Alright gamers last christmas my health was pure garbage, was vaping, chugging energy drinks, eating literal garbage "food", drinking heavily every weekend and was 300 lbs and miserable. Decided to start my new years resolution early and started a fast on the 26th. No food just water, salt, potassium and magnesium. Around 2g of salt, 1g of potassium and 500mg of magnesium a day. Quit nicotine, caffine, alchohol and weed all cold turkey the same day. By some miracle I made it 42 days, and tapered off the fast with 30 days of 2 pints of homemade chicken stock a day so 72 days without eating technically. Went from 300lbs to 216 and managed to be free from all these poisons. First week i was lucky to get 2 hours a sleep a night, was so depressed I cried at random multiple times a day that gave way to anhedonia but after 2 weeks I was sleeping and feeling better. Even now a few months later im bouncing between 210 and 220 so I didn't have an awful rebound though my eating habits while not great are significantly better than they where. Though life seems duller than it used to and partaking in any of these aformentioned substances seems to trigger immediete subconcious guilt.Sugar and caffine seem to be the #1 and #2 things like about 95% of people are horribly addicted to. Sugar being the cause of rampant obesity, and sugar and caffine being what causes people to be in a constant state of highs and lows as they crash from sugar highs when they blood sugar crashes causing them to be lethargic and hungry again a hour or so after eating junk, and caffine crashes combined with poor sleep caused by said caffine creating a feedback loop where caffine needs to be ingested every 4-6 hours and constant snacking throughout the day.Next would be nicotine, alchohol, and weed either by themselves or in combination, probably 80% of people being addicted to 1 or a combination of these. These all completely wrecking your reward system.Cont.
>>22085161Life on these just becomes waiting for your next hit. People who drink usually just drink on the weekends, and are basically not human on monday while they withdrawl, tuesday and wednesday they recover and the only day they are sentient is thursday waiting for tommorow. Weed is usually something people addicted to it do every day in the afternoon unless rhey are completely fucked and need it to function, but either way without it you dont even feel human. Nicotine havong such a short half life means your entire world collapses if you dont have constant access to it while you are constantly in a state of vasocontriction ruining your health not to mention your gums or lungs. The withdrawal from nicorine being far worse than that from even hard drugs like opioids, i still think about nicotine a few times a week being half a year removed from it, havent thought about oxy or percs for over 5 years. With all this BS said I find myself still in some state of low level depression removed from all these and eating a healthy low carb diet staying away from processed food and fruits.I wonder if I have completely wrecked my brain and require outside substsnces to feel "normal", or if the withdrawal process takes years getting off all these things mentiones to get back to normal. Or possibly modern life is just fucked up and substance abuse is required to deal with modern life. So far im staying away from it all, but I fear if things do not improve it will come crashing back down.So /ck/ what do we think about all this? Modern diets consisting of food pumped full of sugar, artificial sweetners that mimic the same response real sugar does and makes you hungry (personal expierence and studies on diet soda seem to confirm that). And the majority of the populstion being depedent on some kind of drug or presceiption like amphetamines to function throughout the day? I want to be free, bit I dont think its realitically possible.
>>22085161>Sugar being the cause of rampant obesity,It's a little more complicated than that. It's diets high in ultraprocessed food which means a lot of calories but little actual nutrition otherwise which also includes refined starches and oils.
>>22085181Ultraprocessed food is full of sugar though, they try to hide it under other names like matodextrin etc. Or use loopholes to not list the sugarlike substances at all, these are what make you constantly hungry. Though I agree the lack of proper nutrition in these foods causing deficiencies your body seeks out. But the actual hunger response I think is mostly caused by sugar and sugar substitutes even the 0 calorie kind. If you are in ketosis and have fat to burn you dont feel hungry even with absolutely no nutrition, i didnt feel any hunger at all after day 5 of my fast. I also did not break my fast due to hunger or health issues, but rather convincing myself I had done enough thinking nostalgic about how food used to make me feel.Starting another fast now, would like to get to 180lbs hoping it might lift my depression without turning to my old vices. Pretty convinced if I can just thug it out to day 5 ill not be hungry anymore.
>>22085201Should also note that loopholes also exist for food companies to not even count carbs from things like maltodextrin or list it at all in the ingredients. There was a giant scandal with LMNT electrolyte powders essentially hiding maltodextrin and carbs in their electrolyte drink mixes, which people doing fasting or time resteicted eating where hyping up and they where unknowlingly spiking their blood sugar with it, which makes those things extremely hars to do as this causes a hunger response, same with people drinking diet soda on their fasts making it harder than it needs to be.
>>22085176>The withdrawal from nicorine being far worse than that from even hard drugs like opioidsPeople die from opioid withdrawal lol. Nobody dies from nicotine withdrawal. It's not that bad. The thing that makes it hard is just how easy it is to get. Anyway it sounds like you might just need a hobby or something to actually do instead of filling that void with substances. >staying away from processed food and fruits. Why would you need to stay away from fruit? Fruit didn't cause any of your problems. Low carb diets are known to make some people feel fatigued and dehydrated. Your brain and muscles like carbs. Just get them from healthy sources. If you think things suck then the answer isn't substance abuse. Try volunteering for something, or getting a hobby. Even then the real issue with substances is the endless availability and how easy it is to just have more and more as your tolerance increases instead of only having a little bit once in a while. >>22085201It's also often full of refined starch and oil, and people who go on low fat high carb diets still end up losing weight. It might not work for everyone because not everyone can digest carbs properly though. And then you have examples like groups of modern hunter-gatherers who like eating a lot of honey and fruit yet they remain healthy because they aren't consuming tons of white flour and cheap oil. Physical activity can also help if you're not doing much of that. You don't even have to do a full gym routine or heavy exercise but just going for a walk can noticeably improve things too.
