general are pretty good, the heavy roast legend of tungting is the one that gets the most recommendations here. It's a quality tea for a good price, heavily roasted Taiwanese oolong like that is also not super common.
Their shanlixi I thought was pretty good too, the jinxuan and gaba oolongs I thought were comparable to other vendors versions of those teas for a better price, but they're not my cup of tea.
I really do recommend the aged oolong too if you haven't had one before, it's really approachable and easy to drink imo. I think even non weirdo tea drinkers could enjoy it.

If you think at it from a scientific perspective, the terpenes are a response to natural stressors and various environmental conditions. Intense heat and cold, bug bites, whatever. Old wild trees that have to endure potentially hundreds of years of bullshit without much human intervention or culling will develop more of those terpenes. I've been drinking copious amounts of terere recently. Anis flavored Fede Rico and Liebig are my favorites as terere recently.
I thought this Cachamate blend with chamomile would be as good as the Colon with chamomile, but I was wrong. I guess it's not the chamomile that I liked so much in the Colon, I think it's the weird purple Gomphrena flower that isn't common in mate blends at all. Adds a great sweet contrast.

I have been drinking the Dayi Dragon Pillar 2023 and I find it hard to go back to drinking lower grade ripes.
Like even good aged ripe ones aren’t as good simply because of the refined smooth taste the dragon pillar has.

Moving on with my white2tea order, this is the 2026 Halo.
A surprisingly rich stone fruit smell for such a young tea, a fairly thick texture, a grassy, somewhat fruity, sweet and mineral taste, and a slightly bitter but not dry or noticeably astringent finish.
If I didn't know its age I would give it at least 5 years, I've never found such a mix of mature fruit and bitter finish, and seeing it's full of broken leaves makes me wonder what it would be like if it were made with better quality raw material.
It's the one I've been liking best so far, give it a try if you get the chance.

for ripe, I've gotten a little bored of unaged ripe, so I mostly drink stuff like Best Taste from Yeeon or liu bao now
raw is more interesting and I like to pay attention to the mouthfeel / texture. some raws also give me good feels

Vegetal, buttery, leathery, some specific bitterness like tannic plum skins. Quite thick mouthfeel.
It's not bad and interesting because it's different from yunnan raws. I tend to prefer less vegetal young raws though

I've decided to try rooibos for the first time. I can't drink any tea made with the tea plant due to a religious observance and I was getting tired of hot chocolate. I tried chamomile, and I was enjoying that quite a bit especially because if I had a double tea bag and let it steep for ages after I drank it it was almost like a quarter valium.
Decided to try rooibos because I found some in the pantry. The aroma brings to mind thoughts of the African plains, giraffes running, lions roaring and the like. Taking your beautiful wife and family on a safari vacation, da da da da da... Twinings.

Do any of you anons find cool teaware/pottery/stoneware when out at thrift stores or garage sales, etc? I neglected to take pictures, but I was surprised to find not just one, but two gaiwans (with plates) at a thrift store not far from me. They were very cheap (one was less than a dollar, the other $2 or less), but a bit large for me and not to my taste aesthetically, so I left them. Some other nice stoneware and so on. Porcelain and crystal are easy to come across too, it seems.

I saw some stuff with a similar painted style and color (without the "rice grain" thing the other anon mentioned). Though most of them were wider, slightly larger bowl-ish shapes. The kind of stuff you can come across really is astounding sometimes. There was this beautiful Japanese stoneware jar thing with a fine dark brown glaze for not even a dollar, but the lid was missing around somewhere, so I had to pass.

2008 Dayi 801 Chun Shui from Quiche
Nice tea taste, full bodied, it has some of the honeyed quality that reminds me of aged whites. No particular storage notes
No astringency, low bitter but you can get some nice bitterness and mouthfeel if you push it.
For 12c/g a good daily drinker and a nice way to mix things up compared to the other cakes I had from quiche and dayi.

Anyway, it's nice as always. There is a good bit of astringency, but one that creates a fun mineralic texture. And the flavor itself is all wood, char, a bit of smoke. Very nice.

I depends what exact drupe fruit you have in mind.
In my experience peaches are the most common(csh naka is popular, ta cu ty which is very similar to the naka, haiwan mahei, bunch of mengoku roshi cakes...)
Cherries are quite rare(I can think of maybe one or two cakes)
Plums as well. Sometimes I've tasted something that i would describe as almost fermenting stone fruit(wild plums), but again quite rare maybe two locations.
These were all young raws, you just have to look for them which is pain in the butt, since there is almost no info and descriptions are useless.
