I don't understand why anyone would eat something like that.

I've seen a few places here in NYC try to succeed with this sort of cuisine and they usually fizzle out within a year or so. It's slightly interesting as a novelty, but there just isn't enough to make it worthwhile for standalone locations. Macaroni salad? White rice? Teriyaki chicken? Big deal.
>>
It's good Drunk Food, the problem is that it wants to be good fast casual.
>>22095587
It'd work for a Tiki Bar, the problem is that all the places I've seen want to be Fast Casual places and when in competition with dollar(fifty) slice places, established fast food and Halal Carts it's just an also-ran.
But serving a Hawaiian Plate like the English/Irish Pubs serve English Breakfasts would probably do any Tiki Bar with a kitchen very well.

Kind of carb heavy but at least they’re still relatively cheap compared to Indian or Jamaican food.

>carb heavy
Good thing I'm not fat so I don't have to ever worry about something so meaningless.

Sometimes I pour Kinder's dry seasoning in my mouth just to have some flavor.

Looks a lot like Seattle teriyaki, except panko-breaded pork instead of grilled chicken. That stuff was awesome.

>>22095488
Seattle teriyaki is awesome, Anon.

I went to hawaiian bros once 5 or so years ago with my friend because he insisted I just HAD to try it.
My thought was, "Wow, I just paid $14 for chicken and rice."

Loco Moco plates are alright with a side of saimin, but it's novelty wears off when you learn to cook it at home

perfect

Hawaiian food is just asian food if it was as unhealthy as possible. no wonder they are all fat fucks

They're alright. I like to get the garlic chicken, but only if its deep fried garlic chicken. L&L does stir fryied sr pan seared or whatever amd it's not as good. I used to have very negative sentiments abiut hawaiian slop plates but it grows on you. I dont eat it very often though bc its not good for you to have so much carbs, unless you were a plantstion worker burning hella calories back when these plates were first coming out

For me, it's the Misubi.

Fucking slop. Lots of islanders in the PNW, and there was a Hawaiian place near my house. Godawful slop. That said, the earlier anons right, PNW teriyaki is amazing. Shout to Du's in Portland.

I normally opt for an extra side of the meat so that the macros balance out a little better but even so it's definitely a large meal so it's generally the only thing I'll eat the whole day besides a protein bar, my daily banana, and a protein shake post-workout

that being said I also find it way harder to find quality carb sources to inject into my diet compared to fat and despite Hawaiian food generally using only white rice, bleached pasta, and sugary sauces... I guess technically it could be worse..

I think most slop platters benefit from some kind of featured greenery accoutrement. like I'd enjoy a bahn mi a lot less if it didn't have cilantro and pickled carrots balancing it out.

for me, it's your mom