>>22085212Ya my job is semi physical, thats why I was losing a pound a day on the fast, ive done some shorter 1 week or so fasts while i was sedentary and noticed i only lost about half a pound a day. Should be more active though im just too tired after work, and I know how little calories an hour at the game actually burns, which is less than just not eating a slice of pizza sadly. Weight is lost on the kitchen not the gym etc.I dont think fruit is healthy because even though its natural sugar bound in some fiber its still a massive amount of sugar that is going to spike your insulin etc make you hungry. Im not like carnivore or anything I love veggies but if start eating things like apples or a bunch of berries bananas etc. Im going to be hungry as hell an hour later vs eating say carrots or other high sugar veggies which still dont hold a candle to fruit. I also could sit down and eat a basket of peaches and not feel full, hard to regulate. Im not claiming fruit is poison, just more its difficult for a lot of people to understand them as treats to be eaten sparingly and not eating wholesale because they are "healthy" while they dont realize they just downed nearly 100g of sugar in 1 day from fruit alone which is also making them even more hungry.
>>22085245But again, fruit didn't cause any of your issues yet you're blaming it anyway. Sugar in ultraprocessed food is bad but the issue goes far beyond the sugar itself. You'd find it pretty difficult to gain weight just eating fruit. Everyone who does a fruitarian diet ends up underweight. You might eat a basket of peaches and get 100g of sugar but that's only about 400 calories. Now compare that to oil where just a few tablespoons has almost the same amount of calories. Refined sugar + refined starch + refined oil is the real problem. But people eating fruit and nuts and plain baked potatoes aren't gaining tons of weight because those things are still more nutritious and satiating.
>>22085161>>22085176following what this guy did really helped me imo, he kinda hit the nail on the head with the whole guilt thinghttps://youtu.be/ZJjMSCsxaZ8
>>22085161i'm not reading all of that but my favorite legal addictive substance is diethyl ether, though it's technically illegal if you huff it, but you can buy some no problem. it's just really funny, on a conceptual level. huffing it has literally zero adverse health effects besides being super stinky and incredibly flammable and gives you a really short high.i strongly recommend everyone to watch this short documentary about a small Romanian village that was once severely addicted to ether. it's genuinely hilarious.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqzWIzJziUM
>>22085201Why do people bitch about being addicted to these things instead of just not doing it. Like just don't fucking buy a box of fucking oreos, don't be like "Big Food making me addicted to the Sugar" like bitch Coca Cola isn't Cocaine.
>>22085304>huffing it has literally zero adverse health effectsAddicts say the same thing about smoking tobacco or weed or a lot of other drugs if it's what they prefer and are addicted to. It's just insecure projection trying to convince others they don't experience anything negative. Almost as bad as the stoners trying to convince other people that smoking weed will cure all diseases and bring about world peace.
>>22085325i've never had it myself but as far as I can tell it's basically in the same boat as weed. yes, definitely, it will fuck you over in the long run, there was an ether 'epidemic' in Ireland back in the day and entire villages were basically just constantly high. which was a problem since ether's incredibly flammable and has a tendency to stick to walls. as I said, I just think it's really funny on a conceptual level. if you check out the documentary it's hilarious how the villagers genuinely didn't understand how everyone being addicted to ether was a problem and how they're all immensely nostalgic about the good old days back when it was legal.another fun fact is that some advocates for prohibition (alcohol) considered ether to be a "healthy" alternative to alcohol since the high doesn't last long and they thought that you were perfectly capable of being productive while being high on ether. which is why it was so prevalent in Ireland for a while.
>>22085346Damn, I want to try some. I remember Michael Caine accidentally died by overdosing on it in The Cider House Rules. It was his drug of choice.
>>22085161>Legal addictive substanceslike tylenol?
>>22085304>huffing it has literally zero adverse health effectsNigga it kills brain cells.
>>22085473You're thinking of most other inhalants (e.g gasoline, paint thinner, nitrous), which get you high because they're toxic. Ether isn't toxic per se, not in small doses at least. >Studies, including that of an ether addict in 2003, have shown that ether causes addiction; however, the only symptom observed was a will to consume more ether. No withdrawal symptoms were prevalent. (https://sci-hub.fr/10.1046/j.1360-0443.2003.00439.x)>The acute and chronic toxicities of ethyl ether are low (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00026209.htm)You're more likely to get brain damage via blunt force trauma or hypoxia while on ether than because of the ether itself.
>>22085161seems like you got what not to get addicted to coverednow its time to get addicted to healthy things like good relationships exercise going out hunting fishing farming ect
>>22085176Get one of these and use it daily in the mornings, adding ten minutes per day until you reach two hours per day, then start using it for an hour before bed. Do it for a few months or indefinitely if you like.https://www.sota.com/default.aspx?page=Bio-Tuner

>>22085176Loser.How did you even get 300lbs? No one should be taking your advice
>>22085161>Went from 300lbs to 216if your post is true wow, that's amazing. keep up the good work
>>22085161>a month and a half on nothing but water and a pinch of saltlol okay. Even coma patients get more than that.
>>22086107Stupidest person of the day award
Kinda crazy 42 day dry fast you pulled out there and continued with only stock for one more month... 2g salt seems a bit low too
>>22086107Do you think fat is just there to make you look like shit and not serve any purpose? 1lb of fat has like 150% the daily energy expenditure most adult males need, on top of fat soluable vitamins. You just need water soluable minerals and vitamins (C and B) you can survive just fine for however long your fat stores exist, theres records of people fasting for over a year. It only becomes dangerous as you approach 10% bodyfat as below that you risk the body tearing into muscle and organs instead of just fat.
