Fast Food has always had an identity aspect to it that is greatly tied to social class. The Middle Class has seen stronger downsizing and wage stagnation than the Working Class in the past decade, so the identity points of the working class have gone up comparatively. Middle Class cuisine has mostly stagnated in price. You go to a Thai-Fusion Restaurant or order a Craft Hazy IPA the prices have gone up relatively little since 2012 or so. Especially when compared to McDonalds or Bud Light.
